No more for me. It is still better than what I would get if I posted on Iraqi boards in 1991, I guess.
I have my opinion, but time will tell.
Best of luck to ordinary people.

Picking up your ball and going home eh?
Oh.. wait... you don't want to go home..... there are still US troops there keeping the peace aren't there?
That's gotta sting.
What an irritant seeing that flag on their shoulders, standing between the slaughterers and slaughterees.

Blitz, perhaps you should focus your efforts on surviving in the failing German economy instead of protesting a war your country is sitting out of.
-
Let's see. Saddam remains unimpressed by ~250K coalition troops moving towards him to force him to "piss off, leave ya people alone!"
I'm sure this unsuspected attack on Blitz' poster will just blindside him and make him give up. Clever, Blitz. No way he can withstand an assault like that. You da man.
BBC:
The Basra citizens were attacked as they tried to cross a bridge on the western outskirts of the city...
British forces spokesman Group Captain Al Lockwood said: "Paramilitary forces loyal to the regime followed them and commenced firing upon them...
It was suggested the civilians may have been trying to get to food and water aid at points outside Basra - as they had done on previous days....
Mr Lockwood said militia had been trying to force ordinary residents to fight with them and that those seen leaving may have been attempting to flee....
Blitz, tell me...... in what other conflict has the military deliberately fired on it's own citizens that were simply fleeing a battle area? What regimes support that kind of action?
As I've said before, it seems that in our "modern" world many folks have lost the ability to distinguish the difference between good and evil. I belive, in the long run THIS is what will eventually destroy our world civilization.
The priorities listed above support that conjecture IMO.

1. I work , that's all i can do for my countries economy.
2. Germany doesn't "sit it out". 70% of our people are against this "police action" of the United States. We hate this war and we distrust your government. This time the protest isn't mostly from left side like in evil Vietnam times , it touches everyone from the professor, over the simple worker to the housewife.I have never seen such a big and persistant defence against a political crime like this time.
Our children probably will grow up with a picture of America that shows it very questionable in regards of morality and political honesty.
I remember Vietnam times when my picture of a big nice nation which freed us from the nazies got some deep scratches.
It will be most likely the same now.

America was threatened by Iraq in no way, it was just plain ridiculous, it's an "Angriffskrieg"

Replace Nazies with a genocidal dictator and that will be the same statement from Iraqi civilians in a few months.

Try this on for size: The UN ignoring the plight of the Iraqi people and giving a genocidial dictator more time, THAT WAS the problem.

Where in the hell did you get that idea? If you think that that's what the U.S. is up to, then you have your arse so far up your head you'll never see daylight. That's what's wrong with a lot of countries. They think the U.S. is on a "colonialism" trip.

Last time i tell that on this board!
I was born next to Netherland in the very north of Germany.
West, East? Dumb question! I was lucky enough to be born in the west.
I was never in a communist party, i hated the east germany communists. Every time i visited East part of Germany( living in Berlin for 20 years now) i hated them more.
We got them without a shoot being fired, that's the difference.

Blitz, your view is the problem in my view. You can excuse anything and sit on your hands while people are slaughtered. I can't remember your view on Kosovo if you ever posted them, but I'm willing to wager you opposed that too. No UN sanction, remember? Total violation of the NATO charter too when Clinton did intervene.
Sometimes, you have to make a stand. You can't. You can only equivocate.

On 9-11 our world got alot smaller for Americans...get used to it.
A side note to all that is and has taken place on the worlds stage which I believe to be a good thing, is that now America knows who our allies truly are.
-
Saburo, my view of that has been liberally sprinkled through this forum.
In short, I'd say it was because the WW2 Generation, having seen their father's generation killed and gassed in a European war, having themselves had to fight a European war decided that THEIR sons were not going to have to do that again. I believe that's why the US totally shed it's isolationist role after WW2.
Feel free to differ.

What type of construction do you do? Home, commercial?
I have helped buld a home or 2 in my lifetime.
Where I grew up, in south Texas, hurricanes we pretty normal. After a hurricane came through most homes would lose the roofs. So we would have roof parties and just start on the corner of one street and keep putting up shingles until everyone's house was 'out of the weather' again.
It's funny how the adversity of the hurricane, folks would band together.
Sounds like you are doing a good thing with that job .

You anti-war people squeak about wanting to save the iraqi people from war. well what about the people he slaughters? is it fair to leave people under the rule of someone who is totally self centered and cares about his people only in what they can do for him, or how he can use them to save his own ass.

As I've said before, it seems that in our "modern" world many folks have lost the ability to distinguish the difference between good and evil.
The question is: even if we had that ability in the first place, since when has it mattered? History is a charnel house of bloody carnage and misery, inflicted by mankind on mankind.
With the passing of every century, the encumbant generation regards the previous as uncivilised. That is a consistent pattern, with only a few blips. I don't expect it to change anytime soon. One day, the planet's pupulation will reach critical mass and it will be the end, but I think that is still a good distance off. I'll be pushing up daisies long before sun-up on that day...
... I hope. ;)

Gscholz,. get a clue. buy a clue.. if you cannot afford a clue, I will have one appointed for you. The only person who has created any kind of shortage of food/medicine for the Iraqi people is Saddam... not any imagined embargo. Saddam had the ability to buy food and medicine for his people. He chose instead to build palaces and hoarde the money for himself. If you blame one the loss of one life in Iraq on anyone but Saddam, you are a fool. Retract your statement, it's making you look like an uninformed love muffin.

Well, Dowding, I think we had a good running start at it post-WW2 for sure.
Even now, you, if forced to choose, based on morality, right now to enlist in support of either Iraq or the Coalition would pick?
If it came down to fighting to keep Saddam in power or joining the battle to remove him, what would you do?
In your heart, you know.

They wouldn't accept me even if I did enlist - I'm epileptic and they don't like that, the bastards. ;)
Although straight after uni I did apply for RAF officer training. It's something I've always wanted to do, but unfortunately the short-circuit in my brain will always let me down. No epileptics in any branch of the military. Not even the Territorial Army (like the US National Guard/Reservists).
But that's beside the point. My decision would be made in a flash, of course. Are you saying that in the future, such a choice wouldn't be as clear cut?
-
No, I'm saying the choice is clear cut right now.
Well, for most people. ;)
-
No I don't see that. And neither do you, unless you are assinine enough to believe propaganda films are depicting the full truth of what the populous feels. In any event, neither you nor I will know their true sentiments until Saddam is gone. To presume otherwise is.. well assinine.

Think future generations will be full of hate? Unlike their parents, they wouldn't have grown up underneath a tyrannical genocidal dictator... no longer will they be told to hate.
They can't realize what is being brought to them, but leaving Saddam and his regime in power- they will NEVER realize.

I know what you mean about the furniture. I built all the furniture for my son's room, and every now and then my wife would tell me, "Honey, it does not have to be perfect." That would always get a glare from me.
14 kids! WOW! How big a house you have? What is the age range of that group?
So your family is still close enough to visit often? My wife's family is close by, so we join up for lunch/brunch every Sunday with her brother's family.

"It didn't surprise me that she hated the Israelis, however what surprised me is that she
hated the USA even more for supporting Israel."
That's not a surprise at all to me. From their point of view, the only reason the Israelis are still alive is because of the US. We played a big part in getting them their home in 48.
Each time the Arabs have gone to war with them, the US has backed Israel with supplies and equipment which helped to break the back of each Arab attack.
It will always comes back down to that equation. As long as we support Israel, we will be crap in the eyes of the middle east.
-
I see what you mean, I guess for the most part most of the Iraqis that don't hate the US are pretty much already here (or atleast not in Iraq).
As the ball has already been set in motion, we'll have to see how this all pans out.

I remember a bed i build for myself before i was a carpenter 25 years ago. Was more like a shermantank than a furniture, he,he. Shame on me :D
I love carpentery :) It's always very rewarding building things.
I do this for 23years now and i have never regret it.
14 kids! WOW! How big a house you have? What is the age range of that group?[/B]
Was a bit missunderstanding, sorry.
I have no real kids myself but workin with my group
9 hours a day teaching, discussing, fighting, healing their little wounds makes me feel sometimes like i was their father.
The group has 14 members, 13 boys, 1 girl, they all between 17 and 21years.
Some have bad parents, some failed miserably in school, some have pchyological problems and most of them are well known to the police. They're all loutmouths, no real selfestem, workin is a good therapy for them. Sometimes they really hate me, normally after somebody is late and i made him a non smoker for the day :D
So your family is still close enough to visit often? My wife's family is close by, so we join up for lunch/brunch every Sunday with her brother's family.[/B]
It's 500 kilometers to see them :( Normaly its 2times a year.

I live in Berlin for about 20 years now, 10 min from the "Brandenburger Tor". It's nice and busy here. Ya should come here some day again, Berlin has totally changed after we got the east back.
When did your family went to Amerika? And why? Where did they settle down?
Economy is down on the floor here in Germany :(
There are several reasons for it but the most important is that we have to pay 100drets and 100drets of million D-Mark to bult up the east part of Germany again.
All their industry was to old to stand a chance against ours.
Many, many have lost their job in former east Germany.
We'll see hard times in Germany in the comin 10 years , i guess.

I love carpentery :) It's always very rewarding building things.
I do this for 23years now and i have never regret it.
You sound like me. I overbuild everything. I agree, woodworking is really very relaxing for me. I dowel, dado, and glue everything together. Wife just shakes head, "It wouldn't hurt to use a nail or two".
But she is patient and realizes I take a great deal in pride building things.
WTG blitz! I have had the oppertunity to work with kids like those. When I was running my ISP business, I would have a couple of kids working there, learning how the stuff worked. I still keep tabs on them today. Most of them are working at large ISP's or for big companies as network admins.
One of the them went back to college and got his degree in Electronics Engineering. Another got a degree in Physics.
I like to think I made a difference and that is something, as you know, no one can take away from you.
It's 500 kilometers to see them :( Normaly its 2times a year.
Sorry to hear that, but at least you get to see them and spend time with them, even if it is not very often.
I live in Berlin for about 20 years now, 10 min from the "Brandenburger Tor". It's nice and busy here. Ya should come here some day again, Berlin has totally changed after we got the east back.
I might take you up on that one day. I have told my wife we should visit Germany. She has never been there, but would like to go.
When did your family went to Amerika? And why? Where did they settle down?
My Great Grandmother and her daughter were German Jews. They were being hidden by another German family, when one day the home they lived in was blown up in a bombing raid. They survived, but the family hiding them died.
They took the papers from the family and escaped to the U.S. Even in the U.S., they were so terrified that Germany would win the war they kept the family's name (Hempel) and settled in the Waco area of Texas.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the country will be stronger than ever once they get past all that. The job market here is not too great either. When I closed my company, with all my expertise, I was out of work for several months.
Fortunately, for me, I have a wonderful wife and a great family. Goes a long ways when things get tough.
Hopefully your government leaders will do the right things to get Germany back on track.

Thx , same to you, we do get something back you can't buy, don't we? :)
One of my two folks who had graduation in carpentery on friday was a turkish guy named 'Ersin'.
He's big, weight is about 110kilogramm and he tells the best jokes ever.
Six month ago he freaked out in my office: " IS YOUR DIGG LONGER THAN MINE" he screamed and hit with his foot in a cupboard so the door went away.
Remind him on yesterday about his 'Event'
"Damn, i had to say something, at least ", he replied and we both had a good laugh. :)
