Title: EVE Online
Post by: Octavius on March 26, 2003, 12:18:58 AM
Beta has lots-o-bugs and is stripped down with very few of the features planned for final release.

If you played Trade Wars 2002 back in the day (or at LePaul's BBS!), then you'll LOVE this game.  Think of putting all that text into pretty little pixels and eye candy.  I had about a day and a half to get acquainted with the game, and so far I can see I might fall in love :)  EVE Online's universe is big... I mean near limitless, flippin HUGE!  It certainly isn't anything like Earth and Beyond (poop game).

BUT... the damn thing is beautiful for a space MMOG.  I dunno if this violates the NDA, but what the hell.  This is my ship and my little avatar up in the left corner.  Kinda reminds me of General Veers at Hoth, eh?

and the last one... mining some roids

Eve needs a lot of work.

Nothing more fun that mining an asteroid for 30 minutes straight. Just watching the lasers hit the rock over and over and over and over. And over..

For 30 minutes!

No thanks.

I just wanna fight and can't figure out where to go.  It is kinda frustrating at times.  Its downright gorgeous and looks to have a learning curve.

I crash every 20 minutes tho, doh!  the computer not my avatar

Funnily enough I signed up for beta yestersday after crawling out of my cave and finding the game.  To me its looks like it has the potential to be the game everyone wanted Freelancer to be.

Looks really purrdy... what graphics card where those screenies taken with?

Radeon 9500 PRO on a 1.2ghz AMD T-bird.  It looks great at 1600 but the text is quite small.

EvilDingo, the thing you need to remember is that this is a beta :)  Beta's aren't around for your enjoyment or satisfaction (we didn't pay anything for this :)).  They're there for bug squashing and gameplay tweaking.  Certainly not all elements of the game are up and running at the moment.  I've heard that many of the really neat features are porked in some way.

All in all, the game really looks promising.  Trade Wars was THE game back in the day and EVE really reminds me of it.

I was picked in one of the first tester groups and have seen some really rough builds for Eve. It has come a long way but still has an equally long way to go before it hits "finished" in my book. I think the graphics are outstanding and they have done massive work on it but there are still areas that I have gone to that caused me to lock up and have to pull the plug to reboot the computer.

Hi Nacho,

My name there is Cyrano as well, so add me to your addressbook or try to catch me in #EX channel.

Is Eve even playable yet?  I was a beta tester and found it was full of major bugs right up to release.

guttboy, I think it is retail only.  You can't download it.

Make sure you don't go to http://www.eveonline.com  :)

I added Cyrano to my contact book, but i haven't seen you on yet.  I dunno how to get in contact any other way so I'll just keep waiting :).  I bought myself a rifter the other day and I'm mining with my probe still to outfit it.

EVE is only worth it if you are part of a well-organized Corporation or if you want to be a pirate.

There have already been corp vs corp wars and killing pirates is fun. I hope they develop the exploration part of the game or it won't keep me entertained for long.
