Make yourself the prey and get them to hunt you! (of course have a 22-250 on hand with some good fragmentation bullets!) :D
-
much better rushes to be had
-
What's the point of the post?
Unless your showing everyone how to prepare it so it can be eaten, pretty pointless IMO.
And yes, I do hunt, deer, rabbit, bird. But I eat what I kill. No point in killing something just to kill it. Not even for the pelt. No rush in that, especially a coyote.
You want a rush, go after a Kodiak bear........
with a sharp stick :D
Post a pic of that, THEN I'll be impressed.
-
The only good coyote is a dead coyote! Coyotes kill more deer in the state of ohio than hunters do, by 10 fold. If you see a coyote and have the means, speed him on his way. a "sniper-esque" rifle is great and efficent for eliminating those little beasts, one of the best shots ive made is when still-hunting (wandering slowly through the woods, stalking) jumped a coyote from the opposite side of a thicket maybe 10 yards away. I was very surprised i got that close to a coyote! he jumped and took off in a rust colored blur and making like billy the kid drew my .44 magnum and dropped it in one shot. Anyway, keep cleaning out the coyotes, way to go.

woo hoo , , go after a Kodiak bear with a sharp stick, now thats hunting,
reminds me of joke ....
2 hikers in woods..
1st hiker: "what do we do if a bear attacks?"
2nd hiker: "i'm wearing running shoes"
1st hiker: "you can't out run a bear!"
2nd hiker: "i don't have to out run the bear , i only have to out run you"

Nice 'yote.
Ever take a look here? http://www.accuratereloading.com/
A lot of great hunting info to be found on these forums.

Coyote lovers, he posted a disclaimer:
(not for treehuggers)
Coyotes are vermin. They kill livestock, they kill pets, they kill game animals. If you have them on your land then you want them dead or gone. Nice shooting medicboy.

Poor Fox...
How dare you kill a fox, it could be a possible endagerd species, and it should be!
Im gonna hunt you down and shoot as many shots as it took u to shoot that, yes I know 2 shots, but still!
Sorry had to do it..LOL!
-
killed a few when I was a kid. (you used to get $ for the pelt plus bounty money on coyote ears, not sure if you get bounty anymore).
as far as the 'rush' from them 'hunting you', hardly. not much different than killing a rabbit. both run from you with or without the gun. not exactly scary. about all we have in the US that is a real danger to the hunter is bear, boar, and elk.

to me, this is the ultimate rush.. not killing "varmits"

Skiiers motto: "It's all downhill from here."

Jeepers, anyone can shoot a Coyote. Hell, even a roadrunner can take one of those guys out, don't you watch TV?
For a rush, try blasting through the Santa Monica mountains on a motorcycle. I've gone through some turns that were hundreds of feet above sea level that looked out over the Pacific... with no guard rails. When you do that corner at 50-60 with your knee touching the pavement, that, my friend, is a rush.
-
Sorry wlfgng..I'd say this is a wee bit closer to the ultimate rush...but I dig where you are coming from.;)
-
LOL ultimate rush?
Yeah, I bet you were terrified as the little critter ran away from you at full speed. He could have knawed your ankle!
-
you have me there Curval :)

Yep, that animal sure is dead. You certainly killed the toejam out of it.

Don't mind me....I'm just saving this post for future judging for the Silver Vossy Award*. A Billy The Kid snap shot with a .44 Magnum at a rust colored blur? WOW!! Of course coyotes are grey and it's foxes that are rust colored, but you shoulda been a gunfighter in the Old West.
*Silver Vossys will be awarded to those posters whose imigination and ability to roadkill far exceed the norm even for this group of roadkillters here in The O'Club.
DISCLAIMER: Silver Vossys have no affiliation with the cyber pilot known as Voss.

""Coyotes kill more deer in the state of ohio than hunters do, by 10 fold. ""
so for every 10 coyotes killed we should kill one hunter ??

Airhead ive got better things to do that make up things and post them on the aces high board in hopes of cyber kudos from everyone else who parks their butt in a chair in front of a screen while snacking on potato chips and guzzling beer.
The story in actuality was quite boring and was simply jazzed up through the use of similies and metaphoric phrases. I cordially invite you to Jefferson County, Ohio to be my guest for Ohio's next firearm season in December to have a look-see at these pesky pups. So far in about 7 Coyote kills I have yet to have two that were very similiar with the exception of the basic Coyote traits of a mean looking smile and puffy tail. If i can find some photos (which probably arent even developed yet, ive got plenty of rolls with non artistic photos undeveloped) i'll post the pictures. Ive killed one that looked more like a wolf with a very light gray mixed with white. I have even shot what is called a "coy dog" which is a mix between a domesticated dog and a coyote. the color is a black background with patches of white. This was during spring turkey season and I had not seen one before so i was hesitant to fire on it until it got too close for comfort.
On a side note, the "rust colored blur" wasnt moving all that fast and was easily identified as a coyote with its size. Slow enough for me to draw and take aim with a rather ungainly, large pistol i have yet to kill a deer with. Though I left it and did not have it weighed, it weighed easily 25 pounds. Much too big for a fox. There is any number of colors coyotes can be found, especially in and around Columbus, OH where I have killed several 40+ pound coyotes that have nothing better to do than feed on what precious few deer we have in Franklin County with no natural predators.

things are a little more dangerous in west texas....
-
Where is the rush in that?!? I would on very rare occasion see a coyote as I walked to the bus stop in the 6th/7th grade (a long time ago.) They were always incredibly wary of humans and I loved it when I was able to make the occasional sighting of a coyote. And I was only armed with a book or two and my lunch money. I'm not sure what the rush is in something where there is absolutely no danger to you. And the stupidist thing I've heard in a while is that coyotes are a scourge and need to be killed because they are competition for hunters in killing deer. Maybe if it was a competition for a food source for humans, yeah...but it's just a sport for you.
-
Yer just lucky that coyote didnt know you had lunch money on you Puke.
-
Puke what part of this did you miss: "(not for treehuggers)"
-
a rush from that? try spear fishing with sharks buzzing around you. those can hurt you unlike that big rat.
-
I am a little disappointed in your choice of animals to hunt. The deer population in the U.S. is basically out of control. Coyotes and wolves, like domesticated dogs, are very intelligent animals. Depending on whether that coyote was male or female, it could have pups that are starving to death.
The Grizzly bear in the U.S. has almost been hunted to extinction. I think that less than 1000 grizzlies remain in the continental U.S. The American Bison has started to make a comeback, but with the economy turning sour, ranchers are losing lots of money trying to raise bison herds.
One more point of interest. Anyone here ever heard of the "bottleneck" effect? Even if a certain species of animal makes a recovery from the brink of extinction, that certainly does not gurantee survival. Cheetahs are so inbred, for example, that biologists predict that they will become extinct within 1000 years due to the lack of genetic diversity. A disease could simply come along and kill every single cheetah.
We have alot to learn from animals. There is a reason sharks never get cancer, perhaps we can figure it out one day (and translate this into a cancer treatment/cure).

I was out deer hunting one time Miissippi, when I heard something running through the woods in my direction...I got ready. Then I saw it was two large coyotes travelling together, and I shot one of them with my .270.
Reason I did it? Because I always heard coyotes were destructive to the game. It was an instinct shot. Didn't think about it 'till later. I felt like crap killing an animal just to be killing it. It was a large coyote, about 4' from head to tail, and the most beautiful wild animal I'd ever seen. Only one I ever shot, and the only one I ever will shoot.
I shot a beautiful large Bobcat in those same woods, about 3 years earlier with a .243. Why? When I was out deer hunting?
Boredom?
Need to kill something?
Impress my fellow hunters and friends?
A lot of people would think what I did was a service to the property. I don't feel that way. I feel those critters have more right to be in those woods than I do. They live there all the time, and I'm the intruder. There's probably not that many of them this far east. I know the Black Bear is protected in these parts.
............................. ............................. ............................. ...................
I'm not a treehugger. I understand how coyotes pose a problem out West, and shooting them is a humane method of control. Also, there is a use for their fur, so it's not a complete waste.
I guess it's the way I was brought up in a hunting tradition from an early age to respect nature. I learned from my Dad, my Uncle Clyde, and from my cousin Mike, who is part Indian.
I believe one of the most important decisions a man makes in his life, aside from marriage, is who he hunts with.

-
So what was the reason for sending a high velocity piece of lead through that Bobcats internal organs?
-
I shot the Bobcat because everyone else would, anytime they got a chance to. Most hunters I hunted with at the time, would have done the same thing...mainly with the idea of having a taxidery mount made of it. The bobcat I shot was preserved in a freezer, so it could be used as a mount in the future. I don't think this was ever done, however the idea was to use it as a mount: Bobcat vs. Turkey. What else could be done with it?
I admit it wasn't right to shoot it. That's why I don't do it anymore.;)

Feel free to send those Coyotes up to Wisconsin. Our deer population is so out of control in southern wisconsin, it isn't even funny anymore.
Someone posted about killing the wrong animals. Its exactly that. We kill the one that don't need killing, and don't kill the ones that do.
Kinda like people... :D
No one in here of course :)

I got bored with hunting after a few years - loved shooting, but didnt get off on killing animals - just no fun in it for me.
However if the target animal is dangerous as well... THAT would be fun. :D
-
Coyote is the only animal I'd be willing to hunt. I seriously doubt that it would be for exitement and I don't really think I'd be taking trophy pictures.
Have a dog get killed by them some time and see how cute and fuzzy there seem afterwards. They are a true varmint and I could easily pull the trigger.

Used to live in the mountains of Southern California. Coyote packs filled the night with moans and wails and barks very often. They tended to leave the big dogs alone, but more than one friend lost a poodle or a cat.
I had a pretty big dog and a master escape artist. He often ran the mountain at night. I think he had a coyote girlfriend. :)

If I was a dog, I'd do a coyote.

lol Slimm.. was thinking the same thing.. BTW Curval.. did you wear Depends ? jk
hey, on the coyote thing..
around here it's kinda funny...
a lot of the homes here are vacation homes and only inhabited a few months a year (bastiges)...
anyway, they bring fi-fi the poodle or butch the cat..
theny a few weeks go by and we see the ad on the bulletin board "have you seen my fi-fi/butch?" he/she's missing and we're all upset.. please return if found."
they just don't listen when we tell them to keep little pets indoors or under supervision...
so when Wil-E gets them (which they do) they ask the Animal Control department to 'take care' of the situation...
lol
they forget we're they're living.
sooo.. on the radio when someone puts a voice ad about their lost pet.. the radio station usually accompanies the spot with a sound effect of the coyote wail... wooo woo wooooooOOOOOooo:eek:

Slimm50...I actually was so damn terrified that I forgot all the training they gave me..I was supposed to climb out and dangle myself from the door and let go. But, when the pilot said "Go" I just launched myself out. I started to actually do a bit of a somersault forwards as I fell but fortunately my chute came out and pulled me upright before I got tangled into a mess.
When I originally posted this pic it was in a thread called "How NOT" to jump out of a plane. :D
wlfgng..why are all those people walking? Gimme a chair lift or a helocopter, or something...I'm too lazy to walk up hills.;)
-
those are the back bowls at Highlands..
actually it's better this way because the snow doesn't get eaten up people that can't handle the terrain.
It's pretty extreme, but I only have enough energy to hike up 1 or 2 times a day.
What you're looking at is at the top of Highlands, higher than the highest chair. The top of the bowl was just opened this year for the first time.. even though they've been eyeing it for decades.
Most of the stuff at Snowmass/Highlands/Aspen is lift serviced.. only the extreme stuff requires a walk. At snowmass, the pics I posted earlier, are lift serviced.

A friend of mine published a book called "Alaskan Bear Stories" some years ago. In it was a story about a local hunter out to bag a bear. After trecking all day w/o success he made camp and just incase a bear was around he prepaired himself. Took a slab of bacon and a rope, tied one end to the bacon, the other to his ankle then went to sleep.
Evidently this worked so well that his next trip he was going to try to bag two bears...so he bought two slabs of bacon and two ropes...he is among the 'disappeared' there now ;)
IMO, hunting small game w/ a high powered rifle is tame, use a bow and tactics to get close enough for a kill...THAT takes skill!

No toejam? Tell him I love the book. A college friend of mine (from AK) had a copy of that book. It was very popular for bathroom reading because of the short story format. Great book. He donated that (dog eared) copy of the book to one of his flatmates and I still read it every time I visit.

And all this time I've been squandering my time and resources in the pursuit of sex .

I killed a spider for my daughter in her shower today. He was a real mean looking sucker and kept giving me threatening looks. So I smashed him with my daughter's slipper. What a rush!!

Killing a coyote in your bathroom, now that would be a rush. Especially if all you had was an electric razor, some q-tips, a toothbrush and a comb.
Animals and insects are my friends until they enter my home. Then I send them to hell where they belong.

Hunting poor little defenseless non threatening overgrown rabbits is a thrill?
Well, if you like that, you're gonna toejam all over yourself doing what *I* consider 'kicks':

well... it's not advised but you can skydive out of one... just pull the D ring.
Skydiving is ok I guess but it depends on too many people. you can't do it solo.... not too many times anyway and the authorities here frown on leaving your plane unattended while in flight.

The title did exactly what I wanted it to do, start a discussion about something other than war, bush, iraq, ect, ect. There are 2 pages here of people talking about what they do for fun. That was my point and I was going to let it go at that until it got personal.
I know there are bigger rushes than shooting a coyote, I have hunted bear (spot and stock, no tree stand, and wild boar) I have shot a lot of coyotes when I jumped them while deer hunting. There isn't much of a rush shooting one that is running away, but it is necessary. This was the first time I hid in a bush and used a call to make one hunt me, that is what I ment about a rush. Ya it was only about 4 feet long and a little over 60lbs but when you are sitting in a bush and it comes after you with the intent of eating you it gets the blood flowing.
It only took 1 shot (who ever said it took 2?) And whom ever said deer populations are running rampet? I live in the sierra nevada's in california, deer pop. here are at an all time low, about 10% of what they were 11 years ago. (last big count). There was a huge winter kill in 92-93 when we got 10+feet of snow, that coinsiedes with the huge increase in predator populations, mainly due to a drop in the amount of money you could get for a coyote pelt, this led to a huge percentage of the yearly fawns being born being eaten by coyotes and lions. Since the great people of this state decided that lions were "rare" that they shoud be protected we cant do anything about them, but if we can get the exploding coyote pop under controll the mule deer might make a comeback.
As far as the ultimite rush, I'll take my job anyday.
-
hmmmmm,
low deer poopulation
high percentage of fawns taken - lower deer population
high predator population (likely due to previous "good" year)
and you think that hunting is the only way to control the predator population? I will bet you now that in 2 seasons the predators will be down and the deer will be up.

A ram air parachute is the closest I've ever been to flying anything. And to tell you the truth, due to the anxiety involved untill the parachute deploys correctly I've never found falling out of an airplane enjoyable, I definetely wouldn't pay to do it. Once that canopy is inflated overhead though it is sublime . It looks like an ultralight circumvents that whole uncomfortable eternity before the chute is deployed. I think I would like to give it a wirl someday .
