Title: Lake Arena
Post by: NHFoxtro on May 08, 2001, 08:40:00 PM
I've been getting some complaints on this Arena from the squad as far as fun wise, and I was wondering if anyone else was. I know Pyro, I think said that they were going to switch tours on the Island terrain and this one,but I don't know for how long, I'm not sure.I'm showing lower numbers in my squad this month than ever, because they really don't care for this terrain.

Basicly, with the reason up above, this terrain is not working with my squad. ( in the sence that some of the don't like it)  I was wondering if any other squads were suffering the same neglect of participation in the game.

If this thread was discused before. I did not see it. Just give me the previous thread and I will reply (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I like it a lot better than the one with the islands.

I prefer other terrains over this one.

But it won't stop me from flying.

This one is much preferrable to the lake map. I actually meet planes over land heading for a field, instead of dweeb cv'ing ack hugging their way everywhere. Personally, I think that due to the cv dweebing the lake map isn't very good.

Now, the o.ld one, the pre cv map, anyone remember that one? Which initially had a1 at 10 (and that started off a1 syndrome thingy)?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I like this map more than the islands map, and it seems to me that I'm seeing more of my squaddies up lately then I have in a while.  Or maybe I'm just flying more?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

S!

This map is favoring more GV's and fights are at higher altitude.GV's have increased a lot and Attack missions are a must now to keep the base up.Also Buffs seem to operate more, since there are elevated fields within reasonable range of the front.
Only thing I dislike is the bottom corner.U get banged there all the time.Well..we have been banged even at upper corner  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)But definitely we could use a new map with the 1.07...

This map is better than the CV_zap_U_dead_ack_gotcha_map. ..

yep... i agree.  without the carriers playing as a real factor there is nothing but a bunch od useless fields.   You might have 4 fields deep with de-roofed fighter hangers.   Long flights to find that the enemy field is devoid of cons except osties.   a real drag.

with the carriers you have in effect "fields" that stay open for fighters longer and the fight concentrates more evenly around them.  here.... it is gangbang or be gangbanged.

i hear that field capture is on the "short list" of bugs to be fixed.

I've only played two terrains, island and lake.

The people I play with don't care much for the Lake terrain.  They say it channels the fight too rigidly.

I like the map for GV's.  Anything that widens the vehicles involved in the conflict is a good thing, imo.  However, I can't understand why there is not a new terrain with every tour.  There are apparently some very talented terrain builders in the community.

Maybe someone could enlighten me.  What is so difficult about HTC playtesting and deploying a new terrain every month?

Side note:  Take a close look at the placement of factories/cities/HQ in this map.  The city for the NW corner is over a full quad further south than for the NE.  The same sites for the South are almost unapproachable.

Overall, I think that BOTH terrains are seriously flawed.

But I'm still playing in them  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Lake sucks, Ndisles is okay, but we need a bigger choice. WB's beats AH hands down in this dept.

I'm with dega on this one, can someone please tell me why we dont have a new Map for every tour.  Hell, I dont want to sound patronizing, but for 30 bucks a month, i WANT a new map every tour.  I think we deserve "something new" every tour.  Ok -  maybe its a tall order for a new map every single tour, but we have plenty of talented map designers out there, put them to use!

I actually think that the lake map is better for no other reason than you can use the GV's more, i havent tried GV's on the other maps but the last time i did  or was talking to someone who did, there drive to the nearest base took ages. The new lake map is better because it places the GV's within a sencible driving distance, far enough away to make you work a bit and give defenders a change to take off and defend, but near enough to make the possibility of a airfeild taken over solely by GV a more likely outcome without a hours drive.

Other than that, if the other map was to be changed in this respect, i have no preference. i say get rid of the V bases in the old map and make them like the new map, then itll be perfect  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

This has been asked and answered many times in the past.  HTC has yet to receive a map that is large enough and evenly laid out enough for a main arena map.

I have mixed feelings about it.

It is not bad, but unbalanced. The southern country is in the worst position by far. No hi alt fields, all premises lined up.

What I would certainly change is the three moutain ridges and replace them with water space. So three bigh islands. And make an extensive use of mountains, allowing only scarce flat surfaces. That would mean more cannon fighting (fun for GV's and airplanes alike) and having to look for the right spot to ditch.

Cheers,

Pepe.
