4 Years in Germany in the Bayrueth, Barvaria area I have developed a taste for Miasels Hefe Weissen....
Worse Beer expierience:
:(
On a hot German afternoon, sitting at the puter. My last Miasels Hefe was basking in the coldest nook of my freezer. Wanted to get that icy sliver feel on the first chug... Deeply into my puter game I realized it has been too long since I've checked on my Hefe Baby...
I dart to the kitchen to discover it had developed a nice chunk of ice in the neck and was unable to pour.... no problem. With the wife gone shopping, last beer in hand, I got the grey matter smokin...how do I get past the ice to the brew I love best?.... then "ding" like I've heard many times before...the Microwave! Just a minute or two...remove the cap....tic, tic, tic, tic...something is not right! I removed the heavenly bottle to see that the ice, ever smaller was still in the neck.... no problem...reach into a drawer and remove one each Phillips screwdriver... a REAL Mans tool.....three chips into the ice and with GREAT force beer gushed to the ceiling, Now enters wife, home from shopping...
 Place no Beer into Microwaves!!!!

Pale and flavorless and flat. Nice if you serve it real cold on a hot day but it is supposed to be drunk warm.
You really like this?
Nice yellow can though and I like the logo.
I give it a 5 out of 10.

Anyone ever try Sam Adams Triple Bach? I believe they marketed it as a uncarbonated beer. It came in a dark purple bottle with a cork. Don't know if its even out there anymore
That was some nasty stuff....
However, I am partial to Spotted Cow (New Glarus, WI brewery).

Funny story about Black Butte Porter:
My sister and brother-in-law live in a small town, Dayton Or. (Between McMinnville and Newberg for you oregonians). At the local bar, you always find the same old codgers drinking thed same beer they have for years. My brother-in-law moves into town, and decides to scope out the local watering hole. He orders up a Black Butte Porter. The bartender looks at him kind of funny, and says 'Are you Serious?'
He ends up telling my brother-in-law that he can't sell the stuff, no one wants it. The locals all drink their Hamms (or whatever). He sets up a deal with my brother-in-law to sell it to him for a dollar a pint, in order to get rid of it. So now, that's about all my brother-in-law drinks.

favorite mass produced beer is Newcastle Brown.
Watney's Cream Stout is nice. Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout is nice as well.
I brew my own now. I just use the Northern Brewer kits, so I don't have any of my own recipes. yet. :)
you should talk to ghosth. he brews a lot of stuff, including mead. :)
-
Thanks Nifty.
and ditto on the Newcastle Brown...good stuff.
:D

I really liked the Spaten Octoberfest. But I usually just drink a mass produced American beer like Michelob.

Roger that MiniD.. just about anything from Deschutes.
Walking down the beer aisle in the NW is often an exersice in frustration, with hundreds of handcrafted delicious beers.. on a road trip across I 90 to Boston, stopping for beer in say South Dakota or Indiana.. oh my god.. you get Bud and Bud lite. How can people live there?
-
I have a new favorite I forgot to mention. Deschutes brewery is great, but I think I like Pelican better. Had some Cape Kiwanda cream ale the other day (remnants of a recent trip up to Oregon) that was dang good. Unfortunately, gave away a stout before I had a chance to try it (tsunami stout?)
Check the stuff out if you are in the area.

I brew my own dark and light ales and rarely buy 'commercial' beers. I guess I've becomed spoiled but a well made home brew is probably the best beer you can taste. I don't brew as much because of lack of time, so occasionaly you'll see me with a Steinlager or if I decided to go cheap, Sierra Nevada.
A couple of the great benefits of home brew is that you don't get headache or hangover in the morning and you can make it as strong as you want. My El Pinché Negro Ale that I brew weighs in at 11% alcohol per volume and my lowest, El Huevon Ale is 5.5% alcohol per volume.
And in the U.S., you can brew up to 60 gallons a month.
No fruity or honey ales for me either.

Finally some common ground:)

Hey Ack-Ack....fellow homebrewer here also. Ghosth is the one that kinda got me started on it. I just transferred a nice Munich Helles over to secondary last nite as a matter of fact. Going to the Bluebonnet Brew-off next weekend. Its the largest single site homebrew competition in the state of Texas. Hopefully my brown ale will do as well there as it did in my club competition last month.
Hey AWMAc...what part of OK do you live in? If its anywhere near Lawton, I will have to bring you some samples next time we are in the area visiting my girlfriends grandmother.

How's this for Can-Uh-Duh AWMac?

Carta Blanca is my fav commercial beer. Hard to find here.
I haven`t brewed in a while , but I have a great recipe for American Light beer stuck back someplace. If I can find it I will post.
