of his mouth here. First he says the Iraqis are not being as cooperative as he would like, BUT France will not condone war unless inspectors "Can no longer work".
Now he just confirmed to reporters, France will Veto any resolution leading to the use of force...NO MATTER WHAT THE VOTE!!!
I'm speechless......*sigh*

"I've made up my mind; kindly don't confuse me with the facts!"
Mr. Banks, from the movie "Mary Poppins."
France and Germany said even before Blix and El Baradai gave their reports and answered questions last week that they would "not allow" the use of force against Iraq. In other words, it didtn't and doesn't matter what Blix and his inspectors find; Chiraq (Russia and China at least pretend they care about what UNMOVIC says; Germany is just following France's lead) is determined to protect his long-time associate Saddam no matter what. Interestingly enough France has not to my knowledge sought UN support for any of the numerous military interventions they instigated over the last 30-40 years; they still have forces deployed in Africa somewhere I believe. The billions owed France by Iraq, Chiraq's own dubious past direct and indirect dealings with Saddam, and the 2,000+ contracts they have with Saddam's government may have something to do with that.

Good, now we dont have to wait for the UN vote - maybe we'll have something besides "I Want to Marry a Herpes Infected Millionare" on TV this week.

No, no its "Porn Star Married by America Get Me Out of Here Millionaire Idol".

What did you expect... They're the French!
True, Iraq owes France quite a bit of money which I'm sure has "some" bearing on their opposition to war in the Middle East. However, I feel the main reason for their constant opposition to any issue the United States is involved with is purely ego driven.
First of all, France can't let go of the fact that they are no longer a world influencing super power as they were in days gone by when Napoleon the Conquerer was sucking up land in France's name like it was going out of style. The French have an immense amount of National pride which is very commendable in my opinion. If you're not proud of your county, you shouldn't live there.
Times have now changed however. France's contributions to the world in the form of art, architecture, cuisine and winemaking are still valid. But they are no longer the world influencing empire they once were, and quite frankly, I think they're bitter about it. They've had their country handed back to them twice at the hands of outsiders, with absolutely no way of gaining their freedom back on their own without help. That's a hard pill to swollow when you're fiercely patriotic.
At any rate, what's the best way to puff yourself back up and instill a feeling of world importance once again? Try to take on the world's strongest country in a way that will have a bearing on the decisions they make. This is exactly what they've done, and I think they feel important again. I do hope that if something ever happens to their Country again, somebody helps them out. I sure would miss my occasional snifter of Cognac...
BTW, I still say they wear funny hats :-)

News flash :
It's 420 Billion now !
At 1st it was rumoured to be 4 billion (franc but no need to convert 4 billion franc == 4 billion $)
Next I've seen 12 billion $
Now 60 billion $ ...
Why (beware logical explanation !) :
It's an Arithmetic_ progression using the prime number :
4 * 3 = 12
12 * 5 = 60
60 * 7 = 420
Pure logic I swear !

Well isn't this similar to the US position?
UN backing or not, we'll disarm Saddam. With or without evidence, we'll disarm him. And sorry about those documents about his nuclear program that proved to be forgeries, we thought they weren't at the time.
France says 'only last resort' and then says 'violation or no violation, we will not vote in favour of war. And of course all the economic ties we have...oh those don't matter'.
Seems to me to be two sides of the same coin.
