Title: Last request - can anyone help?
Post by: Swoop on February 17, 2003, 04:03:40 PM
My fiancee's father died this morning.

WO1 RSM William Hallett, RAMC.  1931 - 2003

A few days ago he requested "September Song" sung by Walter Huston be played at the funeral, unfortunately all searches I try return with the Frank Sinatra version or others and I dont have time to trawl round CD shops searching as the funeral is soon.  Can anyone help?

My condolences to the family.  :(

Try this link:  http://www.artistdirect.com/store/artist/album/0,,1106680,00.html

If you click on the "Walter Huston" link on that page, it will lead you to other CDs that appear to have the same song on them.

Damn Swoop, sorry pal..really wish I could help.  I've made a bunch of calls and no-one I know can help either.  I didn't even bother with the internet...I figure you would have tried that route yourself.

:(

Knickerbocker Holiday in which he gave his famous rendition of "September Song"

Maybe a search of this Play might work...

The song was sung in the theatrical release of "Knickerbocker Holiday".

Here is the best I can do about the recording:

Recording year:  1938
Language:  English
Label:  AEI 007
Length:  54:18
Tracks:  4

Here is a link to some info (http://www.eur.com/musicals/rec.cfm?RNumber=634)

The best I can do is a reprise of the original (http://www.footlight.com/product.cfm?product_id=2831)

Good luck and condolences to you and your family.

That CD has a version by Sinatra as well as multiple versions by Huston.

How big is the file though?

If it is too big could you get it burned to a CD?  Then you could overnight it to him...I'll cover the cost.

The play quality sounds just like its coming off of a record, a new record.  i'll use the link posted earlier to send it to you.  I certainly hope it brings fond memories.  take care from Columbus, OH.

Got the error message from attbi today saying it couldn't deliver.

I have winrar but I didn't know about his limit :(

I'm glad to hear he got the song tho, I grew up with the willy nelson version but from my search it looks like plenty of people have sung it.
