Title: Speculation please.
Post by: hawk220 on March 20, 2003, 12:32:41 PM
When the US initiates its 'shock and awe' asskicking and we occupy Iraq, AND there are no retaliatory terrorist attacks on US soil, what would that mean?

That we've rounded up the hundreds of supposed cells that were lurking in the US over the last year?

or could it be that they weren't here to begin with?

thoughts?

Iraqi do not have any agents here and even if they had - those would not be reliable and certainly would not risk their lives for the doomed regime, not being religious fanatics.

Religious fanatics, on the other hand, hate secular socialist Iraqi regime as much as they hate us. They would not do anything to "avenge" it - especially now that our security is heightened and we are all alert.

Of course their leaders wil use Iraq for reqruiting and propaganda purposes. All the terrorist fallback will come later - maybe for generations...

Kanth

because if you watch the media masturbation on tv, every other phrase is 'shock and awe' and retired generals on all channels are saying same.

John,

if they are so disorganized they can't even do something as simple as blowing up a nuke power plant how were they able to fly planes into buildings?

Hawk I can stomach about 5 minutes of television media before having to turn it off (or most tv for that matter)

what situation in Iraq calls for "Shock and awe" mass bombing in ordrer to hit saddam and his closest military? meanwhile leaving up electrical and water for the civilians so they wont' be put out.

never made any sense to me but if someone can explain how mass bombing in a war such as this that calls for extreme precision to hit a very small amount of people embedded in civilians, meanwhile gathering intel about WMD with all of the specialists for bio and chem they have brought in, with all of the surrenders that will be happening, I will listen with interest.

This has to be the most complicated war we have ever faught both politically and tactically, I can't see 'shock and awe' as part of it.  Unless we're going to hit the turks who are heading for the kurds.

hawk , any idiot can fly a plane into a building, the trick is to miss the buildings and make a good landing on a runway.

that was well put, miko

Kanth, you raise an interesting question,

Unless we're going to hit the turks who are heading for the kurds

with the power vacuum in the North and the Turks could move in to Kurd area, would we try and stop them? the US said that Turkey should NOT move  in to the Kurdish area, anyone think we would fire on Turk forces?

That was a joke btw, there is no evidence that the turks are actually heading in after the kurds...lets just hope it doesn't happen that way.
