A renewed effort is under way to warn the next generation of teenagers about the risks of using inhalants such as glue, spray paint or markers.
GD Ashcroft and our rights as citizens going down the toilet! Grrrrr!

LOL
yes I agree the young rocket scientist should be free to inhale anything their burnt brains desire....
wouldn't want them breeding in later years anyway..
-
i think the problem with sniffing glues, paints, freon, etc is that todays kids don't know the difference between getting "high" and getting dizzy from breathing poison. that dizzy spell is the first stage of death.
-
gloo am gud.

Hay-seus H! kids start this crap at 12? I don't think I had a clue what drugs were at 12.

We saw a couple of "Drug" films in 1972 in 6th grade prior to moving onto Junior High school.. one stands out in particular, it was about a guy who does Meth and races dragsters...all actors, but the effect was there. I think it got more kids curious than it did deter them.

One of them was Christopher Johnson Bryant, a 17-year-old high school student in Tennessee who died in 2001 from inhaling two cans of butane he had bought from a local store.
I guess that Bryant does not mean brilliant
(sorry for the cheap joke but it sound the same in Freedom ...err French ;))

I don't want my gov't spending public money on things that really are the responsibility of the parents/gaurdians, or to protect us from ourselves. I look at it this way: when stupid people do stupid thingsthat result in their demise, it strengthens the gene pool.
I know, I'm a heartless bastage.
-
Not to sound heartless... but are we getting our panties in a bunch over 0.00025% of the U.S. population?
Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death in children. Automobile accidents fall under this category. In 1998, 5606 teenagers and 2027 children lost their lives in auto accidents.
Second on the list is drowning. (940 in 1998).
Each year in the United States, 200,000 preschool and elementary school children visit emergency departments for injuries sustained on playground equipment (about 1 injury every 2½ minutes).

And that stat is acutally down since the Gov't required all swimming pool manufacturers to have clear labels on their pools.

Are pools considered "playground equipment" where you live?
-
When I was in the Navy in "A" school my room mate died from freon inhalation. He appeared "addicted" as he spent money and or stole to get various things to inhale. He stole a freon tank from a mantainence closet and spent the night inhaling the crap. We found him dead in his bunk the next morning covered in puke with the nozzle in his hand. His skin was grey and his lips were blue. He had urinated all over himself too and the smell was awefull.
The crap people pull just to get a buzz....
He just turned 19 3 weeks before.
He would inhale gasoline, paint, butane etc.........
-
freon displaces oxygen in your blood , sure way to die.

Those too. And there is a safety standards they must pass as well. Big Gov't is good in some aspects such as safety of the masses, bad in other respects. Personally, I see this as good.
-
It's not good at all.
I sat jury duty for some poor guy getting sued because a girl fell off his foot tall playground equipment. The plaintiffs used the fact kids can no longer play on jungle gym equipment as an example of a good thing lawsuits like that had done, as if leading towards a padded room for kids would be the ultimate surrounding.
This nonsense leads to the entitlement attitude that if anything happens to the kids it is the fault of some manufacturer somewhere or some designer that didn't design an injury proof environment.
I'm definately in favor of taking a giant step backwards here.
-
Fatty, Tort reform. Make the party that loses, pay. This will eliminate about 50% of the cases that cost the tax payers $$.
-
Ahh, but on the regulations, are you glad jungle gyms and the high swinging swings are gone forever in the interests of safety?

Maybe you're so stupid I need to spell it out for you Midnight? I *thought* you would understand the point...
-
I dont mind if people want to cook their brain on inhalants... Way i see it thats less competition in the job marketplace... world needs ditch diggers too....
If someone wants turn themselves into house plants im all for it... IT only elevates me on food chain...
How freaking stupid can you people be.. I mean really what is more stupid the people doing the inhalants or those trying to use reason and rational to change these stupid people... This is a classic scenario of birds of a feather... blah blah.... MT Blah, blah blah teleblah...
