Heh, the funny thing is I come from a part of England that has a lot in common with Texas. :D Strong identity, considered a little backward by the supposed sophisticates of the South in the case of England, or the North in the case of the States. Yorkshire is sat on a huge coalfield, instead of oil though. Which is a shame. ;)
You know Sean Bean? I was born in the same city as him - Sheffield. He's lost a lot of his accent now, but there are hints of it still. Unfortunately, he supports Sheffield United, and I support Sheffield Wednesday. Those are soccer teams, by the way.
I think my Aces High squaddies have gotten used to it, although I tend to speak with a more non-descript accent when online.
I've always liked the Southern accent. I can identify with it I guess...
...maybe not understand it, but definitely identify with it. :D

you'd be a hit in England
when we moved from New Orleans to Northern England(Tynemouth, just outside of Newcaste) in 71, I was 12. I was the only Yank anywhere around, only one at school. The ppl/kids just thought I was the funniest sounding thing (Dowding still does :)) What freaked me out was to hear the black kids in school speak with an English accent. They didn't sound like that in N.O. :)

eye dew knot dral!

Yes, thanks to Hollywood, everyone from Texas is slow talking, simple minded, horse loving, beer drinkin, tobacco chewin nitwits.
Can't help but laugh about it. :D
-
don't start me in on Texas women...
no not those corn-fed ones....
That's the real reason I love to visit Texas :)
there are some BABE's there for sure!
and that southern lilt to their voice... drool
-
*winks* Yeah, but you can certainly use it to your advantage. I love being underestimated because people know I's from Texus.
-
Absolutely Sundiver.
Yes,..we do have some rather pretty ladies here abouts. :D

There's a Scottish guy that used to drink with us at the shed on Thursdays. He had a pretty thick accent. One afternoon:
Guy with his girlfriend: "Could you say something so my girlfriend can hear you talk?"
John: "**** you!"
Guy with his girlfriend:"See... isn't his accent cool."
Man... John was put off after that one. Right until I said "Don't get mad John, they've probably never heard an Irish accent before."

He seems to have his accent pretty strong in Sharpe though :) Cool series that was!

Hey Dowding, this is strictly a ? and not a troll I promise... what is your Aces High ID? Forgive my ignorance, please.

Steve my AH handle is also Dowding. :)
Hey Nexx - I read all the books before the Sharpe series was done, and it was actually quite a good interpretation. Although it suffered from lack of extras - the Waterloo episode in particular. Trying to use 200 extras and some creative camera work to show a battle that hundreds of thousands of combatants was a stretch too far.
Yeah his accent was strong in that one. Even though Sharpe in the book comes from the East End of London and should be a chirpy cock-en-ney. The Irish fella who played Harper was excellent though.
Gatso - Too right. I've only been to 2 games this season. They are generally awful and the players are over-paid nobs. It wouldn't be so bad if the Blades weren't doing so well! :D
-
The coolest accent by far that ive heard in AH is FOGOLD
He is from scotland and i really enjoy listening to him.
You guys should really hear him when he gets upset, cant understand a word but is sure is fun :D
FOGOLD, im really gonna miss you
:(
