Title: Classic AH moments
Post by: Jackal1 on March 02, 2003, 07:00:19 AM
I get a kick out of this every time I see it happen. How many of us did the same thing or the old fighting the deadly shadow routine?

Last night, in CT, someone was wanting to change sides but didn't know how and was asking on channel 1. Someone else asked him what side he was on (not that it mattered) and the guy answers, "green."

In some other not too unknown game the sides are distinguished by colors. You'll see the same drop troops on fields instead of towns.

Other game?! You mean there've been other games?!

*chuckle*

Still came off funny to me, in spite of understanding the new player's confusion.

"I'm on the green side." (It's true, I always am.) :D

I remember Hangtime's story when he were flying behind the group of newbies, and someone asked how to remove the instruments panel from the view. Hangtime answered, and in a seconds flew thru the row of chutes :)

That would be "Air Warrior" for those scratching their heads.

how quickly some forget that towns weren't in AH until just a few versions ago an dyou had to drop on bases as well...

so some of the drops could be returnees rather than refugees.

I remember on the island map we were in the se corner with only our main island fields left.

17 was under heavy attack.

I was on the rearm pad at a16 when the typical cap lock mission general starts about forming a mission from 16 to 17.

A few guys replied they would join but they didnt know how. Then the guy planning the mission could figure out the editor. He gave up and asked that anyone who was interested to spawn spits at a16.

They took off east from 16 where it drops off and theres a hill to the south. You need to fly a bit east to get around the hill.

I rolled right after them, there was about 9 of umm. Well their "leader" hung a quick right and tried to climb the hill. All his mission dudes followed. Well their leader stalled and smacked the hill and 1 by 1 the whole mission flew into the side of the hill.

I type something like "damn your whole just flew into that hill".

The mission leader dude types back "I guess you guys will me follow anywhere".

That was damn funny.

Kind of reminds me of the incident during, IIRC, WWII, where a destroyer group was sailing down the California coast in bad weather; the group commander screwed up his navigation and made a turn into a harbor he hadn't reached and ran aground, followed dutifully by all but one of the group following him.

In a prime example of military intelligence, the captain of the destroyer that held off the coast and didn]t run his ship aground faced a court-martial for departing from the formation without orders to do so. Regardless of that fact that he'd saved his ship by so doing (his navigator had a better fix on their position, so he knew they weren't turning in the right place).

You guys are forgetting the biggest clown in the History of Aces High ... Guntard26.

There are still screenies that pop up from time to time showing the worlds biggest tard.  That guy almost made me switch from Bish.....just so I could shoot him down.  In the end it was funner to broadcast his position and stay high above as he got shot up.

I don't think he was getting 6 calls or help from anybody.

I just think it's sad that anyone who would download and install a game, wouldn't take the time to read the rules first. Especially in a flite sim like AH, where you really need to know what yer doing in order to compete well. Instead, for a couple years now, I have seen over country and CH1 channels, questions asked by FNGz: "how do I take off?", "How do I land?", "what is the command for ?" ; "why do I keep on dying?"
I mean, take a moment to learn the rules first. The enjoyment part will happen sooner once they know the rules.

Not sure if it's as bad as I posted a mission to take a base back.  Bout 20 cons upped in a hanger.  Well the hangers flight path went str8 into another hanger.  Needless to say we all went str8 into the hanger.  Nothing like a fudged mission to start off with.

I saw just the opposite last night in the CT. P62 has the bunker on the base instead of the town. I manned field ack and could only watch as a goon dropped troops way over in the town.

Monday night- 10:30 CST
I came out over the water gaining alt as I went. Cocked, locked and ready to rock, check for dot dar, nothing. Heading south gaining alt slowly in sector 10,10. Check dot dar....woaaaaaaa wait a mainute, NME on my 6 on dar.
Bring her around, nose pointing directly at dot on dar, check high.....nothing. Check low ........nothing. Pass through, dot now appearing on my 6 on dar. Roll to inverted, check all views..........nothing. WTF? Thinking to myself this must be either aliens or an invisible plane. Turn on film , crisscross area twice more at aprx. 16 to 13 K, pass over area.......nothing.  Shrugging I headed to Bish port that was being attacked. Just as I was leaving the sector I glanced at text. Steve says" lol squid shows up as bog on dar".  Slinking away I`m thinking , at least it`s not aliens.

Is this the guy who changed his handle to 42..thinking 2X26=42?  When it was pointed out the 2X26=52 he then said "And people say I'm stupid"?

If so..I didn't forget it.  It is the all time best I've seen.

You mean this one Skernsk? (for the uninitiated gunman's original handle was gunman26, then he disappeared, possibly after being banned, and reappeared as gunman42, the following conversation then started:)

When dropping troops while flying level it is hard to drop them at the right place, even when flying at 1kft. Are you sure he wanted to drop over the field, not over the town?

In AW one time, I augered to get a goon. I'm approaching the base in question and lining up to drop my drunks. I hit the button to push all of my drunks out and nothing is happening. A squaddie flys up next to me and tells me I'm flying an F6F. Needless to say, I was in such a hurry to get a goon to the base, I didn't even pay attention to what I was flying. Some of my squaddies to this day won't let me forget that one.

I've spent time flying goons down below 50' H-over-G taking advantage of every little bump and gully to hide from the dirt on my screen several times. Although spending five minute trying to hide in the terrain from my mouse pointer has got to rank up in the great 'oops' competition...

You know you're tired when you keep trying to click on a window to get it to pop up over the piece of paper you have leaning against your monitor.

I remember during my first month so many years ago a little event that happened to me. There was a witness, even though I can not remember who it was, that can attest to my story.

Anyway like I said I was new to AH by about a month. Right after the Beta tours. We are on NDIsles and we, we being the Knights, are in the coffin corner as usual. I was having rather bad luck that day with the ACK nailing me on my bomb runs. So...being the NEWB that I was I thought a little squeaking on Channel 1 would make me feel all better.

So as I am heading back to target, middle of friggin no where. I mean no cv groups, no AFs, and no strategic targets and I mouth some sort of blastfimus nonsense about the lazer accuracy of the ACK. After my statement I begin to see and hear small puffs of FLAK. I look around and I can see no orgination point but the flak starts to get heavier. I can not see where this FLAK is coming from so being the gluton I was I smart off on channel 1.

After my brief statement all hell breaks loose. Now mind you I am 30 miles from everything 25K up and the FLAK erupts on me. It was like being in a Tin barn in West Texas as the worst hail storm ever seen by the planet hits. Naturally my B-17 is toast but I manage to bail out. I immediately get on country channel asking about the phenomina and my witness is laughing his bellybutton off.

I had a good laugh about it, and since then I have never talked smack about ACK in AH. You take your life in your own hands if you do.

I was flying in H2H arena a few months back.  One of those wierd maps with very high bases.  Jumped a C-47 at 20K!  He saw me coming and dropped all his troops.  I shot him down, made a wide circle, waggling my wings, popping flaps and then gear to lose speed.  Hit the end of that line of troops at about 125 mph, and killed them all in one pass.

I still get the giggles over that one.

Long ago, when the B17 didn't carry any MGs, it was very nice to spot one, plant yourself straight on its six and blast away.

A few days before the introduction of the patch that brought the turrets to the fortress, I engaged one, and at 1000' I started hearing pings... but no one else was around, only the bomber and myself.

The answer came as I was hitting the silk:

SYSTEM: hitech has shot you down
