BBC relayed speech this am in which Saddam referred to reports of his death to be "greatly exaggerated". He also claimed that victory was "very close", but did not say for which side.
-
I saw the speech, but didn't see him make any reference to the rumors of his death.
It was basically just a bunch of "we will kick your butt". You guys suck. We're killing them all.
No references to anything since the opening night that wasn't known weeks ago. For sure he would have crowed about the POWs.
My opinion: Memorex.

Ditto the memorex

"Saddam Claims to be alive". That's a great title for a thread.
The speach made reference to our units moving around their cities (not wanting to engage in urban areas). This is something that happened after the battle started and well after we dropped a bomb on his head.
Dunno... the speach had enough references that I'm sure the state dept feels he's still allive, though injured.

LOL Rasker, nice :)

In his latest he was praiseing an Iraq army unit that has for the most part surrendered.
Seems his intel is a bit off or his prerecorded tapes have a bit to much BS in them.
-
He is dead or very badly injured. He makes statments that conferm just that. He praised the 11th and 51st div comanders for their bravery. Both the commanders and divisions surrendered with out firing a shot. He says nothing about the 3rd div strong defense of basra. He says nothing about the POW's or freindly fire incidents. The speach brodcast today was filmed after the presidents speach saying your time is up and before the bombing of his palace.
Sadamn is satans squeak about now!

Did anyone see the Iraqi military press breifing? No really.. it was funny in a sick sort of way.
"First the infidels tried to attack here... they met resistance so they went around (North)... then they attacked here, met more resistance so they went around again (North).......
They were basically saying that we were being beaten all the way to Baghdad...

Yeah, I was laughing my arse off. It reminded me of college, when my fraternity brothers would get in a bar fight. After we'd go back to the house and describe it to everyone.
"He did this, they that jerk did that, so I did this.
Did you see how they did this?
Did you see when I did that?"
It was amazing that they can talk about beating the snot out of us at every turn, all the while moving his arrows closer and closer to Bagdhad.

it's SPEECH not SPEACH...

I keep claiming to be alive too...
But no one believes me either.

Wolfgang.. thanks bro... that was bugging me.

OK, if he is dead, what the heck are Iraqi's fighting for?
Wouldn't that make situation much worse than if he were alive? That Iraqis are really against us rather than being forced to fight by Hussein?
That attampt to kill him before Iraq was in our hands - if it was real - was a very unwise move.
Of course they had no idea iraqi's woudl fight at all and expected to be greeted by population, so such a misgujement would have been understandable.
If he is really dead, our government better supress that information at all cost - otherwise we would lose all reason to invade and would have to stop fighting and "liberating" iraqis.
Maybe that is why we suddenly started bombing their TV and communication centers - to prevent the news of his demise from getting out?

Surely you must have noticed the increased use of the word "regime" lately miko. It started about 4 days into the war.

Neat-o paranoia there miko :D
Look, someone is still driving the bus as our guys keep having to fight, so it does not matter if Sadam is alive or dead. The regime is still working.

Right - as well as "fedayin" of which nobody heard before - well I did in context of Israel at the end of 1940s.
Somebody up there should have thought of using that term "regime" rather than Hussein way before the war to hedge all the bets. Someone better keep a list of such flops and send government an e-mail when we gear up for the next war...
Skuzzy: Look, someone is still driving the bus as our guys keep having to fight, so it does not matter if Sadam is alive or dead. The regime is still working.
True - which would make what our government was telling us the last couple of years a bunch of lies.
What if he really retired into exile as we demanded? Or were assasinated as Ari flaisher implored? We would still invade, right - because of the "regime"?
Didn't he keep all his minions in fear? Who does now?
He is much less of an embarrasment to us alive than dead at this point.
