On how I might be able to get this:
to match the shorelines to look like this:
??
due to the vertices only being a huge 1/2 mile a piece, I havent figured out how to get Pearl Harbor to actually LOOK like Pearl Harbor.
Or do you think I should just leave it like it is?

Maybe make the bay area using the water tiles, then use the "lava" and other textures to make the capes and islands within the bay? With those you can get them pretty much "spot on".
You can also take the same approach that was used with the Midway terrain.

Would that hog the fps during gameplay? Also.. whenever I try something like that, runways become mysterioulsy bumpy enough to prevent take-offs... I'll try it though.
