i honestly believe it has to do with the "stand up and lie like a white man" crap that is passed off as nessisary evil in order to get what is right dont matter if good men die in the process in peace time. in our military as a fairly recent exvet i have seen it . the people in positions or power got there by kissing bellybutton not being better (you can tell the endlessly talk about how important it is to be better) while being petty sissys almost to a man themselves. or stark ravin death wish loonies very little in between.
the "conservative" viewpoint that is so popular in the military was disgusting enough to me that i changed political partys and blew my life (stoped lying like a white man) to get away from the lying cheats we call managers/officers in our american culture to save some piece of my soul. i entered the navy a conservative republican and left it the furthest from the ideals of the tratorious lying bastards calling them selves conservatives i could. i will spend the rest of my life fighting them. if there is to be a death of america it will come at their hands. think what you will im totaly serious.
i have been so effected by actions i saw in the military this is the toned down version.
Any chance you can elaberate? Your one of the few X Military people I know who see to have hated it. I know some who didnt like it but you seem to have some vary real anger.
Could you share some of the things this was about?
If you dont want to talk about it here feel free to email me at GTORA2@hotmail.com.

There are still tickets available???

i made a outburst about somthing that happend to me in the navy. basicly a bunch of fellows did a old boy thing that got people killed and nothing ever came of it at all. hundreds knew and noone including myself ever said anything as far as i know.
was having one of my infamous bad days. should have shut up.

as an ex navy enlisted man myself, i'm afraid that lord dolf vader is quite right.
Establishment which exists for mututal protection and promotion is quite a frightning club once you meet it.
-
To go after him, I just wanted to know what he was talking about.
-
eh, gtora2, but in theese times of witchhunting, anything can unleash the mighty character burners.
Well I hope make sense, I have no time to check vocabulary :)
-
Was that the turret explosion?
-
The Good Ol' Boys network is only frightening if youre not a part of it.
-
Ever read the book "a glimpse of hell?"
It was about the turret going up on the Iowa.
Disturbing.....very disturbing.
Shook my beliefs..... badly.

This is the reason I didn't make a carreer of the Army. I'm not at all suprised that it still goes on in all branches of the military.

It sounds to me like ol Dorf passed out while out drinking with a bunch of his military buddies and woke up later with his drawers around his ankle and a very sore butt.
I'm sure he is scarred for life at having not been awake for it.

So is lying like white man comporable to stealing like a black man?
-
Yes it's similar to stabbing like a Mexican or driving like an Asian.
-
Or: Just bein a Grun
-
or Ranting like a GRUNHERZ
-
Why is this ranting?
How would you liberals react if somebody did actually did make a reference like that about blacks? I know you MT, with your black sons would be the first to lead the attack. toejam just look at the instan liberal fear reaction at me even bringing the concept up?
But its ok to make derogatory references towards "lying white man"....
-
You weren't ranting but you have to admit you are good at it. :)
-
Hell Yes!

Oh yes... good old hold on, bend over and take it like a man routine.
No thank you. I'll take my chances in the private sector where i can always walk away. I guess unlike some people, i don't like getting diddlyed for no good reason.
-
we called 'em 'Lifers'.
-
you think you dont get diddlyed in the private sector? Its worse.
-
What you get out of the military is directly proportional to what you put into it.
If all you want out of the military is YOU... that's what you'll get. ;)
-

Ummm... spoken like an Air Force Officer and Pilot. Sir.
The view for the enlisted folks was a mite different.
Course, I can only safely comment on the view from my hole.. the vantage point of others could produce a remarkably different view of the same terrain.
I had a CWO in charge of my section that had 17 years in.. he was no 'lifer'. I also had a butterbar to contend with that had 2 years in who was most assuredly a 'lifer'.
The numbers of the second type were significantly larger than the first. It was my humble opinion that the army needed more #1, a whole lot less #2.
-
Maybe the AF was a lot different. Don't know. I do know several of the enlisted guys I knew in my Wing have done very well in private life and don't regret their AF days one bit.
As for needing more of one and less of the other... you aren't really going to tell me any big biz or corporation is any different, are ya?
I hate it when beer goes up my nose, so don't, pleeeeze.
-
former enlisted here, disabled veteran due to a "training" incident. It could have easily be avoided and 2 officers didnt follow the regs. People investigating it knew they didnt follow the regs also. I hold no ill feelings towards them or the military. I am greatful for the opportunity to serve.
I volunteered. I wanted nothing other then to serve and see the world. I made a ton of good friends, even the officers in charge during my accident. Its all what you put into it.
-

Lord no.
;)

well Toad, enlisted Navy here, so it must be rather different.
Upper echolons of enlisted structure in the unit i've served in were populated by the lifers Hang refers to. Usually people with no education or skills other then long time served. They are self absorbed click bent on harrasing anyone not following their way of thinking, and i'm not refering to the duty itself.
During my 4 years whenever we were back at field ( Cecil Field ) i've taken number of college classes, trying to better myself and all. On top of that i was competent with computers and i had audiacity to actually read publications other then Husler and Little Sluts. That quickly earned me the opinion of one who "thinks he's better then others" and just about every toejam job that could be thrown at me.
I managed to get advanced despite toejam evals i was given. On me "penitalty" assignments as an E4 i usually ended up doing E6s or E7s jobs ( Aviation supply corps ) with distinction. Didn't metter. I didn't go golfing with master chief, didn't chew tabaco, and couldn't talk about football average of some running back somewhere out there. That made me a nice fat target.
I got what i wanted from the service time. I bettered myself and learned things about myself. However, i would be a moron to stay longer then 4 years, cause learning stopped after first year.
Only lesson i've learned past that was what they thought me. I was indeed better then them. :)
It was a joy to go back to florida 2 years after getting out as an an E4 and let some friends in the squadron know my current salary. I knew it would get to few of the "old click" and would royally piss them off :) I just might go shopping in Winn Dixie one of those days see if i can meet my Master Chief at that cashier post he'll be working once he retires...
Yeah, i'm tad sour. It was good, it was bad. Your definition of "you get what you put in" is only true if you are a confirmist and willing to play by "thier" rules and subscribe to all they do and say, even if it goes against your own integrity.
-

Well, Ski.... you did better yourself and all, didn't you? And doesn't the military, unlike a lot of civil jobs, encourage higher education and make small allowances so that you can do so? I mean on my base, there was an office for continuing education that you could go to and they'd HELP you further your education.
I think you DID get out of it what you wanted and what you put into it.
If you'd have been one of the "non-improvement" types just killing time waiting to get out and not taking the opportunity for education and experience in computers.....

I just wasn't in the mood to get preachy Grun, but you are absolutely right. I would have said something, and I should have said something.

Add me to your list. I can't say that some don't have legitimate complaints against the military but I can say I knew many that weren't happy unless they were complaining (of course they weren't happy if they were either).
-
its the military of course you play by their rules....sounds like someone shouldnt have joined.
-
Toad, USNavy enourages it, i absolutely agree. However if your E9 makes a point to make your life miserable to discourage you, because he considers you using that opportunity to be "elitist", is whole another story.
Dnil, there is a fine line between the military rules and social behaviours of those inside it. If you fail to see it, i dount that you'll understand.
By the same token i guess those females in Air Force Academy should have just spread them wide and "play by the rules" right ?

so rape only happens in the military? if you acted in the military like you do in your posts, no wonder you were singled out for an "attitude" adjustment. You cant be your own person in the military, if you do people die. Don't join if you want to be an individual, thats not what its about.
I only have a problem with you taking shots at the military like its the only place with these problems....its called life it happens everywhere.

You're selectively reading my posts. This one is on military, hence i'm critiquing. Would you like me to discuss the latest Broadway play here or something ?
No, rape doesn't happend in the milirary but just because it happends outside doesn't make it allright inside. Wouldn't you agree ?
Yes, you can be your own person in the military. There is the duty, and you can't be your own person when it comes to duty. However, you're confusing duty and harrasment. Two are not going pair in pair. The idea that higher ranked person should be able to do anything to the lower ranked one in the name of tradition and "preserving of chain of command" and duty is BS, and you know it.
If you don't agree please remind me what were you supposed to do when your own superior was blankly violating rules and regulations of the service in front of you ?
Follow along or question it ?
