By any chance are any of those rocks "tufa" rocks? Very light and pourus, they bring about $1-2 a pound in the saltwater aquarium trade.
-
Fark you.
Snow here.
And for no good, as the highest point in DK is some 173 meters above sea level.
Fark you. Fark you again, because I hate you.
:D

Not likely... You're looking at the south eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas...

I live at approximately 735 meters... My guess is that these pictures aren't more than 825 meters...

Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change
things. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a
list to try to give the faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's
incoming freshmen. Here's this year's list:
The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born
in
1983. They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.
Their lifetime has always included AIDS.
Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.
The CD was introduced the year they were born.
They have always had an answering machine.
They have always had cable.
They cannot fathom not having a remote control.
Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.
Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.
They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.
They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.
They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.
They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or
"de
plane Boss, de plane".
They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. even is.
McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.
They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.
Do you feel old yet?
-
err :(
those were the days..

I don't get homesick much. But man, what I wouldn't give for an afternoon in the jeep :(
There's this place, just past El Paso Peak (a few miles down 14 with the all the antenas on it...) A wierd little oasis of sorts. There are a few trees, and some greenery. Nice place to stop for a picnic if you are ever out there. You can see it from the top of the hill.

Winter??, What's that like? Here in the Houston area the only way you can tell it's winter is to look at the calendar. Maybe one or two days between October and April the mosquitoes will sleep-in.
