Revvin or anyone else with Cougar HOTAS programed with WEP at last 2% of throw on the throttle, could you please provide a link to the HOTAS file??? Paaaaleeeeeze?

I don't remember the code, but don't forget to open up the throttle and move the indents to coincide with wep.

You need to perform a manual calibration of your Cougar to use the profile's or code above or it will display an error. Go to your Cougar Control Panel and do a manaul calibration and then set it back to automatic calibration if you like. You will need to do this if you have flashed your Cougar with the latest firmware update.

Awesome, thanks!! And furious, yes, I opened her up a while ago and have the idents near the end, should be about right. Rev, when I do the manual calibration, do I only go to the identent, or all the way, stop to stop?

Follow the prompts in the calibration sequence, go to full travel on all axis including throttle, rotaries, rudders etc once you've done it you can immediately tick the auto calibration and go back to Foxy and download the profile.

I use a variation of this.

This cycles the engine on/off when you push the stick forward from its fully aft position or pull it back to the stops.   WEP comes on when you push the stick fully forward and comes off when it's pulled back.  I've also put the entire range of in-game throttle between 10% and 90% of the sticks physical throw.  I've open up the throttle & moved the detents to match this.

This lets me free up a button that I'd otherwise have to use for Engine.  Moving the detents & using THR_RANGE make sure I keep the throttle beween the detents during flight and don't accidentaly shut off the motors.  

A coupla caveats with my setup.   First off, you've gotta have the stick pulled all the way back when you hit the runway.  (Otherwise your engine presses will be backwards.  You could always hit "e" to get started the first time, but that sorta defeats the purpose of a HOTAS doesn't it?   Without getting too indepth with the programming, since the software can't report the axis' current physical position, this can't do EXACTLY what I want.   I do have another idea that some of the TM gurus at Frugal's (http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=8) put forth to me, which I'll hafta play with to see if it works out any better for me.)  

Secondly, I use this only for flying single engine fighters.   I haven't begun to set up my file for bombers and have no knowledge how useful it'd be for the buffs.  

As with Revvin's, you've gotta do a manual calibration in order to use the THR_RANGE statement.   After I've done this once, I just stick it back on Auto Calibrate.

I'm gonna finish fine tuning my programming file and post it here within the next day or two.

Just knowing that I can't point and click what I want my throttle and stick to do is enough incentive for me to avoid the Cougar altogether....not to mention the problems with the pots and overall reliability. I've conducted an impromptu poll of some 25 cougar users who I know through AH....60% say they are not satisfied....enough said.

I enjoy flying AH, not toying with hardware....I have a job that keeps me busy enough.

I'm buyin all new CH gear and you should too Hristo:)

Actually, there are very basic programming options for the Cougar which were made for folks who don't wanna get into the serious stuff.  Plus you can just leave it in Windows Mode and assign the keypresses in AH.  Setting up the Cougar needn't be any more difficult than setting up the CH stuff.

60% of an impromptu poll?  That's certainly damning evidence. ;)

As a general rule unhappy people are far more vocal than happy people.

A poll was started some time ago and out of 677 votes there were 63.37% were 'ecstatic' or 'joyous' with their Cougar. A further 17.28% were satisfied users while only 15.51% were unhappy.

Well I didn't see the poll therefore never voted, but I love my COUGAR HOTAS with the SIMPED Rudders. Between here and Frugal's World pretty well any answer can be found, or will be answered. After taking the step, and printing-off and following directions for eliminating center slop (minimal) I know my COUGARS will have a new feel for as long as I own them. Tweaking or fine tuning the mechanics inside are straightforward, and working with metal far superior to plastic. The advice for using WD40 in the stick pots eliminated a bit of spike in the pitch axis, but other than that and grief with SW upgrade 2.02 there tops.

I'm getting a full CH set-up for MsPsyco for the system I'm building for her, but it is only due to the cost of the COUGARs, she still thinks she's getting the COUGAR HOTAS, bwahahahaha, oops, she reads this BB...........:eek:

You can't beat the programmability of the Cougar.  I bit the bullet and bought the Cougar ion December.  It is the only true HOTAS that I have found.  I have the CH Pro Throttle and Combat Stick and the programmability does not even come close.

As far as the pots are concerned CH has the Cougar beat hands down.  I have been flying the CH HOTAS set up for at least 2 and a half years and just recently had to clean the pots due to spiking.  The saving grace luckily for The Cougar is that the user community has answered the call and offers a HAL Sensor to replace the pots and then the Cougar Reins Supreme.


I can't wait to save up the dough to get another Cougar for my guest box, where my CH set up has been relegated to.
