Title: Web site creation
Post by: najdorf on February 27, 2003, 04:39:05 PM
I am thinking of trying to create a website for the 13th Sentai.

Anyone that has any information or helpful tips on getting started, I sure would appreciate the info.

Never attempted anything like this before.

Use a what you see is what you get type webpage creator, I think geocities has some. Once you get the hang of it  I would recommend learning HTML.

I am a noob at making websites and stuff.... I use Photoshop 7.0 for the pictures and layout and I put the pics of the layout on Dreamwever and add buttons and everything. It might take a day or so to learn the basics in each of them but there are a lot of tutorials that have a lot of good information. You can get free 30 day trials of those two programs at http://www.download.com. You can also get the full free versions off of Kazaa. ;)

Najdorf,

Some folks like to use Microsoft Front Page as their website editor.  I had never attempted this either, but tinkered with this program for about 3 hours, and guess what I HAD A WEB PAGE!!!
Of course, it was less than some of the eye candy you see out there, but given I had never attempted it, it was pretty easy.

No need to learn HTML for Frontpage, it will convert everything for you.

I found it pretty easy to navigate with.  Give it a try!

I'll take your word for it, since I have no clue.  Just relaying my experience as a webpage virgin and my opinion on a program that I have experience with.

Title: Website Hosting...
Post by: DamPhyno on March 14, 2003, 05:16:20 PM
I'm willing to discuss hosting various Squad's websites on my domain...you can use Domain Forwarding if you want your domain to show as primary...

big Perk - You get access to a Developer with 9 years of WebDev experience, and Database Access for things like member information and statistics, historical information, biographies, etc.

Two sample sites (the 325th started as a copy of the 357th, and was modified from there. Both feature Historical Pilot information and pictures, as well as Player Info from AH.)

http://www.jonathonbarton.com/357th/index.cfm
Highlights: The 357th Historical Pilot Roster and Detail pages show pictures of the pilots that are dynamically selected - Hell no, I didn't put all those pictures in by hand! :))

http://www.jonathonbarton.com/325th/index.cfm
Highlights: The 325th Player Detail Pages have "Kill Markings" that are variable dependent on what's in the database - Hell, No, I don't maintain those pages by hand! :))

Look and feel can be completely different, as long as your site has these 3 elements.
A header that does not change across pages
A Body of information
A Footer that does not change across pages

On both sample sites, the header is the navbar on the left, and the footer is the HR and the copyright notice at the bottom.

Just about anything you can dream up can be had...

Interested?
