Well, in coming to Boo's defense, he was always a lot of fun to fly with and very skilled. He' 'corted me on several buff runs and did a great job covering my ass. I will miss Booyall as a wingman. His frustrations are the same as mine, I too almost quit a few weeks ago because of the lame assed BS the HTC sent me always saying it was my PC that was causing the problem. And then they changed servers, promo ended, and all my problems went away. Some members of HTC have even avoided questions I've posed to them. Perhaps his response to lumpy-tESTES was a bit strong, but then his comment was rather uncalled for, to each their own I guess. As far as Wetrat goes, well look at it from this perspective, You love the game and then it gets more and more difficult to play do to gameplay issues and HTC doesn't help beyond tell you it's your fault 90% of time. You' d get a little ticked of when some one insults you.
-
sorry to see you go booyall, come back and try AH2. We all need a break sometime.
-
If someone tells you it's your fault that your connection sucks, it's not an insult. With this guy's attitude and communication skills, it's no wonder her never got it fixed. Booyall wins the "Inconherent, Misspelled Run-on Sentence of the Year Award".

Dingbat, your problems went away after I worked with Verizon to identify and correct a problem they were having. I had the same problem as you on my home system. And I did send you an email about Verizon's problem.
We have not changed servers nor settings on the server for quite some time.
Understanding a problem and being able to duplicate it are tantamount before working to correct a problem. The understanding of problems and being able to duplicate them require quite a bit if information.
Eliminating potential causes of problems will always be the first step. This requires a lot of data about the remote computer system involved. While going through the data collection process, if some things appear which could have a potential effect on the game, I will point it out.
It may not have a bearing on the problem, but working towards eliminating anything that could have a bearing on a problem is the always the first thing done when tracking down potential issues.
This does not mean we are pointing a finger at anyone's computer. It is just a process one goes through when trying to help resolve issues.
Is the game perfect? No. Are there problems? Yes. Do we work towards resolving them? Yes. Resolving problems takes a fair amount of effort, not only from HTC, but from the client as well.
Sometimes problems are quickly resolved, other times they are not.
We constantly look at better ways to do things. We are in the process of putting in another server at St. Louis. This server will be running Solaris. We did work with the FreeBSD people to get MySQL stable, but the changes made to the OS had side-effects we are not happy with.
Will this make it better? Hard to say. We hope it will, but until we see the loads and what effect they have, we will not know.
Simulating a load on a server very seldom approaches what really happens once a server is in real use.
We have also identified another problem which has an impact on the login of the client. We have taken preliminary steps to correct that as well. This same issue could be causing the text lag from time to time. We are still investigating this.
We are not perfect and do not pretend to be perfect. Most of the time, mutual effort is required to correct problems, regardless where they may be. If either party in that exchange closes thier mind, or becomes angry, then it usually will result in no progress being made and mutual frustration ocurring.

I understand booyal...to a certain extent.
we can't always record what we see....waste of time if problem isn't a BIG one.....
give ya an example.....
me an brother bluesman.....fighting a yak with high spit friend....we chase down yak....everything looked fine...no warpin.....then bluesman says check 6.....look back....spit still up there but coming down.....turn to look where yak is....nowhere.....asked bluesman.....nowhere.....turn .....opsss there's yak on my 6
was a magic trick I tell ya.......
invisible planes are back.....and that I don't like.
another ex....
drive tank to spawn point.....
1...2....3...4...5 tank spawn....bang bang bang...all die
no.6 appears.....shot...nothing... shot nothing...WTF...shot 5 times.....nothing....dweeb turns turret...finally see's me...1 shot kill....
here I am after driving for 15 min....some MTF won't die....oh ya...we where 3 guys shootin at em...all 3 went WTF...no 1 could hit em...but damn he could kill us.....
did i turn movie camera on....fug no...i was more interested in killin said MTF who was killing us....
some EXAMPLES are NEVER reproduced skuzzzzzzzz.......I think our friend booyal was prob.. thinking of those things....

In all fairness, I have to say that after last update numerous problems have arose for some of us (actualy a big portion). Here on the BBS and in e-mails we were told there was no problem or it was on our end. It became obvious after a few days this was not the case. Too many people were experiencing the same problems all of a sudden.
There is a beginning of a foul wind blowing as of late. It is very obvious in the game as well as here on the BBS. Those of us who have been involved in the flight sim community for a while can see it and also know that this same thing has contributed to "The Beginning Of The End" to some sims that we were involved in.
So, that said, I suggest this: instead of quitting or spreading the doom, let`s (the player) get more involved in sorting the problems out if allowed to.
From HTC I ask this. When it becomes obvious there is a problem, don`t deny the problem or try to shine us on. Post the problem that is being experienced and let us know what you need from us in way of feedback to work through it. Most of us are adults (some of us are ancient:D ). I think I speak for the majority when I say we will stretch a long way to save our game or participate in sorting out the problems if given a chance.
I know the staff is working hard at HTC, so, if you will be honest with us we just might be able to take some of the load off and in the process make the player more happy.

Spawn camper justice.. I love it.

SLO, we realize that not all things will be captured on film and that somethings are very difficult to reproduce. We also realize not all players will be running the film recorder at the time of a given incident.
Sometimes a film is our best resource for finding a problem though as we can get a lot of data from it and not have to reproduce it, as it is in the film.
For those difficult to reproduce ones, films make it possible for us to find a problem where one exists much faster.
Make no mistake about it. We are very interested in find and squashing bugs/problems. Sometimes the issue is glaring and we can reproduce it, other times we need a film.
Sometimes players come up with the exact procedure for reproducing a potential problem, which is a big help.
Everyone wants the game to be better, and debugging is the most time consuming aspect of supporting the game. Anytime we get some help from the community, it is greatly appreciated.

Jackal, to my knowledge we have never 'shined' on the community. We do our best to let people know when we have a problem.
There are times though, that the problem is a bit elusive, or takes some trial and error to uncover. During those times we may appear to be reaching for straws, but are in fact, gathering data. We cannot say much as we have no concrete conclusions.
Example; When MySQL and FreeBSD were not getting along very well, we had our hands full trying different approaches to the problem, until it was discovered the problem was an operating system error.
We let the community know about it, even before we knew what the problem was for sure.
On the other hand, there are computers that are misconfigured, or have software running that does not interact well with DirectX games or networking.
There is also the elusive Internet itself. Problems here are the most difficult to find and correct as it is not in our control or the players control. These happen more often than most people are aware of and manifest themselves in many ways.
I do not know of anyone at HTC who has ever lied to anyone. Sometimes our answer may not be correct, but it is always based on the best data we have at the time. We can make mistakes like anyone else, but really try to get those corrected as quickly as possible.
-
Would using two smaller servers and therefore two main arenas solve some of these "load" issues?
It seems more and more of us are looking back at the days of 300 players on at peak times, and wishing for a return to those days...

skuz-meister.....dude...never meant to say you didn't work hard....I know you do.....sowwy for the "aiming the finger"....never meant too.
I like to experience the game not the issues....why i don't bother filming or pointing out stuff...just wanna play the game.
Steve steve steve....my buddy steve....I am not a spawn camper bud...but when 10 gv's keep re-spawning faster then you can kill em in the air....you go to the ENEMY spawn point....If i remember it was 200 nits to 100 bishops....we was gettin squashed:D

:D I do believe your definition of "shining someone on" and mine are different.
As to the "I do not know of anyone at HTC who has ever lied to anyone", them are your words, certainly not mine.
What I was trying to do is come up with possible solutions that have and do exist and ways we as a community might become involved, not to argue or take a stand on who`s the holiest. I`d like to see AH around for a long, long, time.

Hmmm.....Being new I love having so many people to play with. Better than where I came from, with the same 45-90 people max. Not much fun playing in a ghost town. Sooooo much more to do and folks to do it with here.
Maybe I'll get bored with AH on down the road. I doubt it. Is there something wrong with the CT? Want a smaller fight or less people on the server why not go there?

Semantics,..I take 'shine on' to mean leadling people around with rose colored glasses.
I didn't mean for the entire post to be directed at you,..but that was my fault. Same for you SLO.
The community has a couple of very good ways to get problems to use. The Bug Reports forum is a good way. Email/Phone calls, all work too.
Due to the complexity of the game, films are sometimes the only way a bug/issue can be found. Of course, the community is in a much better position for those as we cannot be online 24/7.
Skurj,..that would open up so many more problems, but I am glad folks are thinking about it.

No arguement there, however, you never told me that you were working with them. You sure as heck didn't tell me that you resolved the problem. You did tell me you had a problem with them too. It just majically happened that everything started working. When I have a problem with a user here at the office, I keep them informed 100% of the time, even if the party responsible for fixing the problem is in another group. When the communication breaks down people get irritated. This is why I started getting frustrated.

No argument there, however improvements can be made, in areas that are weak. Such as communication, while albeit not bad, but could be better.

Coming on the BBS shouting about the HTC crowd being "morons" is not really conducive to a good atmosphere and won't help anyone to resolve their problems, will it? HTC is a small company and they work tirelessly to give us a game we can all enjoy.... sometimes there may be problems, which may be at their end, or may be at the users' ends - but wherever these problems lie, they do their best to find out and solve them. Very often, the fault lies with the nature of the internet, which is why some people are affected and not others; on other occasions it will be hardware at either end. Rather than posting here in this way, booyall would have been much better off maybe getting on the phone to HTC to try and resolve things, or at least keeping things civil by posting in either the Internet Connections or Tech Help forums asking for help. Going off like this helps no-one and is not constructive, as well as being embarrassing to other members of the Hell Gods.

Flo, Booyall's tact was wrong. And in two of my post I berated some people. Poor show on my part, sure. However, the thread did outline a very important point. Communication... There is some but not in all the right places.

We all know that at times we all do things that we regret doing when we are pissed off. Some people do it in diff ways.. 1 Thing we all need to remember this is a game. If you not having fun take a break a few day weeks ect.. But dont go off the wall and quit and post things you going to regret one day...We are all in this game to have fun meet friends and have a good time doing what we like to do Fly and Kill..:D

Well Boo and ding as CO of ~~The Unforgiven~~ brother squad of Hell gods I'm sorry to see 1. booyall resign from game and 2.dingbats discontent for HTC. I really like you both, I feel your frustraistions have taken over your emotions, because I know you both are great guys. it's just a game and a break is sometimes in order. I have played a few online sims (AirWarrior, WWIIOnline, AH) if you really want to get pissed go play WWIIonline there's ignorance at its best (I know thats my own feelings). I'm impressed with HTC, they work hard and they update frequently trying to improve the game play. Are they perfect NO but who is? Do they work through issues? yes (That I have witnessed) all priorities are differant. We need to remember there is only so much they can handle. I think for the price in exchange for the hours of entertainment I receive IT'S A GREAT DEAL! Yes sometimes I'm frustraited but guess what I just respawn and do it all over again. We all need to remember there is a real war going on. A real reason to get pissed is because a Iraq soldier warps in and out in front of them and then kills them!NOW THERE'S A REAL REASON TO BE PISSED. Guys it's just a game it's what you make of it. Boo I hope you reconsider and come back because I really enjoy flying with you :) And Dingbat i hope all your issues get fixed soon we need you to bomb the nits. I hope this post isn't taken out of context I am half drunk and tired. See ya all in the air <<

My discontent is gone now, but it was when I was having issues, that a lot of people were having, I was just getting irritated. Your comments are the IRAQis are true. I have a lot of displaced frustration right now, knowing that my wife mife be heading into combat soon... So I can be rather short at times, this is probably one of those times.

I was having bad lag until about a week ago. Been playing that way for over a year on dial-up modem, and was thinking I couldn't take it much longer...until I read Skuzzy mention disabling virus scan applications while playing.
Wellll, I started doing that, and haven't had any lag problems at all. Sometimes there is a simple solution.
