Boy Scouts 1980-1985
Semper Molestus!
-
Guilty as charged!
So, because I happened to grow up in a period that had no major wars(early 1980's), that makes all my attempts at holding an intelligent conversation moot?
So, in other words, we can't discuss abortion since none of us have ever been impregnated? ;)
-
Been shot at twice, had a gun pulled on me 4 times...but not in uniform. Almost went into the service with a buddy who couldn't qualify because of his criminal juvenile record, so I came west and worked for a Defense contractor instead.

ROTF Funked! :D

"Well, uh, I did try the military out once...but I didn't shoot, and I didn't like it."

Correct, my experiences were much more dangerous than the service, at least in the service, you are armed, and with friends that are armed.

I flew F-16s for the CIA....until that regretable incident with the scorpion ended my career.:D

At the risk of turning this into another "Military Service" thread (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54576 )
I spent 5 years in Navy Intel. Not a lot of shooting back then. We often wondered if the Security Police even had ammo.

What about you Dowding? Have you served?...damn man, you sit back and do NOTHING but criticise or snipe. Have you ever written anything constructive, or actually answered a question?
As for me...I was a proud draftee in the Bermuda Regiment. :D No, never got shot at...although a few Rastafarians looked at me in a mean way once.
-
I'm not the one making out I'm some kind of action hero, more heroic than your average squaddie sat in the desert waiting for the green light.
That's disrespectful roadkill - especially in the present circumstances.
-
lol...forget Rip, I asked YOU a question.
You seem incapable of answering most questions, especially when the heat is on...come on Dowding this is an easy one...have you ever served?
-
No. Why?
You don't think Ripsnort's assertion was disrespectful roadkill?
-
Armed service with some exchanged gunfire.. albeit with drug runners.. oh wait.. same combatants :)

Why? Because that is what the author of this thread is asking....and I'm curious.

Some guys don't mind talking about their combat experience. In fact, quite a few vets have written books about their tour of duties in Vietnam.
I remember seeing a documentary about a Vietnam Vet who was walking along a trail, alone, and spotting a lone VC. They startled each other, then the U.S. soldier shot and killed the VC. He walked over to him, searched his body, and found a picture of the VC with his wife and kid. The U.S. soldier put that picture in his wallet and carried it with him for 25 years. Finally he decided to get rid of the picture so he flew back to Vietnam with his family, searched for the woman and girl in the picture, and returned it to them.

Working as security guard detected some burglars once, hid in a room and dialed 911. Mucho squad cars and a dog team showed up. Thats my combat experience up throught the coming Apocalypse.
P.S. caught em too early, pled it down to criminal trespass.

one brother in the Army during Vietnam.
one brother in the Marines during Vietnam
one brother in the Air Force in the early 80's
The only thing left was the Navy ! 5000 men go out 2500 couples come back :)

Didn't we just do this thread?

Never served. Wanted to fly, but couldn't pass the flight physical. My eyes were too bad, I was only 5'2" tall and weighed only 115 pounds at that time. I didn't want to be a pencil pusher in the Air Force Reserve, so I dropped out of ROTC after two years.
My hat's off to those who DID serve. Here's to you, guys!

U.S. Coast Guard 1979-1983
Didn't get shot at much, DID:
Jump out of Helo into 34 degree water to save Fisherman
Board suspected Drug Runner (found squat)
Helped save over 700 people from burning Cruise Ship
Lead search party looking for Bomb at Sub Base after a call during Iranian Hostage Crisis (Last thing you EVER want to hear is "This is NOT a drill!")
And you have not lived untill you have Boarded and Searched a North Korean Canning Factory Ship(they do it all at sea, from catch to can)....I'll NEVER forget the smell of rotted fish guts mixed whimsically with KimChe, sweat and urine.

MCB, Quantico, OCS 2000 - broke both my legs leaping off an Earthen ledge because I convinced myself I didnt need to use the rope. Only had 2 weeks left and after injury couldnt go back...
Strill get angry about it before I fall asleep.

I stayed at a holiday day inn express.

I don't believe you! Show me your muscles-

a better pair of questions might be:
1. "How many of you have kids, wives, relatives or friends you don't want killed by terrorist supporting states, pandering foreign obstructionist politicans and a UN organization incapable of decisive military intervention?"
2. "Would you sanction and support a war lead by an America determined to remove the threats posed to all nations by terror supporting states, pandering obstructionist politicians and the re-establishment of a strong and effective UN capable of decisive military action?"
A war veteran is a jaundiced candidate for your question air-guard. we tend to be ravening blood thirsty salamanders when threatened with peace.

1973-1980 USAF
RC-135 pilot 1975-1980. Threatened by armed MiGs, Sukois and Yakolevs more times than I can count both verbally, visually and electronically.
Fortunately, they never shot. If they had, you poor folks wouldn't be getting to read this. But they cerainly made the hair on the back of my neck stand up many times. Ya just never knew fer sure if they were just kiddin'.

Well...here's the closest I can come...I'm not in the military but I have numerous stories from my family who served...
Great-Grandfather: Lt. United States Navy. (Flew F6Fs during WWII...but he died before I could ask him anything.)
Grandfather: Lt. Col. United States Marine Corps. VMF-323 (WWII and Korea. Flew Corsairs. Retired in 67 I believe)
Grandfather: Col. United States Air Force. 457th FG (Flew F-4 Phantoms in Viet Nam and was a Flight Surgon. I think he commanded as well...not sure.)
Step-Grandmother: TSgt. United States Air Force. (I can't remember what she did or where she served)
Uncle: Capt. United States Marine Corps. (I also cannot remember his unit, but he flew Hueys in Viet Nam and was on the verge of promotion when he was killed.)
Uncle: SSgt United States Air Force. (Don't remember his unit...but he served in Desert Storm working on F-16s)
Father: TSgt United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves. (Served in Viet Nam and Desert Storm. EMT during the '90 and reservist when called to Kuwait. Got out of the Reserves before being called back as his didn't want to leave two young boys and a wife behind again.)
I know it doesn't count...but it's something...

I found your post a bit insulting.
I am a cop. Been shot at three times. Had my gun on one man when I saw the exit wounds and decided I need not fire. And once pulled the trigger and saw a man die by my own hand three feet in front of me.
Have I served in your eyes?
-
Another pat myself on the back and get me over thread.. done in bad taste I might add.

I was only 5'2" tall and weighed only 115 pounds at that time
hey that should be perfict for the air force they want small little guys,,big boys like me wont fit in a cockpit of a jet,,heck im too tall for most cars that aint made in america,,lol,,rx7,,haha,,i tried to drive one,,,my head stuck out the sun roof,,and im only 6'5"
as for military service,, my dad,,grampa,,uncles have all served for there country and paid for the peace i have enjoyed for so many years{they fought in the hopes that i wouldnt have too},allmost thought about navy,,got a uncle who is a chief,,even got me on a boat ride on the carl vincent from hawaii too cali,,what a ship!!
but untill the draft opens up again,,there is no need too call people lazy{or look down on them} just because there not in the military or been shot at,,hehe, and doesnt mean us popcorn eating couch potatos cant kick some a@$,,lol,,,,i got a freind who was hit in desert storm,,and plenty of freinds i know that are in the military,,,i dont think you will find anyone on here that hasnt been linked to war
i agree there are alot of mouths on here that errk real military types,,,and its hard for them too see what war does,,but i have freinds and family killed ,,,and none of them want me to go and do the same thing my family has been doing for thousands of years,,kill and die for war,,lol,,maybe they hope ill break the chain of death,,and play music or somthing that is worth my life and time instead of dieing like the rest,,and im glad there are people out there dedicated to protecting us{everyone in the military my hats off to you},,,and if my time came and they needed me,,i would go,,but untill the draft opens,,ill stay home
