Title: Wounded women and Children on CNN
Post by: muckmaw on March 20, 2003, 09:25:37 AM
Way to play into Saddam's propaganda machine, CNN.

A nice close-up of an Iraqi Child with an angelic face, surrounded by cameras.

Was he hurt in the raid? Does he have the flu?

It does'nt matter once the media gets their hands on it.

Pray for the civilians. Pray for our soldiers. Pray for the kids.

But don't help Saddam spread propaganda, if that's what this is.

Just wait until Saddam starts setting hospitals and day care centers on fire.  Camera's pre-positioned of course.

I'd love to see a reporter with the balls to say exactly that.

{Location, Media pool, plaza in hotel, Bagdad}

Lead walks in....

"Okay, we got 10 dead US Soldiers over on 4th and Allah, I need a volunteer to go follow up on it and report a story..."

{Silence}

"I SAID I NEED A VOLUNTEER!"

{Glumly, a very young and inexperienced reporter raises his hand}

"Okay, Luke, take it...now, I also need a volunteer for a story on an injured child from US airstrikes, this happened in the Hussein district east of 12th, volunteers?"

{20 reporters rush with hands waving toward the Story lead}

What would have me do?

Go to a protest? I don't believe in it, and unlike a college student, who's living off mommy and daddy, I've got a job to do to support my family.

So, I'll keep praying, thank you very much.

You can go burn a flag, sing Cumbaya and be a human shield. I've got work to do.

And your work is praying?

No insult intended, but I think your actions will have more of an effect if you, say, donate half of your paycheck to a fund for the families of US soldiers killed in the Gulf War II.

Of course praying is nice, and a nice way to show sympathy and attempt to influence events so that less body bags are returned to the US. My point is that there are also more physical things that can be done that can prove more valuable than prayers. Of course that'd mean giving up material riches and would take more of a toll on your life than praying, but it would complement it nicely, no?

Note: this is not a sarcastic comment. Am just saying that actions speak louder than words and that a hungry child rather would have a sandwich than someone hoping for the best for him/her. Or if possible both things.

I still wonder what happens when 2/3rds of the rooftops in Bagdad start shooting bullets and missiles skyward.  What's more likely to strike Iraqi civilians... 8 Lazer guided bombs or 1,000,000 rounds blindly fired skyward.

Agreed, Santa.

Of course, we both know, I cannot afford to donate half my paycheck to anyone. I'm barely getting by with this crushing mortgage. But what I did do was spend $80.00 and bought a care package for a soldier I do not know. I went to the store, and bought all sorts of things I'm told guys in the military need. I packed it up and sent it to:

Commanding Officer
Command Religious Ministries Department
USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71)
FPO AE     09599-2871
Attention:  Chaplain D Lantz  (AIR/S or FS)

Several members of the MAW did the same. ( I know, the salamanders sent me checks and made me do the shopping. Me and my big mouth).

I encourage all to do the same.

Alright muckmaw.

A big and sincere for talking the talk AND walking the walk, something exceedingly rare today.

Nice going, and give my regards to your fellow MAW's.

Thank you sir...will do <>

BTW, BGBMAW was the first guy to volunteer his money for the effort.

Sure, he uses the F-Bomb. Sure, he is emotional. Sure, he does'nt use paragraphs. But he's got a big heart.

Watch and learn exactly from what?  Our bombing or the Iraqi's surrendering?

Agree.

Lets show the pretty version of the war with guided bombs hitting HUGE stockpiles of chemical weapons and fleeing Iraqi soldiers.

Next we shold show pics of US Marines giving candy to smiling Iraqi children with waving american flags.

The truth just hurts to much to be shown.

Puke-

That address is quite valid. Your package is really cheap to ship to that APO, also. Once it gets there, it's inspected and then flown out to the ship on a military transport.

(No porno. They confiscate it).

You probably won't  hear from the recipient for 5 weeks at best. Plus, they're kind of busy right now.

Thanks for making the conrtibution. <>

AronL-

There is a difference between news and propaganda. If the children of Iraq are suffering (More than they were under Saddam) of course my heart goes out to them. As a father, I never want to see a child of any nationality injured.

My question is, is the child in the hospital because an errant bomb hit his room, or is he getting his tonsils removed?

Certain networks, and the media in general are very quick to produce these images on the television. Are the victims of SH's propaganda machine? Who knows. Does it matter? Many people don't stop and think. They see the child, and automatically blame the big bad USA.

My point is, do your own thinking. Don't let the media make the decisions for you. It's not always easy, but it's important.

My prayers go out to our soliders and the innocent civilians of Iraq.

Most definately... I have it from a reliable source that US Marines are eating small children in front of their mothers!!  ...And not even bothering to COOK them!!  Oh the horror!!

Heres a big old eyeball thingy for you brainwashed souls who think that disagreeing with what your government does makes you appear learned.  :rolleyes:

Now if you'll excuse me, Im attending a gathering.  Me and a few of my collegues have decided that we dont want to work today, so we're going to protest the protestors.

I took down the address, thanks!  However, I can't do anything about this until Monday because I'm finishing up work today (Thurs) so that I'm free to be in a seminar all day Friday and Saturday.  I'd like some ideas of what to send, so if anyone that has knowledge about this can e-mail me suggestions please do so:

No, I tested it.

I fired a gun straight up and the round didn't fall back into the barrel, so it must have evaporated.
