I have seen several threads recently about the trials and tribulations of finding and maintaing a truly unique on-line I.D. I wanted to share my story and maybe you folks can too.
I started playing on-line games in the early 90's. Any of you remember KALI? I played Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Decent, and Fighter Duel over KALI.
I used the handle Goober for all these games. Never met anyone with the same handle. I liked Goober, it was supposed to be like "you can't shake me off" :)
Then I started playing AW, and, MY GOD, there was already a Goober. So I went to Goob.
Then I went to WB and gawddammit, Goober and Goob were taken. So I used GoobDog.
Finally, on to AH, I think I got the orginal Goober account, not sure if I still do, but after a long vacation from AH, I couldn't remember the password. So I tried Goob, Goobdog, etc... Finally had to use my l33t hax0r typing abilities and came up with g00b. and here I am.
The whole point of this is still coming however. I have apparently discovered a UNIQUE ON-LINE I.D. Good as gold! When I sign up for on-line services, BB's, forums, etc. I never have any problems with my new handle. It is very nice to not have to remember which username and password for I used for whatever site I am trying to access. The number of alpha-numeric combinations is finite, and the number of combinations which are short, easy to remember, and easy to type, are vanishingly small. Get yours soon before they're all gone :p

saw one once that looked like it would be easy to maintain.
'dogfart'
Nothin like a lil self-esteem; right? ;)

AH isn't very conductive to having a unique name :)

I've seen 'dogfart' in AH and thought it was so funny I had to point it out to my wife who was passing through the computer room.
I've also seen 'tacophart' in NASCAR racing.

You need to make sure you look at the "book of offensive names" before deciding on a handle.
If you don't have a copy handy just use this simple rule.
If you like it .. Forget it!! It offends someone.
Don't try to argue because it does no good you are wrong no matter what your reason is for the name.
example 1: Bob
Swimmers who had their legs amputated will make you change your name.
example 2: George
Democrats still sore about not being able to steal the election will make you change your name.
example 3: Dick
Lesbians will find this offensive cause...well they don't have one.
example 4: Turdboy
Umm! not really sure WHO was offended but was made to change name.

well when I came to pick a name I sat long and hard, pondered over names, names which would be good also in other games and not be out of place ex Ehartman wouldn't make sense playing quake as the meaning would be lost.
in the end I gave up as they were either really dumb or just too cheesy :)
so I typed in ' BLANK'
a play on words, as I never thought of a name so I use blank in everything, I have come across a few others though :(
Turdboy, you thought of useing
'Merde boy'
or my favourite
'garçon de turd' :D

IIRC g00b does not work in WB (no numerical characters allowed).

Whatever you do, don't ask GPreddy for advise on this one.

Over in AW one of the older founding pilits was named Assassin. The guy had a field named after him. Used to be able to abbreviate the field names there too.
The pilits in the country that controlled the filed called Assassin would radio over their country channel when they were taking off from there: "up Ass" :)
