I just got a new HP with a 2.2 gig processor and 512megs of ram.  It has the crappy vid card that came with system.  I am getting poor frame rates when there are many planes and or air field in area.

I have windows XP.  What are the step by step procedures for reducing my hardware acceleration from full to 3/4.  I know how to do it in windows 98, but XP is different.

Also, I have heard someone talk about removing ground clutter to improve frame rates, how do I do that?

I also have a crappy vid-card and a crappy system-733MHZ celeron-I'm having the same problen. It's interesting that you have it on that CPU. I guess you have a very cluttered system-like many processes running in the background and stuff-check the hints and tips post by Skuzzy on this forum.
Ctrl+C toggles clutter.
Also, Shift+F3 reduces viewing distance.

However, I don't think you should have FPS problems with your computer, even with a crappy vidcard.

I went onto the site but there are no instructions for that exact task.  I don't want to waste the guy's time emailing him for such a simple deal.  I just don't know what to go into to turn down the accelleration in XP.  I mean it's so simple in Win98.  So if anyone knows, please tell me.

Start, run, type dxdiag, then go to the sound tab to turn it down

the site is more for helping you fine tune XP so it's not having all the resources hogged up which does affect your fps.

someone already told you how to turn down sound acceleration - it exactly the same way as win98...


as for ground clutter, there's really nothing to be turned off now that the sheep and rocks and trees are mandatory.

alt-c  (or ctrl-c) toggles "ground clutter"

I'm sorry but I have to ask, why don't you get a decent video card?  Sound will not be a major factor if you have a 4mb video card the video card is.

Thanx SNO, that worked.

BTW, my video card is 64mb, it's just an off brand, something that came with the system.  I'm trying to make due for now.  I'm not going to add new video card until just before AH II, unless I get really frustrated.
