Title: Help! Skuzzy?
Post by: Curval on March 25, 2003, 06:44:31 AM
The new NVidia Ti4200 has resulted in some serious problems when running AH.

There is significant flickering in the cockpit.  It appears as if tiles are appearing and disappearing on the solid surfaces of the cockpit and after a while in the air the cockpit becomes very blurred and the instruments hard to read.

I sent a film to support@hitechcreations.com.

I haven't reinstalled AH yet but I will if that could be the problem, this evening.

Let me know,

Curval

What drivers are you using?  30.82's seem the best.  I would shy away from the 4x.xx Detonators.

I have seen this with NVidia cards.  Try capping the frame rate in the video setup of AH.

I downloaded the latest drivers...40.9 I think.

I will try to find the ones you suggest tonight.

What should I cap it at?  45?

reinstall dx8.1, then the 30.82's, rename video.cfg in AH settings folder, it will redo the video settings.

hope it helps

not to worry curval, nvidia sets vsync as default, but if ya wanta check it manually, go to vid settings/advanced/gforce tab/additional properties/open gl tab; there you will find vsysnc box,, should be on by default.

Is it working better curval ?
Title: Help! Skuzzy?
Post by: Curval on March 26, 2003, 08:28:32 AM
Yes..and no.

My frame rate improved but I am getting flashing and degardation of my cockpit after a few minutes of flying.

After a while it looks as if there is either a "nano invasion" happening, or that my cockpit is rusting out...looks awful.

I wasn't able to follow the exact order of re-installing Directx, then the 30.82 drivers and then renaming the folder as I lost my internet connection last night and couldn't see the exact order Blackfalcon4 was suggesting I perform the attempted fix.  I did get the 30.82 drivers loaded and reinstalled DirectX...just not in the sequence suggested.

Dunno...I will try it again tonight.

Video card is 2 days old.

It is a GeForce 4 Ti4200 (64DDR)

The processor is overclocked, but not by much apparently.

Fan is there and working.

I have not had my case on it at all...I leave it off.

Dx version is 8.1

2 days old ?
Can be a faulty memory on the card IMO.
try without any overclock.

try artifact tester : http://ads.ad-flow.com/?DC=Crucial-125&DH=Y&TARGET=_blank

Degradation like that is usually a sign of overheating or power supply not being strong enough on the rail.

You can get rid of the blurry text by removing anisotropic filtering and setting anti-aliasing to 0.

I prefer to see a few jagged edges instead of reading the text through yesterdays beer bottle bottom.

I replaced the power supply about 2 months ago..had no problems like this with the old video card (GeForce 2 MMX) after I replced it.

All of the problems I am having are new since the installation of the GeForce 4 vid card.

If it is from Gainward u have a 50% chance its an hardware error.
U should bring it back where u bought it and get it replaced.

My network guy from the office did a check on my machine again last night.  All of my problems seem to be system related due to wife and children (and me probably) downloading junk onto my machine.

The hard drive was running at 30% efficiency and I had errors in everything from the autoexec.bat file and config.sys file to directx 8.1.

Apparently I have been lucky to have been able to play with the machine at it has been for months.

He says that the change in video card was probably the "last straw" and that the system can no longer manage without a complete re-build.

So..I am getting it re-built, and having XP installed instead of 98.

Wish me luck.
