Title: video setup page
Post by: Nilsen on March 02, 2003, 03:22:21 PM
im playin the game in 1024*768 res at 16 bit colour...

How should i check the "video setup" boxes if im just going for max fps, and not the visual quality of the game?

My graphics card is not very good, and im getting around 10 fps when in furrballs over burning fields...when in clear skies i have somthing like 40-50.

The graphics card is a 16mb of some sort in an ibm laptop

Skuzzy kinda answered when i asked in MA but i had a lala on my six so i didnt get the reply 100% :D

yeah that helps of course, but 1027*768 is usually good enough....its just in those low furballs over stuff thats burning.

Just wanted to see if i could squeeze 1 or 2 more fps by adjusting some other stuff :)

I squeezed about 10 extra FPS out of my system by using enditall, when you first go to use it make sure you protect systray, your isp, and any essential programs that you NEED to run the game here is the link to that site. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,697,00.asp (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,697,00.asp) Another thing that greatly enhanced my performance was using memturbo and netturbo, these can be found at the following links: http://www.memturbo.com
http://www.netturbo.com  :D
PS running in a lower resolution actually makes other planes bigger:) so they are easier to see! So hi res isnt alwayse the answer

It will also help your performance to run AH at the SAME resolution as your desktop.

You can also disable mip-mapping in the AH video setup as well as in your video card display settings and eek out a few more FPS.  If you don't like the 'shiny' textures you get with mipmapping disabled and want to keep mipmapping enabled, you can lower the 'LOD', Level of Detail.  That too will squeeze out a few more frame rates.  Do not enable Anti-Aliasing unless you have a super fast system with a GF3 or higher.  Since AH doesn't have built in support for AA, it makes your video card work twice as hard and will decrease your fps.
