Khan? Caesar? Napolean?
I think it was Alexander the great.

Next would be Henry 5th.
Battle of Agincourt, 7000 troops, 5000 being mostly longbowmen and they defeated a french army of over 30000 with only a few hundred dead.

Frederic the Great, kept his relatively small country alive and fighting when faced with gangs of bigger enemies.

Hmmm... Aragorn... Theoden... the battle of Helm's Deep... :D

Depends what the criteria are. I'd say Alexander the Great for sheer territorial accomplishment through conquest. He was a genius.
In more recent times, I'd say Napoleon.

Without a doubt:

going by eras ancient id say Alexander, then Napoleon, then Manstein, then Giap. Henry V was a good general and a superior leader of men id say. can you imagine the look on Alexander face if he ever saw an armored unit in combat?
