I know that there are as many views on the up and comming war as there are people on this bulitin board. I just have 1 request. When/ If the shooting does start lets not show our people in uniform a divided country. We should back our troops 100%. When the shooting does start the time for debate has ended and the time for unification and support starts.

Soldiers are instruments of policy. IMHO, they have taken an oath and they do not have a choice.
Anyone that holds the American fighting men (and women) to blame does not understand the importance of an oath and deserves your contempt.

I'm sure that would be the case. You will notice that some of the most anti-war guys here are vets. They will support their brothers.

You can support the troops but not the war. That's a lesson taken from Vietnam.

what they said.

You mean when the hippies were chanting "baby killers" and throwing excrement on the soldiers returning to the US?
The "support the troops but not the war" is complete BS.

Lessons are best learned from mistakes Steve.

When must a soldier think for himself?
every gawdamned second.
And during Vietnam? From many of your postures I'd imagine you'd have been tossing rocks at and berating that wars protestors and beating anyone who'd gone to Canada instead of being drafted.
I get great toejams and giggles watching the under-informed and and media hosed pimply faced pinheads tell me how I shoulda felt about my gawdamned war.

It is your duty not to follow an unlawful order.
Interpretting what is an unlawful order vs. an undesirable order in the feild would, it seems to me, be extremely difficult in many cases.
edit-- it appears we have lost a post.

Especially if that order is coming from the pResident...

It ain't all that damn hard furious.
scenario:
your under orders to clean out a town.. you round up the townsfolk and line em up. they are unarmed. an officer tells to to lock and load.
no problem here, is there?
Your unit, while advancing has captured a significant number of opfor prisoners. they are disarmed. your officer says lock and load.
no problem, right?
A train pulls into the sation. offloading commences, the prisoners are herded into a building with ovens. they are to be executed.
no problem, right?
Thers no doubt.. not one little bit of doubt that the orders are unlawful. the REAL dillema is: what do you do about it?
THATS the hard part. Not deciding what an unlawful order is.. but what you, Private Joe Blow; can do about it, right there and then.

Wow. You must be hanging here just waiting to pounce on anti-war posters. Good for you. you have a "purpose" and that must mean something. And I'm not telling anyone anything. I asked two questions. Kind of simple.
I also deleted that post within mere minutes after writing it as I soon re-realised that there was not much here in the way of a level headed audience that would read the post without having an auto reactive knee jerk response - let alone understand the significance of the eronious assumption that soldiers HAVE to do what they told to because the must follow orders.
Oed
No, I'm not 'hanging here just waiting'. I just took the post for what it was.. a slap in the face to anybody who would have the unmitigated gall to speak his mind. You'll note I have not commented on the original posters premise.. merely ripped you a new one for having spewed such un-thought out drivel in the thread.
It has nothing to do with auto-reactive knee jerk responses.. other than yours.
