Hi

Does File Indexing slow down your PC (XP) at any time, especially when running games?  Therefore should you have it on or off?

It uses memory, CPU cycles, and disk space. If you've got all three to burn then leave it on, but CPU cycles are at a premium with AH, so I'd suggest turning it off. I haven't found much use for the indexing service anyway.

Thanks qts, I thought as much.  I have an Athlon 2200+, 512Mb 2700 DDR, 128 GeForce 4 4200 yet XP still uses a helluva lot of resources and indexing sure doesn't seem to help.

I setup my box according to Black Vipers "Gaming" matrix. My system is pretty robust to begin with and I still saw a system wide improvement in performance.
