boy, I'm guessing the Ben Franklin, knocked her out of the war, but 2 or 3 of the other Essex class carriers were treated equally roughly by the Japanese

According to the caption for the same photo in "In Action - Essex Class Carriers" pg 42, it is the USS Bunker Hill, CV-17 after being hit by 2 kamikazes while off Okinawa 11 May 1945.

I see I am not believed.;) The 3 photos of the Bunker Hill have US Gov. ID numbers.
