Is it just me or did the guy giving the speech look like a phoney? I wonder if the airstrikes killed the real guy, and they put the double on TV to convince the troops and public that he was still alive.
-
Somethinmg wasnt right about that guys whoever he is.
-
Why do you say that Grun? I think there are several indications on that being the real guy.
-
Well, they said it was a live broadcast, but several people said it was blatantly taped.
Obviously I'm no expert, just repeating what CNN reported.
-
Something has been wrong with that guy for along time.
Saddam calls the attack a crime and countries take notice, but when he invades all the countries around him and gasses people no one mentions crime?
-
That's normal. It's like an orgy. Cool if you do it, but you wouldn't want to see your mom at one.

My first impression is simply that it doesnt look enough like him, plus I have never ever seen him wear glasses in public. Plus he mentioned no specfics other than the date - he is a crafty sob and its possible he taped a bunch of dates, he made no stements about the USA targeting residential areas - the place hit was a nod descrit house on outskirts of baghad so why pass up propaganda opportunity, he said nothing about an attack on baghdad itself.
Now seeing as there is no proof of his death I think we must assume that he is still alive.
Buut that guy just dont look right for saddam - he did sound pretty good though.
Just a feeling.

It's about politics and power-playing, not right and wrong.

Well, the fact that he is wearing glasses, and he is reading from what obviously is a rather normal hand written block of papers, the fact that he does look tired and beat, and the fact that the speech is so short...all that speaks heavily in favor of that being the right guy. If they were using a double, they would probably have focused alot on those details to make it "look right". And besides, this guy normally talks for hours. If it was a pre made speech it should have been longer.

Maybe he is wearing glasses to hide the blue-eye, hehe

Funked, I read yesterday that they (the CIA?) have a DNA sample from one of Saddam's relatives. How they came by this was not reported. The sample is to be used to compare DNA with that taken from Saddam's body to make sure it's really him.

I guess I'm not the only one who wasn't convinced: http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/03/20/sprj.irq.intel/index.html

Iraq TV was off the air at 8:00a (Iraq, local time) as evident from a live feed at CNN last night. In the same breath, the news announcer said that Compass Call C-130's were on their way in to broadcast on TV and Radio frequencies. I'm speculating that this tape may not have originated in Iraq and may not have even been taped by Iraqis. There are many possible explanations.

White House is saying it was him.
They did a voice print analysis, but they believe it was a tape.
