Title: Sucks getting old...
Post by: Sandman on February 23, 2003, 04:19:54 PM
Good gawd, I'm sore.

Playing inline hockey in a men's league... three on three... this was our week to do the double-header and three players showed up. Two full games without a line change. It's not right I tell ya... it's just not right. :)

LOL - I'm 73 years old, proud of it, and I'll make you 30 somethings look like a bunch of rutabagas. You keep complaining like that and the mind set will stick, and by the time you turn 60 it'l be all over.

It makes me madder than Trent Lott at a Million Man March to see you young candy tulips wasting your virility on whining and sniveling. ;)

This post really has me thinking, and in combination with being sick of all the whining about how unfairly a fight went in this game, I really need to get off my tush and become active again.  I think I really got hit hard with age because I'm just plain growing older plus I stopped being active, so it was a double-whammy.  This may put my AH account in jeopardy though, but we'll see.  To motivate me, I actually put up two old pictures of me when I was in shape and linked them to my page.  You can really see a difference in how much weight I carry in my face now...ick.  I'd love to play football again or raquetball instead of sit at the computer so much.

LOL.  Thanks.  Seriously, I'm ready to step away from this computer out into that real world with that big orange bright thing in the sky.  I've heard tales of people getting a tan outside and maybe it'll happen to me too.

The worst thing about getting old I'd imagine would be the inability or increased difficulty of getting a decent looking firm woman.

Preferrably single without children. Sane, rational, passionate yet beautiful.

Such women actually exist when yer in yer twenties - and in yer age group.

This is what worries me the most. I meet women, I bed 'um but haven't met anyone I'd like to settle down with (if you saw the 'Invade Denmark!' thread you'd know what kinda women I am talking about).

So the older I get, the more likely I am to have to make do with a 'second hand' women, possibly raising kids that ain't my own. Heh second hand does soun chauvinistic, the term applies to both genders, so it ain't.

Oh, the loss of dreams and potential is the worst bit about growing old. The rest is just small stuff - until you turn really old and yer body ain't functioning.

more pictures of Mrs Puke and fewer pictures of Mr Puke please :)

yep, it ain't the age that kills you, its the level of inactivity and the slogworm mindset that goes along with it

put down the 12oz dumbell and pick up the 40lb one

Old age is not for sissy's. Mother Nature and Father Time are the meanest pair in the world. They keep coming at you no matter what you do. Hang tough.

hmm... my dad is 74 and he just finished building the house he lives in (probly his 5th).  He did all the work himself.  He also built a '40 chevy "retro rod' from a real rust bucket.

women... I don't know... the trophy ones are not usually to easiestlive with/around...  My latest is no model but... probly the best I have had... uncomplaining, great lay.. good sense of humor... owns her own home and.... is 60 miles away.   I have learned that I can take the most perfect looking woman around and within a couple of months I am finding flaws with her body (never mind he personality) so..

A couple of years ago, a good friend of mine was looking for a mate. He's close to 50 and he's got two failed marriages and a string a failed relationships behind him. He remarked that women between 30 and 40 aren't worth the trouble. If they're available at that age, they typically have "issues."

As to the loss of dreams and potential... What age do you think that happens?

Agree with Lazs.

The 1st Mrs. was a runner up in one of those famous bikini contests. She turned out to be 99% witch.

Much happier now.

Puke - get out and do it!  Decided to make the change myself  about 4 months ago and feel great for it.  Got to 41 - saw 210Lbs on the scales - had to stop for breath walking small hills and thought "If I don't act now I'm going to be dead in 10 years".  It creeps up on you if you're not careful.

Joined a gym - started walking again and looking to start a competitive sport again.

My Dad turns 77 in April.

His wife just turned 54.

They've been married for almost 20 years, he lives on Lake of the Ozarks and fishes whenever possible. He called me the other day to complain that carrying sacks of cement up the hill to his property made him tired. (Made me tired just thinking about it)

Quotes from my 87 year old Mother-in-law, who is one cool lady:

"Old age ain't for wimps!"

"If you don't use it, it'll rust out on you."

So, get moving. You're going to keep getting older right up until the day you die. You've got choices.  ;)

My Grandmother used to say that.

"Getting old isn't bad, people tend to come see you more often when you can't get around".

"Some of the visitors aren't welcome though,
like that Itis family, there's a gaggle of them and that Arthur is the worstest one of the bunch!".

If those before and after pictures of Puke doesn't get you off your bellybutton and in the gym then NOTHING will. Thanks, Puke, for the inspiration. :)

You're not the first guy to succumb to the siren song of online air combat.

Air Warrior killed my volleyball game.  Then a triathlete buddy turned me onto running and that killed my Air Warrior game.  Then Air Warior went away and I got back into volleyball.  Then Aces High came along and that killed my running.  Now I'm back running four times a week, play volleyball once or twice a week, and am thinking of taking up swimming 2 times a week during the workweek and doubling up swimming in the afternoon after running in the morning on weekends.  I've dropped 5 pounds in 4 weeks.  And you know what?  I flew online last night and bagged 6 kills in a Yak 9U on my first flight in 2.5 weeks.  I would've landed them too if I hadn't crashed on my deadstick landing.

By the way, kids like riding their bikes while you jog.

Bikini season is coming up, you know.

Sparks,  You know it!  I've had enough...I don't feel all that well with this extra weight and don't like how I look and so I'm literally going swimming tonight.  I have an uphill battle but know I can do it.  I have a pic or two of me on my desk from when I was in shape and a couple fatso versions of me up next to them that I have to stare at all day to motivate me.

Airhead, lol... they've motivated me!  I've had enough of this.

Gofaster, volleyball is a great sport!  Back when I was active I would sometimes go down to a gym 45-minutes away where they had about four games going at all levels.  But you do those things when you aren't a joystick-potato.

Wlfgng, that's the whole point.  You are active, so you feel younger.

In fact, I have a home office...I'm leaving right now for the pool.  :D

Register now for your first 5k.  Once you lay down your cash, you just gave yourself a monetary motive.  You wouldn't want to throw away that $15 to $20 fee by not doing the run, and if you're going to do the run you don't want to look like a fool in front of all those people. ;)
