I was thinking last night, as I looked up into the night sky.
Will the U.S. Attack under the light of a full moon? I know in the first gulf war, one of our advantages was the fact that we could fight effectively at night.
Will the troops wait until a new moon is over Iraq? When will this happen? Or do you think it's not that important, and we'll be going anyway?

if the target isnt really densely defended by optically guided AA you might risk it, or just use stand off weapons. The CNN page talks about a simultaneous "big boom", which sounds like all the air assets, stealth or not, are going to be out there.

The next new moon is sometime near Apr 1st.

I don't think the 48 hour ultimatum was given without a careful consideration of the logistics involved in the invasion. I think it'll begin on the 49th hour.
-
I saw a discussion about this on CNN, but I forget who was interviewed. Some retired military general. He said the full moon didn't make for the best circumstances, but waiting would be worse.

Ain't got nothing to do with the moon or weather. I'm telling ya it will start the the moment the Academy Awards show begins their broadcast.
WELCOME TO THIS YEARS ACAD..... we interupt this broadcast to bring you a special news bulletin... :D

Darn, when I saw the thread title, I thought we were going to attack the moon as well as Iraq :(
That would have been some news there.

That'd be a sight to see, the lift-off of hundreds of rocket-troopships screaming skyward. To witness from earth the ebb and flow of battle as craters scar their way across the surface of the moon. Those with larger amateur telescopes would be able to catch the occasional artillery fire sending a plume of dirt hundreds of feet into the air at night. Waiting by the TV to see the delayed live reports from the front..

dudes...you really think the Moonpeople would just sit by and let us attack? they are still pissed about our unauthorized landing.
