It's because the U.S. is in it. That's why. It pays most of the dues and also shoulders most of the burdens second to the U.K.
Simple answer is that the U.S. should withdraw from the U.N. and let the other nations handle the burden in it's stead.
The U.S. should remove all troops from Germany and all other countries. All finicial aide should be stopped to other countries.
All of the estimated $80 billion that would be spent on the war with Iraq should be spent on education and health care.
The U.S. should listen to all of the international community. It should stop acting on it's own. It shouldn't act aggressively. It shouldn't be as assertive. It should mind it's own business.
It should close it's borders. It should save all of it's monies. It should ignore all the rest of the world. It should stop interfering in matters that it doesn't haven't direct interest.
Well, I would like to see that. I really would.
Please remember this when Iraq or North Korea start bombing someone you love. You don't appreciate my money or my involvement. You don't appreciate MY COUNTRY.
When I served in the Marine Corps you didn't know I was there. Strange...I knew you were there because I was probably in your country.
Not only did my country spend money to protect another's country but it also risked it's own peoples lives to do so. Most times for an ingratefull group.
That being said...I hope we do remove all of our troops from most foreign countries and stop all of our finicial aid to other countries. How long would it take before the international cry would resonate?
When the protection is removed...then the true positions will be reveiled.
Turkey wants $30 BILLION for U.S. troops to be stationed on their native soil. Perhaps the U.S. should walk way. Perhaps Iraq should find her aggressive nature again. If the U.S. walks away from the U.N. then Turkey has very little defense.
I would rather cut the umbilical cord to the rest of the world. Call me xenophobic. I rather consider myself abused. Put my money and my life on the line for everyone else and be ridiculed, mocked, bashed and blocked.
"Dont bite the hand that feeds you" Old axiom....new century.

What I want to know is how do these guys get into the UN anyway? Are they educated? Do they have a clue? I can see them not wanting to move on Iraq because "Iraq has no weapons of mass destruction and it is all a USA scare tactic"
UNTIL
IRAQ has destroyed "X" number of these chemical, biological and who knows what else weapons in the last few days.
I was watching the news and was dumbfounded. Why all of a sudden is IRAQ destroying all of these weapons that they DID NOT HAVE???
Wake up UN it's time to drop the gloves before the world takes one in the chops.

Because at long last, after 12 years, the gun is loaded, cocked and pressed against Saddam's forehead right between the eyes?
......just a guess, though.

norm is the one that allowed iraqi helicopters to supress the kurdish revolt on the presidents orders. league of nations failed because we were not involved, and our UN dues are a drop in the bucket compared to porkbarrel spending spree our government is on right now. Dont forget a budget that isnt balanced to begin with and throw in a war that might or might not happen.

What typical arrogant statement.
The League had all the "major" world powers in it. The US, at that time, was NOT a "major" world power; check the size of the US military in the post-WWI era.
This statement, like so many others of yours, leads me to believe your history teachers were willing to allow a lot to slide on by.

cry me a river.......
some countries ONLY have the UN avenue to voice there opinions......
not every country has 20 carriers to defend itself......
not every country has 5000 nuclear weapons to detere opponents......
yet you don't even consider any of these countries by your "cry me a river" statement.....
you are not alone in this world...even though you think you are...
the UN was created to help the little one's...not to impose the big one's authority.....
as you know...the world is gettin smaller....if its not the UN then it will be something else....don't forget....you'll not always be no.1.....
the UN was created for PEACE.....not WAR.

Curious that the UN has specific mechanisms used to allow it to go to war, isn't it?
