Title: Playing FB ?
Post by: Wlfgng on March 21, 2003, 10:43:40 AM
forgetting to put time in AH?

I'll always come back 'home' to AH but I'm having fun in FB.. just wondered how many of you are doing the same and if there are any AH/FB online 'squads' teams, fav's whatever...

I've been doing almost exclusively offline stuff but was thinking of mixing it up a bit

I've been spending a lot of time in FB offline, just trying to get the engine management stuff right for some planes... sure is easy to destroy the 109Es engine because it doesn't have auto pitch control..

When I do play online, I go to hyperlobby and find fights there- the coops are a lot of fun, especially when they host full difficulty games.

http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz

There's a lot of good hosts there- and lots of bad ones. If you download and install it, there's a connect/select game window. Scroll down to Forgotten Battles and click connect. If it asks for the path to your game, you have to browse for it and double click the il2fb.exe.

When you get in there, join any game you like. Dogfight rooms are the first set of rooms. You will notice in the dead center of the screen it says "Dogfight Room" Click that, and it will turn to a drop down menu. Click "Cooperative Room" and you will go to a new screen with coop games about to start. Clicking on a blank area in the rooms will put you in that slot.

If you have any questions about the program, put 'em here or ask me if you see me there.

You mean the hurry up, login, and wait routine?

For the coops, pretty much... there will sometimes be nights I get lucky and there's a couple good coop hosts that will run missions.

I don't know if they moved over yet, but the VEF and things like that were organized squad wars for Il2... but with the release of FB just now occuring in Europe, it'll probably be a while before the organized events move over.

There are quite a few dogfight servers with "historic" matchups up, but a lot of them are using that damned new mountain map that is killer even on my system. It's a fantastic map, but for whatever reason (poorly optimized, or the FB engine just can't draw high polygon terrain, or too many of those multi-layer forests, I dunno..) it is just SLOW. and this is on a GF4/Athlon XP 2000+ system.

But yeah, it's pretty much go there and hope there's a good coop about to launch or look for a good dogfight host. Now you can find out the settings the host uses before joining by clicking on a button labelled info next to the host's name.

Most of 'em will put something like "41 mountain map server" and the list of difficulty options they have will be underneath it.

DR_Hangar always runs good missions.  Sunchaser (remember him?) plays in his missions alot.  Always full real settings good connections too.

sweet.. I'll probably log in this weekend and check what's up.

Udie that could be a blast.  Depends on whether we could get people to show, decent conx, decent opponents etc

I hope they come up with some kind of organized arena or something similar eventually.  The game simply rocks

squad events would be cool.  as it is I can't stand the waiting for the game to start only to find the realism settings suck.

alot of that could be avoided if we had squads, or even just a roster board where you could post missions a day ahead. with a list including mission description, realism settings, start time, etc.

and a sign-up roster, you reserve your spot in the mission you want to fly and meet at the start up time.

it might make it worth flying online. as it is it's just to much waiting to usually end up in either arcade settings or a no icon, dot chasing festival.

if anybody gets something like this together please drop me an e-mail.  right now I have no time to fly and only 1 day a week to check the boards here, but this job will wrap up in a month or 2 and I'll be looking to find a suitable way to use FB's multi-player
