Second Logitech in a year down the fluff'n tubes.
I prefer a twisty stick - dont have $400 to be spending on HOTAS/Pedals setups.
Looking at the Microsoft sticks - dont like force feedback and I dont like the X45.
Anyone use the sidewinders? How do they hold up? I dont think CH makes a twisty stick. Anything Im missing? What do you recommend?

Twisty axis go spiky then die? I've had 3 Logitechs do that. Fortunately, all but the last one under warranty.
Never owned an MS twisty stick. I took the repeated rudder axis failure as a sign and bought some rudder pedals. I've always thought that other people's MS sticks had a good feel, even if a little limp in the wrist. Can't say anything about reliability though.

pedals aren't that much and you don't have to go with the full HOTAS to use them.
I've been using ch pedals($70) and a thrustmaster x-fighter stick ($19) for about 5 years with no problems (on the second stick though)
thats only about $25 a year.
I don't know what I'll do when this stick craps out though. I don't think they make them anymore and I haven't found another stick that I like

I used a Sidewinder 3D Pro for 5 years and loved it, but alas it spiked and died. Went thru TigerDirect.com and bought a new Thrustmaster Wingman Extreme for about $20. So far I like it better than my old Sidewinder.

The MS precision pro was one of my most reliable joysticks. I went through 2 logitech wingman extreme 3Ds in 3 months and found the Precision Pro to be a reliable relief.

Using all CH now but used the MS Sidewinder and Logitech Wingman Extreme before. They are both "ok" sticks. The MS will last a little longer on average but the Logitech is a little cheaper usually. Would never go back to them but they work. Liked the LWE a bit better but not much.

i swapped my old MS 3D pro out for a Cyborg Gold 3D.....huge difference in favor of the Cyborg. It was much more accurate in terms of smoothness and sensitivity to your movements. The MS just seemed clumsy and had to much play in it compared to the Cyborg.
the only downfall i could find about the cyborg is the hat wore out eventually...maybe i have a lead thumb?

Nope.
Neither Saitek not Logitech sticks last me a year.

Thanks guys.

Just an idea ;) :
why not get a real flightstick (as opposed to joystick :D implying a toy)
for an affordable price?
Do a search on ebay for Thrustmaster's SWF22,
which is either the older F-16 FLCS (weak springs) or its "big brother" F-22 Pro (very strong springs)
plus the TQS (be sure to take the "erazorhead" model)
with Bob "Sticky" Church's digital chipset included:
the quality is top-notch (I still got my very 1st combo dating back to 1994 -
how many generations of Logis, MS' or Saiteks have you seen kick the bucket since then :p ?!),
the programmability awesome (complex if you wish to learn it, but not too complicated),
and the price should be affordable since it's used gear and the HOTAS Cougar's available since a while.
Just my 2cts, of course - backed up by almost a decade of using this combo ;) ...

Mazz i think youll like any MA stick personally i use a MSFF2 and i love it - it just adds so much more inersion to the game but thats just MHO . Ms stick that i have had all lasted long with the exception on 1 it was my MSFF1 and my drunk buddy had to twist and twist the thing till the thing snapped internally, but it still works fine after i took it a part and fixed the bend twisty senor back into place.

I have been using MS FF pro for 3 years, no pots to wear out or spike as it uses an optical thingy ie IR light like an optical mouse.
Turn off FF if you dont like it (I only have on the stall buffet)
Very reliable and strong.
just not a lot of buttons
