Isn't it a crime......
That Clinton destroyed our capability for military action and decimated the intelligence apparatus so severely that operations in Afghanistan and Iraq have gone sooooooo poorly?
:D
Maybe Faux News can explain this phenomenon to us?
-
I'm assuming you mean #3. :D
Main Entry: dec·i·mate
Pronunciation: 'de-s&-"mAt
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): -mat·ed; -mat·ing
Etymology: Latin decimatus, past participle of decimare, from decimus tenth, from decem ten
Date: 1660
1 : to select by lot and kill every tenth man of
2 : to exact a tax of 10 percent from
3 a : to reduce drastically especially in number b : to destroy a large part of
Sorry... I hate the word. It's right up there with flammable and inflammable on my lists... ;)
-
...to select by lot and kill every tenth man of...
Hey, they used to do that in the British army in times of extreme levels of dissertion.
Didn't realised it was the definition of the word rather than an application of it.
-
Where have all the Clinton bashers of the past gone? ;)
-
Clinton didn't exactly hurt the military, he mis-used it (as though he'd know how to do so properly in the first place).. it's the Intelligence community which gives the military the information it needs to fight with precision that Clinton so openly obliterated. Fixed by Bush of course, causing an uproar of whining and gnashing of teeth.
....don't hate me weaz :D

I must say I spent 8 years being appalled. 8 years going to work knowing some ******* in the WhiteHouse who I HAD to call boss was going to bed every night and giggleing at how good a job he was doing a F***ING UP the Military. I'm very happy NOW, and I like it. "
He he....BUSTED! :D

LOL!
Weazel.. you're confusing people not arguing with you as meaning you have a valid point. To be honest... there's no real reason to. You defeat your arguments well enough on your own.

Clinton did diminish our military to a huge extent. We have 1/2 the forces in the gulf as we did in the first gulf war.

absolutly. who could suport that POS. I mean I could hardly stand it, 8 long years of relitive peace and a booming economy  ....BORING.

Sorry, goofy .... but taking out Iraq (or Afganistan) efficiently isn't a tell-tale sign that our military wasn't weakened in the previous administration and that it's as potent as ever. I guarantee you if things got hot between us and a major power we'd feel it.

Right... thats exactly what I meant then too. You don't have to remove hardware to **** with the military. Mis-use (Abuse) he did.... and I'm still glad he's gone.

Ahh yes Arlo, very true. BUT.. we still have all these big sticks in the ground all over N. Dakota, Wyoming and Montana that prevents them thar major world powers from gettin too uppity. Mutually assured destruction may not be at the forefront these days... but it's still very very in the minds of anyone who might suffer from "itchy-red-button-finger syndrome" :) .

Don't bother tumor. Weazel only hears what he wants to hear. He only says things he himself cares to see.
He doesn't realize that very little of the military over in Iraq right now served when clinton was in office. He doesn't realize that clinton only viewed the military as a photo opp or a chance for good publicity and would piss all over himself if it didn't work out the way he'd planned. He doesn't realize just how bad clinton was with military. Hell, he probably thinks that smart bombs were developed by clinton... and not the private defense corperations that he is more than willing to slam.

IIRC Tumor has been in about 16 years.
What about the Senior officers...or do you think OCS commisions Generals right out of school?
What about Non-Coms?
Based on the intelligence level displayed in your post you probably do.....

WJC *still* appreciates your support Mini-D...maybe you can contribute to electing Hillary if she runs for president.

Are you really this stupid or do you try extra hard? You're actually suggesting that a voluntary mass exodus of the military (career or otherwise) in protest of administrations coming to power that have, as part of their platform, a policy dedicated to cutting the defense budget to the bone is the most logical action to take? That has to be one of the dumbest attempts at making a "point" I've ever seen anywhere. Congrats. :D

Ah weazel.. don't argue based on stupidity... try something different for a change.
I did 8 years in the military myself. Not many re-enlist. Check on the enlistment times weazel. You may also want to check on the average age of the combatants. I do believe you have no idea what the military is really made up of.

Weazel, did you crawl in a hole in January 2001? ;)
The U.S. military budget request for Fiscal Year 2003 was $396.1 billion
The U.S. military budget request for Fiscal Year 2002 was $343.2 billion.
The U.S. military budget request for Fiscal Year 2001 was $305 billion And Congress had increased that budget request to $310 billion.
GEEEE Weazel, wonder why they had to up it? :D
This was up from approximately $288.8 billion, in 2000., CLINTONS LAST YEAR
http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/ArmsTrade/Spending.asp
Yes Weazel, good thing Bush increased spending in the last 2.5 years. ;)

Why are you attacking me Arlo....it was Mini-D that suggested a "mass exodus"?
Spin, Spin, Spin.

Rip, Average annual military spending during peacetime Cold War (excluding Korean and Vietnam War years) = $285.4 Billion. (http://www.cdi.org/issues/milspend.html)
In FY 1999, the United States spent over $276 billion on its military.
This figure includes outlays of the Pentagon and the Department of Energy nuclear weapons programs plus more than $27 billion spent on the intelligence agencies--about half on tactical military intelligence and half for intelligence agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency.
With this budget, the Pentagon fields a military force without rival in the world. It sustains over 1.4 million men and women in active duty plus another 870,000 in the reserves.
Standing forces include 10 active Army divisions, three Marine divisions, 13 active and seven reserve Air Force fighter wings, and 12 aircraft carrier battle groups (11 active), plus around 7,200 deployed nuclear warheads capable of being launched from the ground affixed to MX and Minuteman missiles, by sea from Trident submarines, and by air from B-52 and B-2 bombers.
The Pentagon has basically completed its post-cold war drawdown and, with minor reductions, plans to sustain this force structure indefinitely.
The Pentagon budget also includes over 770,000 civilian employees, almost 40% of total executive branch civilian personnel.
Looks like Bubba held the line ehh? With the collapse of the Soviet Union do you really think we needed to keep defense spending at the level of the Reagan years?
WJC and Hillary appreciate your support Mini-D.

Your about 2 years behind the times Mini... enlistments are meeting quota's and re-enlistments (especially USAF) are far more common than people think... more have reenlisted under my watch than have seperated.
Mini I expect you have a disgruntled attitude towards the military.. most who seperate do with the exception of those who find good paying jobs that coincide with the end of an enlistment (something not all that common). Overall, it's an awesome career and I have no regrets. There are some major sacrifices as you apparently know well, and I never knock anyone for leaving, to each his own. However... your view seem's to stem from something I've not seen. I'd say the vast majority of leadership, down to Squad Level, of us taking part in current crisis operations were in fact "around" for Desert Storm... there's LOTS of experiance, trust me.
-
I do not have a disgruntled attitude towards the military. I have experience with it. I've always viewed that experience as irreplacable.
Retirement benifits were reduced during the 90's. The incentive for re-enlistment were even less than when I was in. I have not brought up a "he drove them away" argument... simply that turnover in those circumstances is great.
As far as re-enlistments over the last two years go... I'm trying to think about what has drastically changed since then.
Its not about being disgruntled. It is simply about eroneously trying to take credit when no real participation occurred.

BTW tumor... I've never said that everyone left... that's a slight embeleshment by the other party involved.
I'll also say that your experience in the Air Force (I served there too) is not indicative of the average infantry experience. The Air Force is quite the minority in the U.S. Military. Once again... look at the average age of the combatants (Both officer and enlisted). Do you really think its much over 21 for enlisted and 25 for commissioned? From the guys in combat?

I know two I served with in 1984 are still in the Army....both SFC according to People Finder at Military.Com (http://www.military.com)
Hurry back ya right-wing carpet-bagger.

Majority... no
Platoon level... probably average.
Company... easily over 21/25.
