Since using the Trinity terrain, many of these other terrains seem pretty useless.
Trinity has pretty much everything one could want IMHO. Trinity offers every thing present in the other terrains , yet the other terrains don't offer 1/2 of what Trinity has. So why still use them?
For instance, no other terrain has the "tank playground" for those who just wana log on and unwind with some instant tank action.
just my 2 dinars

maybe instant tank action but allmost no ac action.. I don't drive tanks so I hate infinity..

If you can`t find action on Trinity , you need to turn your chair around 180 degrees, face the puter, and get on with it. Trinity is nonstop action. :D
-
Love Trinity. You can almost always fing good fights there, and avoid the senseless gang-bangs.
-
guess everyone has a different idea of what "action" is. flying a sector and ahalf is not "action" to me.
lazs
-
True ... but then this is not an "action game". It's a simulator.
-
Ok sclotz... I'll bite... what are we "simulating"? If we are simulating the boredom of WWII air combat then we are doing a poor job since we should go weeks or entire years never seeing the enemy... The greatest amongst us should have maybe 300 kills for lifetime records...
If we are simulating WWII combat then we are doing a piss poor job since we are not fighting historical matchups and.... I have never seen historical formations or tactics in this or any other arena. soooo....
We are most likely simulating WWII aircraft, their flight models, gunnery and, the damage that said gunnery causes. If this is what we are 'simulating" then let's cut the crap and get to the good parts.

While I may have detail disagreements with Lazs, he is 100% spot-on as to what the MA should be.
The upcomming "mission theatre" should do a better job of appealing to those who want a more "realistic" environment.

Trinity is boring. I can deal with having one enormous, boring map at a time (like pizza in the pre-infinity days). But two of these monstrosities? God no.
I plan to cancel my account at the end of this month because of this infinity map.
-
the upcoming arena should be interesting... HT tends to have his finger on the pulse... I can't figure out how it will work but I bet he can.
I do know this tho... if he let's the people on this board who cry for "realism" and "historical" have any say in it then it will be one lonely arena with a whole lot of blame and finger pointing.

Luv trinity +)
CLoser fields would be nice, but.. if I had to choose one map to run full time in the MA.. it would be trinity
With pizza at the opposite end of the scale

trinity is ok...the way based are captured and recaptured is pretty cool. tall mountains are OK IMO as well...what's the use of mountains if they're so easy to cross?as for eternal flying between fields, just set autoclimb and have a coffee :)
-
Well lazs2, we are actually simulating a grand strategy game, with airfields and strat targets, not a furball paradise where you pres alt-s and skip to the fighting part. If all you want to do is fight (nothing wrong with that btw.) then the MA is not for you in its current state. I must concur with J_A_B, when AH2 comes along I will prolly only fly in the TOD. Hopefully you guys will get a MA more to your liking then, but until that time the MA must cater to both groups of players.
(Btw. its Scholz not Sclotz ;))
-
we are "simulating" a game? Which "grand strategy game" are we 'simulating' in your opinion schlotz?
If there were closer fields how would that keep you from flying any way you like?

We are simulating a war of sorts are we not?
Closer AF's mean bigger fights (or gang-bangs) at lower alt's. I like Trinity because I can take of and climb and search for a good fight (less than 10 planes) and not get ganged so much. Usually takes 15-20 minutes from I roll, just the way I like it. On the smaller maps it is very hard to find a fight that I like.
Btw. you still got the name wrong, but you're getting close. I know it's hard. ;)
-
well.... you claim to like flying for 15 minutes doing nothing... I don't doubt you ... I find it bizzare to say the least but... hey... maybe you are a smoker and have to get outside to smoke or something? Maybe the drone of computergenerated engine noise is allmost at your threshhold of excitement and anything more would be an overdose..... regardless.....
If the fields were closer together you could still do all the nothing you wanted. I guarentee that you would still be able to take off several sectors away from any chance of air combat. I am not limiting your opportunities one bit byu asking for closer fields while you are advocating limiting mine for whatever reason.
If we are "simulating" a war then we are simulating one that is unlike any that has ever happened or is likely to ever happen so...... neither your or my way is more or less realistic than the other right?

Heh you seem to have the need to be abusive. Oh well.

Trinity was a lot of fun the first time around. Good fights, people mixing it up.
The last few times through, fewer people mix it up, and finding a good knock down drag out has become an exersise in doing what GSholtz enjoys, a 15 or 20 minute climb out/cruise too...
Nothin wrong with that if it's what you enjoy. But if that's a requirement of the map, which over the last run throughs appears to be, it leaves people of a different persuasion doin somthin else with there time.
Unless of course you enjoy playing peek'a boo, gang bangin or shootin those bastages that don't have the sense to not take off with 35 guys cappin a field..after a 15 minute "ingress"
Depending on when I get home I've got anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to post up with some friends and have some fun and take some names..
I don't have the time to recreate a Robert Taylor painting in that time frame.
I don't care to anyway, even if I had the time..
Nor do I care to play and elaborate hybrid game of chess..
I enjoy the fight.
The idea of flying for 15 or 20 minutes round trip to the fight is absurd.
I don't have the time, I'm not trying to recreate squat here fellas. This is the Main for cripes sake. Somewhere, somehow that has become confused..
Trinity in it's current configuration does not offer what the smaller maps do. Density.
That could be addressed with field location giving certain areas "local density" but it hasn't been. So...
I'm fresh out of paint brushes.
This quote SAYS IT ALL !!
For instance, no other terrain has the "tank playground" for those who just wana log on and unwind with some instant tank action
At what point, did it become "unwind with some instant tank action" instead of plane action ????????????
Somebody please explain to me why "instant" tank action is provided in this map while I'm forced to fiddle with fuggin paint brushes painting a wonderful historic picture of times past ???
Wha ???
I....don't......play.....with.....tanks.
I'm here to fly.
My contention is that the people that enjoy the "fight", when trinity is up are all in the crater playing fuggin tanks..
Which make no sense to me, but that's a whole nuther bag of cat body parts..
-
Put me down with Laz, JAB, wetrat and nopoop.
I come here looking for fights, not to add climb/cruise time to the virtual logbook.
Closer fields don't hurt the guys that want to take off and climb for 10 minutes away from any action.
But a wide spread between fields condemns everyone else to long climb/cruise segments PARTICULARLY if one likes the slower early war stuff.
So where's the loss? Closer fields don't hurt the climbers and the help the others.
Win/win.
-
Well I really sympathize with those who have very limited time online, and feel they are wasting it on climb/cruises. That must suck.
I haven't analyzed the problem, I just find it really hard to find good fights now on the smaller maps. Pizza too for some reason, but Trinity is good. I don't want to fight you guys, if it is possible to design a "perfect" map, I'm all for it. I prefer smaller even fights like 5 vs. 5 mainly because I fly an early war plane, and in the big furballs it is very hard to survive in one. And with all the new players it is becoming exceedingly difficult to find small fights on the smaller maps.
Go ahead and campaign for a new map, I certainly won't stand in your way, but if you see a lone 109F4 at 20k far out to sea cruising to the other side on Trinity looking for a fight ... that would be me. :)
-
I doubt that I will ever see anyone at 20k unless they make an 18K airfield.

The idea of flying for 15 or 20 minutes round trip to the fight is absurd.
I have been playing alot of WW2OL lately, so 20 minutes round trip looks good to me. Try hour+ flight times or if your side is having a bad day, with attrition you don't get to fly at all.

I knew there would be yet another reason I'm totally disinterested in WW2OL. And it just showed up.
Thanks! ;)

Map this morning is Trinity. Rooks in the south, Knights to the East, Bishops to the west. Knights have the most bases but Bishops have the most players, or at least that's the way things stood an hour ago.

wastrying to get soem of my buds from BF1942 to start playing AH... they liked what they saw until I showed them Trinity and Pizza, when they noticed that Trinity takes about 3 weeks to reset, they decided they'd look around at other WW2 Flight Sims

I find myself empathising with most people in here. I am on the middle ground. I don't have to have "instant action", 2K off the deck. Those long climbs provide the opportunity to discuss with squadmates the plan for the current sortie, for example. But I can see that some people would not want that. But at the other end of the spectrum, we have scenarios. I've been involved with WW2 sims for 5 years now, and have flown only about 3 scenarios. And the reason? I find them absolutely mindnumbingly fücking boring - to paraphrase a certain retired BA/BCal DC10 captain, talking about the job he left. I guess Mr. Toad gets all the cruise climb he wants in real life.
Because of the chasm that exists between "short hop climbs to 2K, instant action, bag a few kills and auger" sorties, and the "super realistic spend 1½ hours driving to a target to drop 2 bombs and then read a boring AAR about it the next day" scenarios, I tend to seek out a greater degree of realism, but within the MA. Not for me the Lala7 wonderplane, or the inertia defying N1K. I prefer to fly midwar planes and imagine how they might have been deployed in WW2 based on what accounts I have read.
Last night, I was with about 10 guys defending a Bish CV. Only one plane for that job - the F4U-1C. Got 17 kills in three sorties - many of those being low B17/LANC/ju88, and other suicide dweebs. Miraculously, I landed all three sorties. But that is NOT the kind of "action" I want! Most of the cons inbound were suiciders, upping, re-upping over and over again. It just comes down to a numbers game - as boring as a 2 hour scenario. Finally, five P47s came in to bomb the CV. Only one got eggs on target. Three got acked and augered, one was shot by one of my guys, and one escaped with a smoking engine. WTF! The stupidest, idiotic sortie I ever did see. I had O'Club business to attend to, so logged off.
People are condemnatory of Pizza/Trinity, but I think they must have short attention spans. I have no trouble finding what I want. Excuse the crowing, but I think it's important to provide evidence with one's assertions. Only 3 or 4 of these were vulches - of guys who tried to re-up. The rest were team efforts, but one was an excellent 1v1 with a P51.

I will be quick to add that I am no hotshot. I just know my own limitations (what limitations? lol) and those of the plane.
Mr. Toad said Closer fields don't hurt the climbers and the help the others.
The problem with close fields is that they provide a haven for LA7 opportunist vulchers. Cripes, there's enough material on this board about it. And a plane like a P47 is lumbering at low alt. You have to get it to 12K amsl to get the best out of it. What chance do I have to do that, if there are LA7s taking off only 5 minutes away? Limited, and that's why I prefer Pizza and Trinity.
I can see that there is some mileage in Lazs's idea to have an arena split into late and early war, with a mountain range separating the two areas. But if we're going to have an impermeable wall between the two groups, we might as well have two MA. And if the wall is not impermeable, I guarantee that we'd have late war planes creeping round the corner to prey on the early war planes. They tried a similar scheme in WB about two years ago (Generations) and that's exactly what happened.

soooo... these people like infinity because they would rather chat and daydream than... fight? I guess that makes sense... I guess it really does take all kinds.
lazs

Lazs :)
No, I just chat and daydream cos I'm nice. ;) Hehe, thought you might seize on that. That's why I included the first pic. To show that chatting/daydreaming is not all I do. I kill knits in my spare time. :D
-
Ok... chat, daydream AND practice touch and goes.

Beats me what the whining is all about, I can up from 4 different fields right now and have guns on an enemy plane in 45 seconds, whats this about needing 25 minutes to find a fight?

why would they be interested in flight sims? seems more like they'd be interested in "Risk Online."
