Post by: maddog on March 13, 2003, 05:23:49 PM
Had NV4200 and scored 13xx in 3d test.....
Replaced with 9700 pro....... 44xx in test
4x turned on went back to 12xx in 3dtest..

AMD 2000  1.6 gig

Game is always at 75 now... drops ocasionally to 66 (monitor set at 75.....

Is there something like NV had where you can change or at least look at freqs....?

Maddog..

By the way got it for 289 at fticomputers.com.........
Also the text is much worse then the NV 4200..... can hardly read field numbers.... something I should do to improve this?

Turn off anisotrophic to clear the text back up.  I run mine at 1600x1200x32 bit with 4xfsaa.

So.....Skuzzy,

Do you think the ATI-9700 is the best card for AH?  I am talking Textures/Graphics first and FPS second.

I am running a Gainward Geforce 3 Power Pak Golden.  I am running Omega Corners custom drivers and getting 68-74 FPS 90% of the time.  VSYNC on.

It would be very cool to see to identical screenies side-by-side.  No this is not an attempt to start a ATI vs NVIDIA Flame war.  I have heard the new ATI is a kickin card.  I have no way to see one where I live.  I have to order everything.

I doubt it's possible but if you happen to have comparison shots I would love to have them.

Thanks, New card not far away, maybe

Had a 4200 gold edition.... ran fps in 60s..... what more could I need...was happy...

Saw ad for 9700 pro for 289 or so.... couldn't resist.......

I can't tell you why... but running 4x antialiasing the game just looks soooo much better.....  happy as clam....

I don't know what is "best" for AH.

With video cards, go with what you like and what works for you is about the best suggestion I would give.

I would caution taking a very slow approach to the current NVidia FX solutions.  NVidia cannot get WHQL certification due to none of the FX line being able to pass DX9 qualifications without choking the performance of the cards to unreasonable levels.

NV35 should change that.  So for NVidia solutions, I would say wait until NV35 is out and pass on the current NV30,31,34 (FX 5xxx) solutions.

Also, I would avoid usinig any of the 4x.xx drivers for NVidia cards.  They really do have some problems.  30.82's seem to be the most stable of the lot.

For ATI, you really should be using the Cat 3.2 drivers they just released.

Thanks SKUZZY!

As I said, Shopping in Blackfoot, Idaho ain't tops.  We do have a few other pluses here but being able to see 2 different video cards installed side by side won't happen here.
