Hi all,
I was flying tonight in Frame 3 of Low over the Ardennes. I was following a squad mate who had just killed a Bf-109. I was 180 yards behind him when I blew up. :( I checked the film and there was NO one near me, NO FLAK (we weren't near a base), I didn't hit my wingman, I hadn't fired at anyone so it wasn't a killshooter thing. Just kablooey, and I was dead.
This isn't a complaint, but I was just wondering about this and more of a notice about a strange occurrence.

Was it anything like this ?

No, I simply erupted into a fireball in mid-air, and got a notice that I had crashed. Two squaddies saw it happen, there was nothing around us. I reviewed my film and saw NOTHING. No debris, no bullets, no FLAK.
Very weird.

Hmmm... in Frame 1, I thought I had been shot down by fighter escort. When I watched the film later, I noticed that none were nearby. I had to watch that film over and over to figure it out... it was a tailwheel falling off the Mosquito that I was engaging; it came off the Mossie, hit me, and took my whole rear fuselage off. It took several viewings for me to finally see it, it happened fast.
It could be what happened to you. Did you mean that you were 180 yds behind the Bf109 or 180 yds behind your squaddie?

180 yds behind my squaddie. We must have been several hundred yards from the particles of the 109, but I'm guessing that must have been it. Maybe those tailwheels are extremely explosive (would have to be to down a Tempest).

That's exactly what I said when it happened Jason. Apparently you've been there before. :(
