Title: APIC Enabled/Disabled?
Post by: CavemanJ on February 20, 2003, 05:40:59 PM
Since I plan on putting this thing together this weekend, figgered I oughta ask a question or two.  So which way should I set this one?  Takes a reinstall of Win2k to change it right?

Cave, which motherboard do you have?

I just installed my new system with a Asus P4G8X MB (GraniteBay chipset), and it will only boot in APIC mode with the new WinXP install I did.  No idea why, just relaying my experience.

MSI K7N2G-L, the nForce2 board w/o the raid stuff and other stuff I wouldna use.

K7N2G-L (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=13-130-397) (got a new one, one a refurbished one :D )

Caveman with nforce2 and w2k you should have no problem with using ACPI anyway..

But if you insist on getting rid of it, you can reinstall and press F5 when the installation asks you to press F6 'to install any scsi hardware etc.' the boot will continue but then you'll be asked which type of PC you want and you can choose standard pc from the list.

Some have succeeded in changing the computer role simply from device manager, but it has never worked out for me. It just rendered my puter unbootable (tried it two times on different setups..)

I'd just leave it on Cave.  90% of the time it works perfectly fine and when it does it certainly simplifies things.
