I guess they had to do this in order to prevent the tanks from blowing up when they hit something.
However, I think that having to dodge tree's while ditching (annoying as it is) is VERY historical. :-D
-
Except the fact that catching a wingtip on a tree branch at 20-30mph probably didnae result in your plane exploding in the real world :D
-
BTW, AFAIK, trees, big rocks and beach obstacles are not part of the ground clutter, sheeps and small stones are.

They are now. I think it sucks.

I think there are two separate issues being confused here.
Vehicle object collisions changed to stop the vehicle instead of destroying it. Vehicles can still get destroyed in certain situations such as rolling the vehicle.
This is referring to large objects like trees and boulders, which if you ran into in a vehicle at high speed caused the vehicle to blow up; now, it will come to a sudden stop instead (as it did already at lower speeds). :)You can no longer collide with ground clutter and it can be toggled off.
This is referring to things like the debris caused by downed buildings in a town, the "little white rocks" in some terrains and participants of Niemen may remember the water patches in that terrain. All these caused vehicles to explode on contact. I believe this the "ground clutter" referred to, rather than the large objects like trees and boulders. :)

I have to agree .. i likeed having to atch out flying low.. or lnding a plane somewhere off an airflield...
Plase bring back the AIRCRAFT Exploding TREES !

Trees are part of the ground clutter now. You can disable them by pressing ctrl+c.

Yeah I used to get most of my Tiger kills by parking in some trees and waiting for numpties to try low straffing runs.

Not true. Trees are part of the ground clutter now and can be toggled off. Nothing happens to you if you run into them. I have not encountered boulders yet.

Had a squadmate do a test yesterday regarding trees. He was able to fly his P51 right through the trees at 400+ mph, then slow down and land, driving through the trees like they didn't exist.
All the whining by the gv drivers and now we've got some silly concession to appease them. Here's an idea: Don't drive your tank into a tree, rock, sheep, UFO, ANYTHING! Watch where you drive, and avoid the obstacles. It's not hard.

Hmmm, well if that's the case I am very surprised. No point having trees in that case. I had got used to watching out for them and if I crashed into one and died, it was my own stupid fault. Usually, though, I kept the speed down and just bumped into them occasionally, and only needed to reverse away again.
What I did use to find annoying was the running into debris in towns, or very small objects like the small white rocks, and blowing up immediately.

Hey HT, how about some clarification here cos yet again people are debating the real meaning behind one of HTCs announcements.
I mean bloody hell guys, whats the point of discussing what was meant when we can just ask the fella that posted it? It's not like we're discussing what God meant on page 56 paragraph 4 of the book of Whosits.

actually trees small rocks and sheep are all clutter now...big boulders are more like buildings...get into a gv turn of clutter and look around...you wont see a thing (excet for boulders...maybe...)

Boulders are just the "trees" of that map. They don't appear either.

If all trees became clutters and if they can be turned off, this new patch is a downgrade:
* no more suprises in ground combat -- you can see everything everywhere;
* no more protection against fighters -- trees are good for m3s sometimes;
* if you remember, the new tree feature was a welcome feature in the past.
If you want shot while you are in movement you must deal with obstacles... it is simulation that must recreate some problems from real life. Or htc wants make AH an arcade?
Arcade:
* autocoordinated turns;
* no friends colisions;
* shot across buildings;
and now...
** no trees or ground obstacles :mad:
I don't want a 5 year old like game. I want a good WWII plane and vehicle game. A game where skill and tactics comes first.
An easy game isn't a good game.

I agree with Swoop ... I would like HT to clarify this cause I am confused.
Sheep: They have NEVER caused any of my GVs to explode.
Bushes: They have NEVER caused any of my GVs to explode.
White Rocks: They have ALWAYS caused my GVs to explode.
Trees: They have ALWAYS caused my GVs to explode.
Boulders: They have ALWAYS caused my GVs to explode.
Building Debris: They have ALWAYS caused my GVs to explode when run over at ?? speed. Tigers, prior to this change is a whole other story. No matter what speed you ran over building debris, it exploded.
Tanks Traps (Draqon Teeth): They have ALWAYS caused my GVs to explode.
Now, from what I have read, all these are considered clutter and can be turned off and now don't cause death.
So how was it, prior to this patch, that I was able to run over all the bushes and sheeps without death. Were white rocks, trees, boulders, building debris, and tank traps NOT considered clutter prior to this change ?
From those of us who like to drive GVs, and asked for this change, surely did not suggest that these obstacles not have an effect on planes. These changes should only apply to GVs.

Yes, they were not considered clutter. Now they are.

My complaint with trees was never that they would kill me by running into them (if I am stupid enough to hit that big green thing in front of me, I deserve to die). What I never liked is that I could shell someone from far away and have a perfect view of them, but when I tried to move in close the trees would appear and obscure the view.
-
The real problem wasn't with M3s or M16s, but more with the tanks that have very limited visiblity while driving.
If an M3 going 45 mile/hour hits a tree, well, your dead and thats ok with me. But, when a Tiger tank hits a palm tree at 20 miles/per hour, I don't expect to die.
I would expect to maybe receive some damage and then be given the change to ditch/bail, but surely not die. If a tank were going 10 miles/hour, I would expect the tree (depending upon its size) to, at the very most, stop the tank, but surely not explode.
And for those that are trying to throw the "reality" trump card, I wouldn't believe for a second that any Tiger tank went out on manuvers with just 1 person manning all the tanks guns and trying to drive at the same time, so that is why some of these concessions were asked for.
-
I used to use the trees as cover when hunting Osties in the Hurri IID.
Bring back the trees please, screw the whiney tank drivers.

LOL! Then I demand my 36 fighter perks I lost when my Ta152 started to taxi out of a hangar and blew up when hitting some hangar debris!! Been makin up those credits since about 3 Baltic resets ago!!!

this is dissapointing. Whilst i felt it was silly for tanks to explode when they hit trees or stones or downed buildings I had no problem with these same objects damaging planes.
When it was announced VEHICLES now stop instead of blowing up i assumed this meant all was the same for aircraft as they were not mentioned.I really dont understand why this is such a difficult thing for HTC to implement? isnt it obvious what would or wouldnt wreck planes or tanks?
I really dont understand why they choose to turn the trees into non interactive objects and bother to model vehicles stopping when they hit one. Am i the only one who see's this as just a little absurd?

Hmmmm.
I was driving a panzer towards an enemy base this evening, a friendly was driving along with me. Now I'm weaving in and out of the trees cos it's kinda thick forest.
unidentified friendly "What are you doing?"
Me "avoiding the trees."
unidentified friendly "Why?"
Me "Cos if I hit one I'll stop and have to back out of it and get moving again."
unidentified friendly "Dude, just turn the clutter off."
Me :-/
