Title: Anyone else notice...
Post by: AKDejaVu on March 30, 2001, 01:01:00 AM
It seems like everyone is hitting with massive numbers these days.  Every raid seems to have more than half the country participating.

I'd see a 30 pilot attack on a field down south, as a 30 pilot attack was incoming up north.  Both teams decimated the base then played keystone cops trying to capture it.

It just seems that there is more of the mob mentallity going on here these days.  Went into a 2:10 fight today.  The first time I've ever done that.  My squadie drug 6 one direction, I took 4 the other.  I made it to ack, he did not.  But this is becoming more typical these days.

Yep, quite a bit. Just like RL, it is dangerous being lonewolf...

Heh it's not missions.

yesterday after the rest, the incompentent bish tried, by force of number, to take 6 for several hours without succeeding and despite having numerial superiority at the field.

But that's to be expected from the Bishrooks; they're almost as incompetent as the rooks or knights.

just the way this map is, I figure; very short front lines.

It is the short front that causes attacks to look larger and more coordinated than they actually are.

Even with so many attacking the same place you still can't get cooperation enough to kill all the AA and Hangers in a small time window.

Also, I have noticed that the number balance can change rapidly. I went up in my P-51 towards an enemy field that appeard to have a small Bish number advantage. By the time I got there, it was a full red sector bar and I was the only freindly for miles  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Mebbe it's just me, but it seems that there are fewer missions on this tour than the last. Just two large fronts on either side of the HQ. Anyone else notice this?

Yep... that's what's happening.  Now see if you can make the leap and figure out why.

Lazs,

Try to use your other brain cell (now that is a leap), and realise there is another virtual world apart from your mindless furball, furball, furball...

Cheers,

Pepe.

I see the same thing. I am a lone-wolfer by necessity and have found that it is more challenging to work the furballs. There are clouds of fighters attacking bases now, and since the base attack is sure to include some La7's and Yaks one must be careful how one chooses to engage.

Some people choose to die right over the base at sea level, which is not wise- now all the fighters are dead and the enemy is perfectly positioned to vultch. I try to work the fighters away from the base and allow the friendlies to climb a bit. At least if I die then I have enough time to get airborne and gain a little alt before the guy reaches the base.

I also see five guys diving down to kill one enemy fighter- then gaze upward as the Lanc passes D4 overhead and lazily kills the hangars. Sorry to anyone that I haven't dove to engage, but if I see more high cons coming they are definitely more of a threat than the couple of guys that are low. To me, getting the bomber is the #1 priority anyway- if those hangars drop, the fight is pretty much over. Even if this means the friendly below gets killed I will stay high and kill the bomber. There won't be any respawn without the hangar, and the base is lost. I would expect the same to happen to me if the situation was reversed.

I'm not just seeing this on base attacks.  I'm seeing this simply in general.  Sometimes, the cloud refuses to leave the sanctity of their own base.  But there is always a cloud.

I see what you mean, AK. I think the planes are so lethal now that death is pretty much instant if you are caught alone against numbers. For this reason people generally don't stray off alone as much as they once did. I know I have to approach a/c differently than I once did. Used to be if I was off and alone I would think nothing of taking on a few at a time alone, so long as I had a little alt. Now I have to really think about what I am facing before diving in, and I have to plan my egress much more carefully.

I have seen you in your lone Yak and have engaged you on occasion when we were 1 vs. 1. These engagements often amount to a draw, usually with the low one of us retiring when advantage is totally lost. The fights were always fairly fought and I always appreciated them. Fights like those are much harder to find at the moment, I would agree.

deja is correct.   It is no ones imagination and it is not good for any "style" of fighting that I am aware of.  seems everyone loses.   I believe things could be improved for everyone.

pepe... I will be glad to here your thoughts on this.  Are you saying that it isn't happening or that what is happening is the way you like it?  or... are you saying that you have nothing to add but thought you would throw in an inane insult anyway?

deja here's the kicker... I ain't the brightest player but I find that lately I am doing exactly what you have often accused me of!   when I see a huge red cloud on the dar I don't go there.  If I take off and see nothing but some high cons vultching the field i have no desire to leave the safety of the ack.   Many, mostly, I have the choice of being gangbanged or doing the gangbanging.  I pick doing.   I try to steal the one con that I've seen in the last half hour that is reachable even if there are 10 friendlies all after it for exactly the same reason.

It may be safe but it's not much fun anymore and I don't see any options in the current arena.
