Title: Getting stomped
Post by: najdorf on February 27, 2003, 10:06:00 AM
Whoever the guys were that were flying Spit 14's around A25 last night, I've never felt so helpless in my short AH life.

I tried every LW ride option given.  It didn't help that we were outnumbered and at alt disadvantage during most fites, but I'm not sure it would have mattered.

It seemed like I couldn't outrun, turn or loop with them at all.  The 109's have such bad compression problems and the D9's don't turn at all.

What do you experienced LW hands do against Spit 14's?

Wait till they pounce on someone else and then try to jump 'em when they aren't looking...

I was watching the text buffer the other night and saw someone claim that the G10 can out-turn a spit 14.  I thought to myself, "No way.  G10 can't out turn an A8."

But then I tried it.  And it worked.  I was amazed.  I still am.

I'm thinking that this G10 is a pretty cool machine.  Just watch to make sure you don't hit 450 and compress, and it seems to work great.

You all knew this.  But I didn't.  So now I'm a lot happier.

I think your problem last night probably wasn't the spit 14, it was the quality of the guys flying them.

I know this may not go over very well...as he does seem to get a negative reaction from many :)
Ask Shane... he has no problem with the Spit14, he actually does have a clue :)

I laff every time someone gets upset with him, he actually is very helpful, knows his chit, and the few times that have been on the same side as him, have noted that he is a good team player and is always willing to take care of the other two guys that are waiting to smack you as you get slow fighting the other two guys :)

I am sure if ya ask him the best way to counter the spit14--he will tell you and teach you...he mainly baits the other teams, and usually is quite successful reeling in a nice catch by the end of the day..lol

Other guys--BigMax, he helpful, JB42, he a dweeb, but helpful:) and several others...

Spit14 ya gotta fight like it is almost a pony, Spit9--that for me is the RunAway RunAway..Grab, Grab plane :)

No one questions shane's abilty. We all have been on the receiving end of his kills. It's the ridiculous remarks he makes when he gets killed that annoys everyone. I've also seen his better moments, however it's those negative things people remember most. He could be a real positive influence in AH, but seems to prefer the role of villian. And sadly, such will be his legacy.

If this was the time I vulched you last night then it was the Assassins, and If that is the same time then there was enemy plane all around you. Try not to up from a capped base. Go to another base and fly to that base with alt and speed and give em' hell.

i generally make ridiculous remarks when on the receiving end of an unnecessary 3-4-5-6-7+ on 1.

that's just....  silly, but hey, it's "smart"   lol.

1 on 1  - a properly loaded, trimmed & flown g6 can kill a spit14 9 out of 10x

greater odds than that depend on the level of skill the gangbangers have or hopefull don't have :)

usually more than one spit14 coming in with alt ain't a good thing, best to turn and run like a girl for the nearest pile of friendly ack or buddy to gain alt

Luckily, the Spit14s have a prop rotating to the left, which boasts a humongous torque, such as I have never seen in any other plane in AH(except when F4Us come in for a landing and do a ground loop).

Thus, chasing down 109s that turn tightly to the left in a prolonged condition, is not an easy task with the Spit14.

I've tried Spit14s in many occasions, and everytime I was outmaneuvered by a G-10 or a plane like a Yak or a La-7, it was during low speed handling. The Mk14 out turns those planes pretty handily, except the fact that once the airspeed reaches under 250mph, it's frickin' scary to try to go to the edge of the envelope. One step over the edge, and the notorious '360 degrees flip' kicks in.

Thus, only the skilled pilots can really handle the Spit14 to their maximum potential during maneuvering contests. I know I can't do that, but I also know that I've been handed my arse manytimes against some skillful pilots in their Mk14s.

Considering that the really skilled guys are always so few, I think a G-10 has a good chance to survive a fight if it can lure a Spit14 to a low speed contest.

 ....

On the other hand.. a D-9, or any 190 as a matter of fact, I think has almost no chance against a Spit14.. except the D-9 can always try and outrun it...

Lol... 9 out of 10 times!!!

Flying the Spit XIV requires a different method as compared to the Spit IX. It's just about the best E fighter in the game, especially above 20k. Down low, the 109G-10 is a good match-up, but the 109G-6 is still over matched. La-7s flown by average pilots are faced with run or die. Waste your E though, and the Spit XIV lacks the turning ability to shake more agile fighters. On the deck, the Tempest gives the Spit XIV fits. But, as you climb to 15k, the advantage swings to the Spitfire. Above 20k, the Spit XIV owns the Tempest.

Eagler, you may had success against the Spit XIV, but that probably reflected the skill of the pilots and their understanding of how to use the it. But, run across someone who really knows how to use the tremendous capability of the Spitfire Mk.XIV, and your Bf 109G-6 is in deep, deep bandini. All it takes is a patient pilot.

My regards,

Widewing

WW, you and pepe maybe my 1 outa 10 times

or would that be 2 out 20 :)

it is definitely more the skill of the pilot than the capabilities of the plane
