Title: Set up for March 14, 2003...
Post by: Sabre on March 12, 2003, 11:15:24 AM
Assuming it's ready on time, I am pleased to announce the debut this Friday, 14 March, of "Winter War: Finland-Russia."  This set-up is build around the update to Kanttori's excellent and standard-setting Finland-Russia terrain.  The planeset will be fairly close to the one MrFork used in the summer Fin-Russ terrain, though spotting those white painted planes against the snow will be a challenge in and of itself.  For those not familiar with this WWII front, it involves the forces of the USSR pitted against co-belligerents Finland and Germany.  In addition to several indigenous Russian aircraft, the VVS will also have numerous lend-lease aircraft types.  I'm sure Kanttori won't mind posting the link to his squadron's web-site, which has a great deal of historical information about this little publicized (at least here in the West) theater of operation.

Actually it is not "The Winter War" (1939-1940)! We are still in our Continuation War (1941 - 1944) and the current time is January-February 1944 when Russians had their big bombing raids against our southern cities like Helsinki and Kotka.

As you all know the Winter War was different "Front Skirmish" (as Soviet Union's history said) before Continuation war and we are speaking in Finland "The miracle of the Winter War".

I inform the link to our wepsites as soon as I have updated there Winter 1944 history and couple of pictures!;)

Thanks for the clarification, Kanttori.  I was unaware of the significance of the term "Winter War" as it applies to the fighting in 1939-1940.  I was using the term as a description, rather than in it's historical context.
