Tempers flare at Islamic summit (http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/03/05/sprj.irq.conference/index.html)
CNN:
The UAE proposal, which was also floated at Saturday's Arab League summit, calls for Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein to surrender power and leave Iraq under the control of the Arab League until it can be returned to the Iraqi people.
The proposal, which was generally accepted by Gulf states, was not discussed during Saturday's summit.
Iran suggested that neighboring Iraq could avert a war by holding a general referendum, supervised by the United Nations, in which Saddam would discuss and agree to a future government with Iraqi opposition parties.
Both good alternatives to war. We can hope, I guess.

They just did that referendum thing...but not UN observed obviously. Sadaam had almost 100% support of his people...surprise, surprise. Even if the UN was observing I think the result would be the same...in fact I'm willing to bet my life on it. Sadaam has no respect for the UN now...what on earth is going to change that? His secret police will ensure the vote turns out the way he wants it through intimidation and threats. What could Johnny Peacekeeper possibly do about it?
The whole idea that Sadaam will give up power volutarily is a total and utter dream. It ain't going to happen.
Good ideas Toad...but unworkable.

considering saddams alternative any other "plan" sound agreeable to anyone with half a brain, but then again they are dealing with saddam....
wasn't this "summit" just trying to make this into a religion thing? nothing like a war rally than get thier ignorant masses into a religous war... oh yeah - we are trying to make the arabs our slaves too

Never happen as long as it is a voluntary situation. sadumb won't give up what he has now willingly.
