Spawned a PT Boat at P152 from A151 on Trinity Map. After destroying the VH and some acks, I got pinged by a manned ack and decided to go. I did not want to spend an hour driving back to A151 and I didn't want to give the guy in the ack gun a kill, so I went back to the spawn point. When I ended my flight, I got a "You have crashed" message. This was on v 1.11 p3
Questions:
1. Why not a "ditch" message instead of a "crashed"?
2. Is there any place to end flight in a PT Boat to get a "successful land" message?
Thanks.

You can always get a successful landing at a port where the PT spawns from or at the carrier group when in close proximity to the group. At airfields that allow PT's you CAN get a safe exit but you have to be damn close to the spawn point.
If you remotely spawn to attack a field or carrier group then you are in enemy territory, no safe landing possible there.

I spawned a pt boat at a friendly GV base today on trinity. I didn't move the boat... I then exited, and got a ditched msg..
One of the vbases.. not sure if it was v62..? or the one near it... in South central area of rooklandia

I have landed PTs at both V bases and A bases, but they have always been friendly, not enemy ones. I've never tried an enemy one, but I will and post here when I get the results.
The way to land at V and A bases, ( at least what works for me):
A base: Go to the area nearest the end of a runway. As you approach, slow down. Slow down some more. You will hit bottom while still a ways from the shore. If you are going fast, instant death! But at 5 mph you will gently "beach" on the bottom. Then hit the tower button and you will land successfully.
You cannot land at a Town next to the A base, I tried.
You can also put it in reverse and back out to go fight again if you want.
V base; I just go as close to the base as possible, and do the same as above, nice gentle landing.
So far it's worked every time. The trick is learning from experience how far out to start slowing down. I have a "rule of thumb" that I'm testing, if it works consistently I'll post it too.

Thanks for the information. It is a shame that when you spawn to a remote location, there is no way to get home without driving for an hour. Your flight is guaranteed to end with your death.
In v11 p4, I ended a flight in a PNZR on an enemy field next to the fighter hanger's spawn point and also got the "You have Crashed" message which gave someone a "free" kill. I guess the enemy had their Black Flag flying - no quarter asked for, no quarter given.
I guess "crashing" complies with HTC v11 p3 statement:
"Exiting on an enemy runway no longer counts as a successful landing."
I would just prefer the more kinder and gentler "You have been Captured" message and know that I will spend the 1/2 second getting back to the tower in a POW camp.
