SOOOOOEEEEEEE, get yer pork here. (http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_1770.shtml)
:D
"This bill destroys any remaining illusion that the Republican party is the party of less government and reducted spending," says political scientist George Harleigh. "The Republican leadership of Congress has, in less than six weeks, passed legislation that creates the largest government bureaucracy in history, the largest federal spending bill in history and the largest budget deficits in history."
-
Let me find a link saying the same things about Democrats... be right back.

You won't find facts to dispute these truths...
The Republican leadership of Congress has, in less than six weeks, passed legislation that creates the largest government bureaucracy in history, the largest federal spending bill in history and the largest budget deficits in history."
These can easily be found to be true.

"""creates the largest government bureaucracy in history, """
and this "bureaucracy" , does it have a name?

>$250,000 for beaver managemente in North Carolina.

Until we get rid of the Electoral College, the DNC and GOP will maintain their strangle hold on the U.S. govt.
-
Yeah, and then the highly populated urban areas can have a stranglehold on the US government!
Cool! Bread and circuses, just like ancient Rome! New coliseums in every inner city!
Good idea!
-
Never understood that argument, Toad.
One person with one equally weighted vote.... what could be more democratic?
-
Why do we call the United States a Republic?
:D
James Madison, Federalist Paper 10:
"Hence it is that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths."
-
to get rid of the Electoral College you have to change the constitution , that takes a majority of states, Electoral College protects small states , there are more small states than big states, ...therefore , you will never get rid of Electoral College, not legally anyway.
when a democrat wins , the Electoral College works just fine, it's only broken when a republican wins
thats like the florida butterfly ballot ( designed by a democrat), it worked fine as long as democrats got elected, when a republican won suddenly it was broken.

Official Definition of DEMOCRACY
NOTE
Here are four (4) facsimile section reproductions taken from a 156 page book officially compiled and issued by the U.S. War Department, November 30,1928, setting forth exact and truthful definitions of a Democracy and of a Republic, explaining the difference between both. These definitions were published by the authority of the United States Government and must be accepted as authentic in any court of proper jurisdiction. These precise and scholarly definitions of a Democracy and a Republic were carefully considered as a proper guide for U.S. soldiers and U.S. citizens by the Chief of Staff of the United States Army. Such definition stake precedence over any "definition" that may be found in the present commercial dictionaries which have suffered periodical "modification" to please "the powers in office. Shortly after the "bank holiday" in the thirties, hush-hush orders from the White House suddenly demanded that all copies of this book be withdrawn from the Government Printing Office and the Army posts, to be suppressed and destroyed without explanation. This was the beginning of the complete red control of the Government from within, not from without.
-------------------
Prepared under the direction of the Chief of Staff.
CITIZENSHIP
This manual supersedes Manual of Citizenship Training The use of the publication "The Constitution of the United States," by Harry Atwood, is by permission and courtesy of the author.
CITIZENSHIP Democracy:
A government of the masses. Authority derived through mass meeting or any other form of "direct" expression. Results in mobocracy. Attitude toward property is communistic--negating property rights. Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether is be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences. Results in demogogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy
CITIZENSHIP Republic:
Authority is derived through the election by the people of public officials best fitted to represent them. Attitude toward law is the administration of justice in accord with fixed principles and established evidence, with a strict regard to consequences. A greater number of citizens and extent of territory may be brought within its compass. Avoids the dangerous extreme of either tyranny or mobocracy. Results in statesmanship, liberty, reason, justice, contentment, and progress. Is the "standard form" of government throughout the world. A republic is a form of government under a constitution which provides for the election of
(1) an executive and (2) a legislative body, who working together in a representative capacity, have all the power of appointment, all power of legislation, all power to raise revenue and appropriate expenditures, and are required to create (3) a judiciary to pass upon the justice and legality of their government acts and to recognize (4) certain inherent individual rights.
Take away any one or more of those four elements and you are drifting into autocracy. Add one or more to those four elements and you are drifting into democracy.
Atwood. Superior to all others.--Autocracy declares the divine right of kings; its authority can not be questioned; its powers are arbitrarily or unjustly administered. Democracy is the "direct" rule of the people and has been repeatedly tried without success. Our Constitutional fathers, familiar with the strength and weakness of both autocracy and democracy, with fixed principles definitely in mind, defined a representative republican form of government. They "made a very marked distinction between a republic and a democracy * * * and said repeatedly and emphatically that they had founded a republic."

From Weazels link:
$572 million for water systems improvements in someplace called Beech Bottom, West Virginia (a favorite project of longtime Senator Robert C. Byrd).
Isn't he a Democrat? Oh yes, thats right, a racist democrat.
There are white cupcakes. I've seen a lot of white cupcakes in my time. I'm going to use that word.”
-Senator Robert C. Byrd
Looking at this quote, one may think that these words were uttered some 40 or 50 years ago when Senator Byrd was a big shot in the Ku Klux Klan. However, this quote was actually taken from an interview with “the Wizard” on “Fox News Sunday”. Amazingly (not really), this story did not even make the local news here in Washington, D.C., and CNN.com has just a tiny blurb about it. However, I think this raises an even larger issue than media bias. My question is, where is the Rev. Jesse Jackson when you really need him? Indeed, where’s Maxine Waters, Al Sharpton, Alcee Hastings or any of the other political hacks that just sit around waiting to exploit something? It appears that yet another opportunity has arisen for the “Rented Ranter” and his cronies to prove themselves as hypocrites. They seem more than happy to oblige.

Rip hes not a racist - Bryd carries the Je$$e Jack$on stamp of approval. :D

funked is correct.. it would be better to vote libertarian but you need to vote repulican because of the "lesser of two evils" thing..
it all comes to priorities... if guns are important to you then vote republican... If smoking pot and gay marriage is important to you then vote democrat and accept a slightly bigger government.
you guys make this all too complex.

There are other options. The states determine how the Electoral College is used. I'd be happy if my own state did away with the all or nothing votes.

Which state? If it's a big one, don't count on it. Or a small one for that matter. Just about every state stands to gain from winner takes all, and they stand to lose from a representative system.

9/11 was to blame for alot of this spending(Homeland Security), however, its my opinion that it was unnecessary.

The difference between reps and dems with regards to govt size, using the *opponents* words:
Democracts about republicans:
'Republicans wants a bigger government. They want to take money from the needy, the weak, and give them to the war mongering military and the Christian fundamentalists, and thus control the population. They are just Big Business henchmen and will try to put every American under surveillance - if you're innocent, then you have nothing to worry about. Vote for freedom and democracy - vote for a Democrat'.
Repubicans about democrats:
'Democrats want a bigger government. They want to take away our ability to defend ourselves and our natural interests and give the money to lazy freeloaders who have no intention of being anything than a burden on society. They also want to take money from the spiritually and morally sound, creating problems in ethical and moral hygeine. They are just Communist henchmen and will try to put every American under surveillance - if you're innocent, then you have nothing to worry about. Vote for freedom and democracy - vote for a Republican'.

_____________________
they both screw you on the right to bear arms.
the Dems want to outlaw guns.
when the Republicans are in office I just can't afford any.
-
gun? better that they cost more than don't exist. Both parties sieze every opportunity to either scare you or shame you into making their powers over you greater. You are too stupid to have guns or monery or raise your kids or even drive a car.
so far as guns go... it is either or.. vote republican if you want to keep em and demo if you don't. One of the few black and white platforms... even more so than abortion.
Unless smoking pot in public legally or, marrying that same sex partner, is very important to you... You are better off voting republican at this point. Women will be impressed if you tell em that you voted democrat tho.
Also.. if you realize how dangerous to your freedom the EPA is then you will not vote democrat.

roadkill
im a democrat and know many others who are not for gun banning but realize the republican stand on the issue is to get the old reactionary farts and religious conservatives to find a "cause"
guns aren't going anywhere.
next am radio roadkill ?

I'm not even American, if I was my instincts would be for the Democrats. But whatever the outlook of either party the system seems to work. Both resist the madcap schemes of the other and ultimately that's how democracy works. Should one or other become dominant then there danger lurks.
At the moment though Bush seems to be doing his best to ensure that the next President is a Democrat.
-
ldf... you haven't looked into the voting records of the two respective parties on firearms issues then... to think that your party is just kidding or.. that our second amendment rights are not threatened by your party shows that you are not paying attention or, are simply naive.
democrats will circumvent your gun rights at every opportunity.
