Kind of put history in perspective tonite, I hope some of our French allies were watching.
-
care to expand a bit ?
never heard of this person.

wow !
it's a true bellybutton hole
quotes from :

The French are simply not reliable partners in a world where the good people in it ought to be working together. Americans may come off as international jerks sometimes but we're usually trying to do the right thing
Ask the spanish citizen under Franco's rule or peruvian under Pinochet or Argentinian under Junta ...
The French lost WW II to the Germans in about 20 minutes.
he's so smart ..
I heard Steven Spielberg say the French wouldn't even let him film the D-Day scenes in “Saving Private Ryan” on the Normandy beaches.
1st hand information ... he "heard" of ....
it was :
1st a question of cost (it's pretty expensive to work in France)
2nd it's an historical place so you can't do whatever you want there is some very precise(and costly) rules to follow.
Americans have a right to protest going to war with Iraq. The French do not. They owe us the independence they flaunt in our face at the U.N.
Same payback arguement ... very smart ...

Once again our French authority Staffo responds in the typical French way, in denial. Hey Staffo when 60 minutes runs the piece America watchs, and believes. You arguments (and your governments explainations) do not wash with the US.
And what you do not understand is that in America when guys like Andy Rooney begin to point out how ungrateful the French are, things are changing. This has never happened before.
America is waking up to the fact the French are not friends. Eventually this attitude will filter down to things like tourism and trade. It is only beginning.

Ho... what a surprise it just a question of faith ?
Remind me of 1984.
IMO if you trust a TV show you're doomed...

You do not know what 60 minutes is. You do not know much about America either I can tell.

I don't want to believe that the American are using only one source of information (is it the local version of the Pravda ?)
And yes I'm pretty ignorant about America I'm not American you know ...

Some morning show reported today that a US restaurant no longer serves french fries. They now serve freedom fries. :D

I see so you think CBS is just like Pravda? And a WW2 vet like Rooney is a liar. Interesting.
You are almost as well informed as a third world arab dictatorship. And you opinions have about as much credibility.
-
@Iron :rotfl :)
@habu : don't waste your time with me and I won't waste mine.
If you think that being a Vet give some quality you are wrong.
There is the same percentage of bellybutton hole among the Vet and the whole population.
And I bet that Mister Rooney is trying to get as many buck as he can to have a good retirement.
And yes he is a liar as he is using things "he heard" (like Joan of Arc ?) as proof.

at least he is funny :
We've sent a man to the moon, and that's 290,000 miles away. The center of the Earth is only 4,000 miles away. You could drive that in a week, but for some reason nobody's ever done it.

Man that is brilliant. I would eat there for sure.

Golly-geenit Straffo, I wasn't going to comment on this but now you've just gone too far.
Andy Rooney is NOT funny.

The French have not earned their right to oppose President Bush's plans to attack Iraq.
What an ass.
-
The King of Crotchety is mad at the French? Isn't he always mad at something? I doubt many Americans are going to change their views on France because Andy Rooney decided to go off on them for a couple of minutes. If anything, he's merely voicing what many already feel, right or wrong.

I like how the French refused to be in NATO while it was acctually a real defensive orginization. They would take advantage of it., but be not constrained by it. But once it became a military UN..they joined and now boycott plans to provide for the defence of Turkey.
-
Andy Rooney expresses his opinion. In alot of ways he is an amazinhunk. I would think this fact would endear him to the French.
-
I'll never forget the time Andy Rooney told the story of when shortly after World War II the Americans told Japan, "no more weapons, build cars" but then later in the 80's told Japan "no more cars, build weapons" :D

You perturbed my starting conviction that 60 minutes was the only true source of information on this planet :(
naughty boy ;)
@Yeager perhaps he discovered some french gene in his gene pool ?
-
Heh 60 minutes is decent. However, it is a TV show there to make money and it is far from an authority when it comes to truth.
It usually comes off as quite impartial, but that cracks under close scrutiny.
Rooneys assessments are just his personal opinions, not truths as such. But amusing.
And every show there is some mushy story about the unlikely musician that made it or somesuch. Americans love mushyness. I am embarrased by it.

You know what really bothers me? Big plastic coathangers. They only want to go in one direction, but somehow they always end up facing each other. Then you end up jamming too many clothes in your closet and everything gets wrinkled. I think the guy who designed the big plastic coathanger needs the 'mommy dearest' treatment.

Didja ever notice how some people put the post they are quoting at the bottom of their post instead of the top? Then you have to read the whole thing just to see if it is even worth reading. Dontcha just hate that?
