Title: Why this year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is below par.
Post by: gofaster on March 10, 2003, 10:07:51 AM
Last year it was 3-D photos.  Year before that it was body paint.  This year, its just more of the usual "foreign chick on a foreign beach".  The piece that's supposed to be "The Keys" could've been shot anywhere for as little discernable local landmarks they show: a pool, a palm, a lounge chair. You can get those at the Holiday Inn Titusville.  The only redeeming value of the issue is the Carl Hiassen piece.  He's got Florida/Caribbean down pat!

No offense, but if you are going to let the background of a swimsuit issue turn you off, then you are officially gay.

You are, however, partially redeemed by liking Hiassen.  The one good thing I can say about Fatty is he turned me on to his books a few years back.

Nah, its just that SI had started a trend of bigger and better and newer and fresher and this year they might as well have re-run SI: 1993 Swimsuit Edition.  I would've thought by now they'd have a new schtick to go along with it.  They only had 1 body paint photo and it was interesting, but not nearly as tantalizing as the pics from a couple years ago.  And no 3D either.  I don't have the mag in front of me right now, but I don't recall a "wet garment see-thru nipple shot" or anything like that.  The black chick in Kenya got close, but no cigar.  Its as if SI has become PC.

I think Martha Burke has something to do with it all.
