Post by: Slow Dog on March 15, 2003, 10:05:54 PM
I was wondering which planes take off and land on Carriers?

SlowDog,

A6M, F6F, F4F, FM-2, F4U, Seafire, TBM, Vals, and a few other.  Can't remember them all.

You can land ANY plane on a CV.  If it has no hook you have to ride the stall and hit the brakes hard when your wheels touch down.

When in the hangar on a Carrier, check the box top left that enables the listing of aircraft/vehicles to show only those planes that are available for launch rather than the "all" list. This also applies to VHs and fields. Carrier aircraft would also have available a landing hook (shift G) to assist you to stop on the flight deck, which you enable on your landing approach.

You can land any aircraft on a CV (even a B17) but those without a hook may run off the end unless your approach is slow with full flap down and you are very nifty with the brakes. :)

(I have landed a B17, B26, and A20 on a CV so far as examples of ones without a tail hook-but only in emergency when I was short of fuel)

:D

I often land on CV's no matter what I'm in and rearm and rejoin the fight.  It beats flying back a sector or two.
