Mine is the F4U-1 Corsair.
It had character, and it looks great with the bent wings.
A second for me is the P-38, mostly cause the first airplane book I ever got was about it. What a great looking bird though.
My least favorite is the P-51, all the glory and half the work.
-
My favorite would be F4U-1. Its faster and more nimble than the Chog, good "perk harvester", and it can take a few hits without disinegrating.
ME163 would be my 2nd favorite, it can turn inside a Zero at 90 mph or it can chase down and kill a ME262.:D
But I tend to gravitate from plane to plane since I like variety.
-
My favorite is the Piper Comanche 180. Why? Because it's mine and I can fly it when ever I want. :D
-
If you're talking of WW2 era planes then it used to be the Hurricane (any variants). I've always loved this aircraft since a young child and considering all the theatres it was used is quite remarkable.
Since AH however, I guess my favourite WW2 aircraft has to be the Typhoon! :) Luvely!
Post War? Erm.... Cold War British jets, such as the Bucanneer or Lightning! :)
-
WW2 era:
FM-2
F4U
Yak
After:
Viggen you cant go wrong with canards
Lightning is cool replicant was my fav. when I was younger
A-10 so ugly so cool so right
-
If we are talking after WW2. I have to day the A1 skyraider is by far my fav! What a great plane!!
-
WW2 ERA:
F6F HELLCAT
MODERN ERA:
Vought F-8 CRUSADER
If you have to ask why, you wouldn't understand. ;)
-
My dad hated the F-8
LOL
I think it is cause one blew him off the deck of the USS America, and into the safty nets! :)

My fav ride has always been the P51. If ya fly to it's strong points, it's unbeatable. But, that's prolly true for most fighters. However, the P51 has some very strong points: speed, agility, firepower, speed, graceful lines (but not as beautiful as the Spitty).:D
-
F4 Phantom.
Or in WWII, any version of the 190. They look too damned good.
-
First one I got postive K/D ratio in: FW190A8
I learned early on that this thing, with four 20mm and a pair of 17s, is a battleship with wings. Talk about firepower! Its a bomber buster that can also take down any fighter plane in its forward view. Climb to 20k, spot a lower target, chop throttle and dive down. Open up all guns at d500, increase throttle, and climb out with a kill on your record. Its a sure way to bust up a furball. Just don't try to follow an evading target or you'll soon end up being a target yourself. Think of flying a NASCAR race car and that's about what you get in the A8.
Second one I got a positive K/D ratio in: FM-2
Its an Extra 300S with four .50cals - pull an Immelmann, then pull another one right on top of it. Its slow on cruise but can dive with good speed. It can also out-turn most fighters it comes across. Its particularly good against N1k2s and Spitfires. P-38s take a bit longer to kill because you have to saw off more pieces before they crash. If you can catch a Mustang you can kill it easy enough. I usually run out of fuel before I run out of ammo.
Current favorite plane: Yak 9U
Blends the best and worst of my first two rides. Its fast enough to catch most planes and turns well enough to stay with a target. Its downside is that you have to get in close, real close, to have any success in it but its performance is well enough that you can chase and close on just about anything you come across. It also has a small ammo load, but that's ok because you'll be shooting at targets so close that all of your ammo will hit. Don't try spraying more than d300 out. LA-7s are faster and turn better, but the Yak-9U will get you more perk points per kill. Just remember to keep an eye on that ammo counter. No WEP either, but you don't need it. Its a real pilot's plane - you can't rely on guns or speed or armour to get you out of a jam, just good pilotage.
-
depends on criteria:
Looks- Spitfire MK I
Flying-Me109 F4
Intercepting nasty buffs: Me 109G10 with a 30mm hub cannon
Leaving you in the dust: Tempest

hurricanes... soptwith camels and u2 spy planes
i like the hurricanes because the hurri1 was the REAL star in the battle of britain...
camels...well why not
and the u2 because it flys high...just like a lot of ah players ;)
-
F4U-whatever
Big, Blue, fast, big, and blue! What a cool plane!
Modern era...
I always thought the B-58 Hustler was the coolest bomber ever built.
http://www.b-58hustler.com/
-
F4-B/J Phantom II and the F-8 Crusader.
F-15 Eagle and F-14 Tomcat.
WW2: F6F-3/5 Hellcat, F4U-1A Corsair or P-51B.
-
My favorite fig at the moment is the Yak9U. My K/D ratio the first full month I flew it was 5/1.
My favorite attack(even though it's classified as a fig)is the Me110. What firepower from the bombs/rockets to the guns. You can pretty much destroy a town with one and it will tear up any planes.
My favorite bomber is the B-26. Although it doesn't carry the bomb load 17s or Lancs do, it can be used as a fighter. One sortie I dropped my load and then got four kills before they got me.
:D
-
For the purpose of accumilating perkies, I currently like the Mossie with the hitting power of the 4 - 20mm hispanos and relatively good turning ability. In spite of the slow climb rate, I especially like the Mossie against bombers. Off a carrier, I almost always use the agile FM-2 for the perkies.
My favorite planes overall, however, are the Me 109's and FW 190's. I just like them, period. Their relative performance has almost "niche" qualities when compared to some of the other aircraft that can generally do everything well, but excel at nothing.
Some planes like the pony, the LA-7 and the Nikki and Spit are marvelous aircraft that I love, but don't fly much because it seems like everybody else is flying them, and they don't reward you with very many perkies.
(I'm always scrounging for perkies so I can crash the jet ;))
-
Hurricanes and a bit more recent, the Thud.... doh...
The hurri looks rugged and mean, nothing like that feeble sissyfire. And the 105, well if there ever has been one aircraft that immediately makes you think of one thing; raw, uncontrolled power... and it's a beauty besides all that :)
-
Spitfire MkVIII. Hell, any spitfire.
Got to actually see a spitfire at the con in august. It's size blew me away.
I thought that the spitfire was a fair size plane but that thing was TINY!
-
100 years from now, 150 years after WWII they will still remember the North American Aviation P51-D Mustang and the Boeing B-17.
They were legendary then, now and will remain so forever.

If you think a Spitfire is tiny you wanna see a 109!
-
yeah nexx there was a 109 there too. Incredibly small. THe 109 was parked next to a hurricane and a p51d (that plane is frickken huge.)
-
The f4u-1 I just love landing perkies 25 or 30 at a time ;}.
No what am I saying the f4u-1 sucks no one should every fly it. Fly the d or the c or better yet jump in a pony. Besides its slow you cant see out of it. It stalls and wallows when you turn it slow and since its not fast you gonna be flying slow all the time. It climbs slower the a lanc. Did I mention you cant see out of it.
Damn if every one starts flying it the emy value would get screwed up. Move along nothing to see here.

P-47 Thunderbolt, far and away. Destroyed an experienced, well-armed LW, and the P-51 comes along and tries to get the credit.

I don't recall which book I read but the author was a Hustler driver...damn that was an amazing machine for its time.
-
Yea OK air-guardd you kida completly missed the point of my signature..... I dont mind because it seems you are not a native english speaker or american. :)
The Bf109G6 was in fact the very plane that Erich Hartmann and a number other top LW aces got most of their kills in. Thus it was the fighter of the greatest aces of all time. :)
-
F4U
gotta love it. big, powerfull and just plain cool to look at.
probably also has something to do with watching to many episodes of 'black sheep squadron' as a kid
-
My all time fav:

P-38 becaue its the most beautiful machine ever built, and the F6F Hellcat looks like a turd with wings :p
-
"Greatest" aces Grun? I prefer to think of them as just the highest scoring aces myself. Greatness would not be an attribute I would associate with a Nazi Pilot.

Whoohoo here we go!

I do understand, but that signature just kinda kicked me yesterday when I read it, cause under influence of alcohol i prolly misread that ironi rofl.
kinda sorry grunherz hehe, but hartman was a altitude and wingman dweeb :D (or a nazi propaganda dweeb)
my favorite ride : everything that suits my mission :)
-
Nicest looking plane for me is the F4F....First R/C plane I ever scratch built....Couldn't figure out how to make landing gear for it,so I painted wheels underneath and would belly land after a hand launch.
Aces High..P47D11/25..I like green...:D
-
P40E...For Duel arena my favorite.
-
Mosquito FB.Mk VI Srs 2 and Spitfire F.Mk XIVc
The Mossie because its fun to fly and it can do any job, though some take quite a bit of work to succeed at. In the last couple of years I've really started to like this aircraft.
The Spitfire Mk XIV because it is a built killing machine. It looks aggressive and it feels aggressive. The Spitfire XIV has been my favorite WWII aircraft for more than a decade.
-
The plane I really wish had gone into production so I could fly:
-
The next coolest bomber around that I plan to fly instead:
-
this one with this paintjob :
-
Ohh, the Spitfire is my all time favourite, and in AH as well. If I was to pick a variant, I'd say the boosted up Mk VII, now that one would eat any other fighter from the same era.
Think of it as a Mk IX on Steroids :D
-
Fighter pliots shoot down enemy planes - I think it's that simple and ideology does not enter into it. Then do you also discount the greatest allied aces like Kozhedub and Pokryskin because they too fought for an evil regime? And what about Japan's great aces, they dont count either do they? Or what about the british who fought to maintain their possibly racist opressive colonial empire? Or the south african flying heros who went back home after the war and created apartheid?
-
WW2 era:
Me-163 Komet
It's beautiful
Modern:
Lockeed SR-71
Idem
-
Any spitfire :)
-
P-47 Thunderbolt.........The JUG baby!!!! Took on the LW when it was still strong and won. And like Ammo said, then the Pony comes along after the hard part is done and get the credit.....
Second favorite.....it's a tie between the F6F and the P-38. Hellcat because of it's ruggedness, P-38 because it was and is so SWEET to look at. IMO, it was far ahead of it's time.
-
WW2: Finnish Brewster & Spitfires = attitude & style
Modern: Su-27 & evos = meanguns
-
It can only be the Me 410 "Hornisse"

Grun, if you re-read my short post I think you will see I didn't say they never counted. I simply questioned the use of the word greatness when applied to them. That they were good pilots is not in question regardless of who they flew for but I do disagree, ideology does matter.
There isn't a word or combination of words that could be used that will ever make me beleive otherwise, however I defend your right and the rights of others to fawn over the Nazi war machine all you want.

Mark.
-
This one. Because that's my grandfather flying it. Lt. David Williams, 384th FS/364th FG. He flew 88 missions in -38J's and -51D's.

Mark I see you are from Texas, how do you feel about the famous old confederate soldiers and generals? In other words was Robert E. Lee a "great" american general?
-
Robert E. Lee was as misguided as was the whole movement from the "South". It was an untenable situation that should never have developed to the point it did. I am a firm believer in the United States as an entity with all states being an integral part of it.
Would I have believed differently had I been in those times? Probably. I have the luxury of hindsight to see it shouldn't have come about the way it did.
